Confused on Crit Builds
#48865 - 02/22/08 02:53 PM

Ok, I have read most of the posts and still don't have any good answers. Crit rangers are dependent on gear, When I level up I don't get that satisfying surge of power (Buy new cool skills, etc) as I do with the other classes and I can't find the gear to support crit. Should I work on poison skills until I get the gear I need or is there some other path such as shadow lightning? Should buy any other skills skills until I can get the gear to support a full crit build? I have the standard build of Trigger Finger Frenzy, Trigger Happy, Acidic Blight, Gaseous Blast, BMI, Gym Freak, Bookworm, Resistances, Monster Bait, Spirit of the Hare. I have all my points in agility and collect anything that adds to %ranged crit. Any ideas are welcome.. Is there any other place besides Townston's and DR forum to look up builds?

my IGN is Antarix level 23

For Builds.. at the moment not.. atleast not in english.. as far as I know.

I got some tips from me, a hardcore ranger, for you. First of all: You understand the principe of ranger and the types. Indeed plain damage, poison and crit.

Crit rangers are indeed much better in higher levels, due to more % chance the higher lvl the gear is. As a low level, afcourse it wont hurt to wear some % crit, but dont depent on it too much.

Poison is something not to depent on either, but always to have with you. Shooting only with poison leaves you with not enough damage, probbably.

As you can see my point is that Plain damage rangers are the best, with always some poison. Crit doesnt hurt either for plain damage rangers, but is better at higher level.

I think its best for you to focus on your min/max damage, and the speed. Also equip poison shot and wear + poison dps gear whenever you find it. So a combi of plain damage ranger/poison ranger, that is. If you're for the fast leveling, you can also consider taking noxious shot with you, because it might be weak against single targets, together with gaseous it can do insanely much area of effect damage.

=== EDIT ===

Your build looks ok, your health might be a bit low, but if you dont die too much, its all fine. I'd consider it well-built, but dont trick yourself by keeping level 15 gloves as a level 23. Some people keep their rainbow equiped even if they find upgrades, and that is definitely not usefull, as other people dont see a certain glove is a rainbow anyway.

Try to find upgrades for your lvl 15 bony hands, level 14 purple ring and your level 16 shoulders.

=== EDIT ===

Thanks alot, Legendrunner, I'll tweak my build in that direction, I just havent found anything to replace the gloves or ring yet.. Should I go with a fast lower damage or a slow higher damage weap? I was soloing SC for a while hoping for good drops maybe I'll go back and try again now that I'm higher level at a higher difficulty.. I am mainly trying to level to past 30 to increase the chance of RB drops and then go crit once I have the gear.

1. There is no such thing as increasing the rainbow drops. This only is possible when you hit level 90+, or playing in HDoL. The info that at lvl 30 more rbs will drop is false.

2. The usefullness of slow weapons mostly is the % speed off the gear that can make a big advantage. As you are a low level still, I'd suggest not to use slow weapons, but fast low hitting weapons, as you got the speed already, you can fully focus on gear with just +agility for the damage instead of specific % speed.

Thanks, again I'll try and find a better weap..
One more thing, what base endurance should I shoot for?
I was putting everything into Agi and you said my health was a little low.
Should I just get it from my gear and not care so much about agi gear for now?
I have 30 endurance now after a quick respec, but then I dropped some endurance gear for agility gear.

yea i kinda got the idea that i should focus on maximizing my agility atm, legendrunner. im currently lvl 47 and for some reason i worried too much about +crit%. but i found out that i should be worrying about that in the 80's.

so i guess ill have to find a demon sniper. the the plate piercer im using right now, it hits good, but its slow as hell!

and malavictus, if ur gonna start looking for +crit% and +agi gear, look for: "extreme manatee", "prepared hawk", "accurate hawk". just hawk and manatee. good stuff.
