Log in takes too long & doesn't work
#50536 - 03/08/08 12:56 PM

I was trying to log in a few sec ago but it says I need to change firewall settings & stuff. I didn't but it still doesn't work. I'm using same settings as yesterday and yesterday I was able to log on. What am I doing wrong?

Did your Security Software update overnight? A very easy way to see if it's your Firewall or not is to do this:

1.) Completely disable your firewall so that you have complete and unrestricted access to the internet.

2.) Start DR from the PlayNC launcher.

If the game starts fine from the launcher with your Security Software turned off, there's your answer, the playNC launcher is being blocked/filtered/slowed down by it.

If the game DOESNT start quickly with your Security Software turned off, you might want to consider re-installing the DR Client.

Thanks for the advice. But it wasn't the launcher or anything. F-ing blizzard made all my comp's internet speed 10x slow.

Ideas: Take it serious...
Conflict: Realize it's nothing more than entertainment...

Uh huh...I realize that - that's why I've posted the exact same sentence in discussions and arguments all over these forums. Look...a lot of us come here on purpose to do EXACTLY that: enjoy ourselves. When it is interrupted, we don't like it. End of story. If YOU don't like getting involved, then don't. No one asked you to get in the middle of the "situation". I most DEFINITELY didn't need your assistance on the matter. And NOW btw - YOU'RE the one taking this "serious". If it's so easy a matter for you, then just ignore him, ignore me, and go about your business. You won't hurt my feelings in any way.

It's over, let it go. Some people like to get multiple piercings all over their body. Some people hang their bodies on flesh hooks to gain euphoria. Apparently we like to come to a forum and joke about things while making suggestions and discussions about a game we love - and we HATE having it soured by assinine posts. A lot of people don't come to the forums because they feel it is too "serious" and they just want to have a good time - that's fine with me. Maybe you should talk with them.

Idea: Entertainment
Conflict: People who feel they need to ruin enjoyment by getting negative attention with abrasive and incorrect posts/answers, and people interjecting about how someone else is supposed to get enjoyment and how they should react to the degradation of it as if they themselves have the answers for everyone.

That's enough for me here...now I'm just ruining my enjoyment factor and getting too serious.

Don't worry about me. I've been enjoying myself this whole time. That's the difference between us. You just managed to harsh your own mellow, while I am entertained by having one more opportunity to rib meath3ad in good fun.

Tingmakpuk,

Are you in Alaska? That name sounds like Inuit or Aleut words I remember hearing up there.

On a more serious note however, there is a lot of hypocrisy flying around. You're both treating this with a significant degree of seriousness. I do not pretend I don't treat the forums seriously: and really, who said being serious and having fun are mutually exclusive? One can debate about perfectly serious matters like war, politics, the meaning of life, religion, and yet have fun doing so. In fact, it is the serious aspect of debates that make it fun: the fact that it is mentally stressing, forcing you to think up arguments and counter-arguments, etc... that is the whole point. Anyone who claims otherwise are kidding themselves.

So guys, please stop asking each other to "stop being so serious, it's just the Internet, geez..." because that is utter rubbish. Human to human social interaction is the same in real life, over the phone, through mail, and over the Internet. If it is considered okay to act serious in real life social interactions, why is it considered to be a "sign of inferiority" over the Internet?

Serious

–adjective
1.of, showing, or characterized by deep thought.
2.of grave or somber disposition, character, or manner: a serious occasion; a serious man.
3.being in earnest; sincere; not trifling: His interest was serious.
4.requiring thought, concentration, or application: serious reading; a serious task.
5.weighty or important: a serious book; Marriage is a serious matter.
6.giving cause for apprehension; critical: The plan has one serious flaw.
7.Medicine/Medical. (of a patient's condition) having unstable or otherwise abnormal vital signs and other unfavorable indicators, as loss of appetite and poor mobility: patient is acutely ill.
–noun
8.that which is of importance, grave, critical, or somber: You have to learn to separate the serious from the frivolous.

The bolded meanings are those which I think are usually not mutually exclusive with the idea of entertainment. You can be serious and have fun. If everyone on the forums do not put thought to their posts and are insincere, does that make the forums a better place? I think not. Thought and sincerity are reasonably important in all interactions, including one such as these forums.

Take this very post for example. Why have I posted this "serious" post? To attempt to resolve this issue. Is it bad/useless/overreacting because it is a "serious" post? Personally, I do not think so, though you may have other opinions. But the fact that you do have an opinion, and possibly express it, shows that you are serious about it: the opinion you gave is sincerely yours, and you have put thought into it.

Good call. Inupiaq, to be precise. Were you living here, or just up for the mosquito rodeos?

We all deceive ourselves in more ways than we ourselves are aware of. You will be deceiving yourself if you believe you do not deceive yourself. I would like to add "and vice versa" here, but really; I don't think that makes logical sense, even if it sounds cool. Personally, I deceive myself into believing that the reason why humans live together in societies is so we can tear down the deceptions other people erect around themselves, by first deceiving ourselves and then forcing those whom we deceive ourselves to believe are deceiving themselves to believe the deception we have erected around ourselves to deceive us and others.

And really, deception makes the world go 'round, so don't be ashamed if you realise you were deceiving yourself. After all, in purging you of your self deception, I myself were required to first deceiving myself and using my false belief to drive my attempts to deceive others using the same deception I used on myself, and thus deceiving others into thinking I have purged them of their self-deception by clouding their mind with my own style of deception so they can no longer see the deception they themselves had erected, and thus deceiving themselves into thinking their own deception no longer exists, when in truth it does.

Should I continue?

So what you're saying is... my erection is the problem. If so, it's one big problem indeed. But I for one am not ashamed of my erection, but rather am quite proud of it. You admit we all have erections, so why not embrace our erections? (I mean let's each embrace our own. I don't really care for the erections of others.)

Either you have a sick mind, or I have a sick mind, or both is true, or you are trying to deceive me into thinking you have a sick mind, or you are baiting me to deceive me into thinking you think I have a sick mind and therefore feel good about myself, or you just genuinely have a sick mind, or I have deceived you into taking an opinion that is rather bizzare.

Maybe you should read his book Necro to see if he has a sick mind (if your willing to pay money for it).

I can already successfully log in...

Can a moderator please lock this topic?

We'd pretty well beaten the topic into the ground, so Necro's post probably would have been the last. Thanks for keeping it alive. Master, now is it? Your new name and recent post almost seem to be baiting us. Don't be a baiter, Master.
