Ranger... I have no idea about how to play Rangers. I do know that there are a few archtypes, like normal damage ranger, critical ranger, and poison ranger; or something along those lines. And personally, I don't think Acidic Blight is actually useful for rangers, since it is a short ranged skill; and Rangers usually have enough AGI - and therefore, Attack Rating to hit anyway.

RANGERS
----------

Let me start from the very basics: Rangers, in general, should focus on two stats, those being END (HP, of course) and AGI (ATK rating, ranged DMG and chance to critically strike). Basically, you can go for the balanced build, with equal amounts of AGI and END, pure AGI build, or pure END build. Ranger gear gives you +X boosts to three stats; AGI, END and INT. Combine gear however you like, you've decent END ranger EQP, so no need to experiment with encumbering fighter armor. Ranger gear, by bonuses, goes into three types; pure END (greyhound, bonobo) gear, pure AGI(hawk, jackalope) gear, AGI-END(manatee) split gear, AGI-INT(blowfish) split gear, END-INT(termite) split gear, and AGI-END-INT three split gear (spammer). Well, you read the description when creating you char next to rangers; likes to pick them off from a distance. I think you understand the basics of ranger play-style...there's also some kiting involved.

RANGER TYPES
--------------

Pure AGI, critical ranger - be sure to get all +AGI gear, put all points into AGI as well and make sure your gear has at least SOME +crit hit bonuses! You may want to kite here, due to your low HP, and try using either Chill Bill or Monster Bait to keep them away from you. You may also want to try out knockdowns, such as Shadow Word:Smackdown! or Righteous Stomp. Also use the "must" skills like Trigger Finger Frenzy, Poison Shot, Noxious Shot, Spirit of The Hare (you guessed it, kiting) and either of the "summons". Your EQP should also provide you with +X% to movement speed, try NOT to use heavy fighter armor for END, since the goal here is to kill them before they reach you. The weapon "Plate Piercer" is a must have for all crit rangers.


Well-balanced ranger - this is pretty simple, and very easy to play...you basically get all AGI-END gear and balance your stats, that is, put half of your points into AGI and half into END. Get all normal ranger poison based skills, perhaps a few knockdowns and just stand-shoot. You'll have enough HP to outlast them when they get to you, and enough AGI to deal decent DMG. Also, since they'll most likely mob on you, use Gaseous Blast and Acidic Blight (that's right, it's underestimated a lot, but works great for scoring more safe/crit hits). Skip the summons, just be a pure ranger, and if you feel your poison skills lack the power, don't go off putting points into INT, just get Toxic Talent.


Poison Ranger - this one's pretty fun...here you just dump all your points into AGI and INT (equally, or in favor of AGI, your choice) and get all "Blowfish" labeled items (AGI-INT gear), and, of course, +X poison DMG bonus gear. Get all poison based skills, skip Toxic Talent, use summons (whichever), you might want to kite because of your low HP, and if you feel more tankish, you can also clear out the fodder with Gaseous Blast. For the weapon, I strongly recommend getting Vis'Kar's Bilespitter, it has a very good bonus both to INT and poison DMG.



More ranger types include ranger-mage hybrids, but that's for another discussion...hope you choose the right build for yourself

Regarding Ranger-Mage Hybrids: so far, every so-called Ranger-Mage hybrid build I have come across are merely glorified Poison Ranger Builds. Is that the most a Ranger-Mage can be: a Poison Ranger, or are there builds that are truly a hybrid between Rangers and Mages?

For quiet awhile SirOldBottom was a Dark Assassin If I remember. Had a nice mix of shadow damage using Shadow Lightening and Smackdown. I decided to change him over to an ice mage after time though.

I get everything you just said. But what does str to to a ranger? I looked at the builds for rangers and most of them add str to their base.

STR does nothing for rangers. Were you looking at XML data? The occasional piece of ranger gear adds +str, which I think is due to random stat generation, and some rangers do wear fighter gear for its def, but rangers shouldn't add any pts. to str.

I just checked your sheet Weedhead...you're not sticking to any advice or logic for rangers...

Only one piece of your EQP is ranger - that one being the RB shotgun you're wielding, The Judge.

You're wearing crystaline and scale...it only gives you +END bonuses and encumbers you. You're also wearing some bits of mage armor and jewelry. Why?

By the way your character points are distributed, you're going for the light-footed, crit ranger. Your skillbar is okay, just consider swapping Noxious and Poison Shot's places. You might also want to get Righteous Stomp when (and if) they close in on you.

Take my advice Crackers, and go for different gear...your best choice is to be pure...keep your weapon, and get rid of your fighter/mage armor/jewelry...if crit ranger is what you're aiming at, then get leather armor (hawk, jackalope and such) with +X% to crit shots. Of course, not all of them have to be RB or purple...there are some pretty decent crit ranger yellows out there...

I've played a Ranger for quite some time (like eight months), and I've never added str to my build when distributing attribute points.

Ok, DO NOT waste your stats on strength for your build as a ranger. The +defense rating is definitely not worth the points that you spend on it when you could put them into +hp/damage.

I have noticed that my gear is getting more movement % after the patch. Has anyone else noticed this?

They might have given our gear more movement speed on account of them changing gym freak.

Trigger Happy Frenzy is faster (I think).

Yes, all lvls of TFF got bumped up by 5%.

I haven't noticed any increase in mvmt speed in gear, though.
