item naming mechanics
#48728 - 02/20/08 05:03 AM

I've started a project to descipher the code that explains what an item does based on the name of that item. I started with jewelry and found that once you master the "rules" of item generation, it goes by pretty quick.

Sorry for my longwindedness as per ussual

Here is my issue. Item follow the simple rule of (Blank) (item type and quality if it is no purple) (of the/from the) (blank). Rings do not seem to follow this! Example.

Airborne tarnished serpentine hoop of the Bulky Dodo

This item adds defence rating and ranged attack rating because of tarnished, +% to crushing damage because of bulky, and + Intelligence because of dodo

Stacked ornate cereal box ring of the Parasitic Clam

this item adds + mana and + health because of stacked, +5 Health steal because of parasitic, and an equal amount of strength and endurance because of Clam.

What does ornate or falsie or tarnished do for an item? doesn't seem to be level related as all the items I am referenceing right now are between level 29-36, so there should not be more than 2 different quality levels, I've come across quite a few words that are adjectives for the actual ring.

Oh, as a side note, serpentine hoops I have found have many different adjectives describing them, so it does not seem to be related to what kind of ring it is.

Sorry for the confusion I'm sure this post will cause

Gah, tarnished doesn't seem to do anything, was meant to say airborne that adds def and attack rating. sorry, late nights not the best time to post hard concepts.

Here's a good point of reference, although the guide is for a much older build:

The list Ripper linked to is pretty good, but it's very generalized. This one, when complete, will be much more concise - there are actually different sets of words for jewelry and armor, and weapon words go all the hell over the place.
