DR is doing well by me :)
#48849 - 02/22/08 10:09 AM

Well I got my first Rainbow drop the other night [you can see it in my character linked in the sig below] but it was the Shardian which is pretty nice [been playing this game for a long time (off and on) and this is my first RB drop].

One thing that just hit me though - there are alot of minute 'homages' to WarHammer aren't there? Or is it just me? I mean I have seen the Imperial Eagle as weapons, the Space Marines / Imperial Skull is on most of the hammers, a few of the swords are perfect replicas of commanders swords in both WH original and WH40K, the Chain Sword [or chainsaw sword] I have seen some people with is almost 100% identical to the Space Wolves Chainsword, and one of the large 2 handed hammers is very similar to what Space Marine Librarians are equipped with - so is it just me or are there some Warhammer fanatics on the design team?

Overall I find I am enjoying the game just as much as when I first started playing - which is saying alot for me as I tend to drop games kinda quick [though I do have you all to blame for me finding and re-installing Diablo 2 recently >:-/ ]

Keep it up Stephen & Crew!

FINALLY, someone understands me! Thank you so very much RK...

Everyone is always talking how DR is WoW and DiabloII put together - but everyone also always asks, "Where the heck do they get the ideas for all these crazy monsters and stuff..." I keep telling them : WARHAMMER and 40K! But no one listens to me, or they act as if they don't know what these two extremely gigantic and expansive games are.... I mean c'mon! Two of the largest tabletop games, with the largest fan base in the world - how could you NOT know about it... , oh well, they're missing out is all. More for me....

Here are a BUNCH of examples of WH in DR:

Whiskerlings = Skaven....(to a "T", am I right? Whisker Shaman = Grey Seer...even their staves are similar)

Whisker DeathSpitters = Skaven Poison Wind Globadiers/Warpfire team gunner put together (ingenious really...I think I might do my next conversions based after this idea....hmmm )

Poison Hulks and some mutant Hulks = Tyranid Carnifex

Divine/Shadow Enforcers and Generals (i.e. all the Shermans, etc) = Chaos Champions with power armour/terminator armour with no helmets

People's Picks = DEFINITELY the Imperial Eagle insignia on a stick, lol.

Devastators and all "the other metal skeleton guys in various levels, esp widows' nest with laser rifles/beam guns" = NECRONS

etc, etc....

Now, I'm NOT complaining - let me clear that up. I love the content of the game, and thats why I play it. DR has taken stuff from all OVER the place (there's another post about content from Discworld from LordMagnus), and it's made it all homogenous and actually made it work while staying funny, so I say "Bravo!" to the design/research team for "well-picked tidbits" of all of our beloved material (wherever it may have come from... )

To all the naysayers about Warhammer and 40k, I say here you go:

Warhammer Home Linky - Browse and see what we're talking about.....armies are on the left.

Warhammer 40k Home Linky - Same thing, armies are on the left....

You can see all the past and present miniatures there too.

Oh yeah...and if anyone lives anywhere near me in Spfld, MO that plays WH or 40K, PLEASE pm me. I have no one around here to play with - I left all my hobby buds back in MA when I moved. I have 7 armies that are mad at me for being cooped up in boxes and might take over my house soon with their pent up rage....

Help me....

Hehe, thought I might be the only one for a bit. Yeah, I forgot to mention the Chaos General's being duplicates of Chaos Champions in 40k - it just hit me like a rock a few days ago and I noticed more and more connections as time went on .

I used to have a very lovely Ork Horde army that I was quite proud of [in fact I ended up creating a custom software application to organize armies for game sessions - that was in the '90s so there wasn't really an online to look for stuff like that ], it disappeared while I was in the Navy though - now I relieve my WH needs with WH40K Dawn of War [+ the expansions]; if I lived in your area though I would take you up on a tabletop game - it has been too long (Heck, if you have DoW then I would love to play a MP match online w/ ya - if not then thats ok too ]

Ya know I never connected the Devestators to Necrons until I saw what you wrote, then I thought back and realized that that is spot on - even the weapons are Necron style.
