Poison Mage

Ever wanted to be somewhat like sissirat, shooting noxious fumes at your enemies, but can't because you have to have a ranged weapon? I'm here to get you started on the way of the Poison Mage.

Build:

Pure int getting endurance from gear.

Your skill list is going to mostly be poison skills with room for wards/resistances and your passives. Keep in mind that you will need a ranger weapon to use this build. A Vis'Kar's Bilespitter or Dhablu Tieff is a wise choice.

Use these skills:

Left Mouse Button: Poison Shot/Noxious Shot (Either one is a good primary attack)
Hotkey 1: Acidic Blight
Hotkey 2: Gaseous Blast/Putrid Penetration
Hotkey 3: Monster Bait (You can replace this with Toxic Talent if you feel you're good at dodging/ have high enough HP)
Hotkey 4: Extra Crispy Monster Bait (Vital at keeping Yum Yums alive, especially during a boss battle! If you skipped Monster Bait, put Spirit of the Hare/Teleport here.)
Hotkey 5: Elemental Resistance
Hotkey 6: Elemental Ward
Hotkey 7: Bookworm
Hotkey 8: Mental Prowess
Right Mouse Button: Gaseous Blast/Putrid Penetration

Do NOT use Couch Potato. Sure, you may have more intellect and more MP per point of intellect, but Strength is worthless to this build and the skill brings your HP down even further. Stick with Bookworm.

Now for the gear... I'm only going to list possible RB choices, not every other purple/yellow item. These are just my personal favorites for this build: Experiment with your rainbows to find what's right for you!

Poison Mage Gear:

Death's Disdain (Shoulder pads)
Death's Grip (Gloves)
Death's Habit (Robe)
Death's Head (Helmet)
Death's Two Legs (Boots)
Honest-To-Goodness Duality of Man (Amulet)
The Most Amazing Ring Known to Goats (Some Assembly Acquired) [I'd use two of these.]
D'habl'u Ti'eff (Bow) (If you have trouble keeping your health up, this is a good choice.)
Vis'Kar's Bilespitter (Bow) (If you would rather maximize damage or feel your HP pool is strong enough, this is the bow of choice)

You are now well briefed on the way of the Poison Mage. I enjoy this build the most out of others and I do well with PKing when I have my Poison Mage.

Some tips:

Keep moving! Your HP is limited by your passives, so don't let yourself become a punching bag!

Don't bother shooting unless it's an emergency! The reason you need a bow is so that you can use these attacks in the first place.

Team up with a Tank Warrior whenever possible. Use them as a meat shield and you will do very well.

This build is also good for pking! Just take out your Monster Bait/Extra Crispy Monster Bait and replace with Heal Self, not Other/Spontaneous Regeneration and you're good to go.

I hope you enjoy this build.

I hate to say this, but this build for a "poison mage" is just a tweaked build for a "poison ranger". I play a complete poison ranger, and your only flaw is that in order to cause poison damage the way you're describing, you have to physically HIT your target(s) to cause the effect - thus you definitely need to still be mindful of attack rating somewhat. I also do not need to worry about being a "punching bag" since I can get in the fray and still dish aoe dmg while not being squishy.

My skills/build are very close to what you're describing (except for the gear, which to me make no sense...) as my end and int are built evenly. The build you are describing appears to end up being more work than being effective - which I'm not saying is wrong, you did a very thorough job in making your post, but it may have been in vain a bit...

Check out Aerator and see what I mean... Right now I am set up for farming SC. There is a nother poison ranger that is successful, and he's here on boards too. Psiratha is my predecessor, and has a poison ranger build.

Again, not putting you down at all, and congrats on your build - but you may be doing more work than you really need to - kinda fighting yourself in a way.

I agree with the above two (especially Crosis) and just one thing...PKing?...really...on this game? Come on now. I guess if you use this build on a version of Dungeon Runners with open world, non-consensual PvP (World 8?), then yeah,OK, I get it.

Yea, poison mage is dead, there "mage" and "poison" just dont go together.
Unless the devs make a "poison bolt" or such it's just not worth the effort to balance intel/agility when you could be working on a pure shadow build etc.

Also, why all that fire gear? as said above, you need some Medusa rings etc.

Nice chart though, we need more of those
