Abusing the "Most Viewed Character" Feature
#47778 - 02/14/08 03:47 AM

I just browsed through the XML Sheets, and I noticed that Crackersd and Crackersf are on the top two of the Most Viewed List. This struck me as odd, since usually the most viewed characters are either skilled PvPers or level 100s. It seems to me unlikely that two low leveled characters with mediocre builds and no significant amount of PvP Wins can become the most popular characters being visited on the XML Sheets. I suspect that a player or a group of players is abusing the function... especially considering the two belong to the same person. Here is a screenshot.

Most Viewed Characters

If I am wrong about this, please forgive my negative assumption.

I think we can assume that this is a result of one of two scenarios.

A) crackers is such an interesting person that everyone feels the need to see what a person with that genetic makup would make for a DR toon.
B) one person of a special genetic makeup has decided to view the toons over and over and over again.

I'm willing to put a vote on option #2

Amaratha- arcane/shadow mage
Necratha- Brutish barbarian
Psiratha- poison ranger

Yes, I'm afraid I reached the same conclusion. Most likely, the owner of the characters decided to broadcast him/herself across the XML Site in a plea for attention.

Well, I dug through my logs since people keep pointing out this abuse. It turns out that the 720+ requests in the last two days for *crackers* have come from a range of IPs. So, either this one person viewing it is using a proxy, or travels a lot during the day, or a lot of those views are actually coming from people clicking the link in his sig.

On the other hand, only 12 of those 720+ were actually referred from the dungeonrunners boards, and four from the home page, so this is someone, or a group of people constantly refreshing.

Now, I personally don't care if someone wants to increase their post count, that's up to their self-esteem to choose to do.

I don't suppose it is a problem if people do use it to broadcast themselves, it's just that it sort of clutters up the Most Viewed Character List and somewhat defeats its purpose.

Does it really matter? Lol, it would just be another thing to brag about anyways...."I'm the most viewed" Blah blah.

Last week I was only doing PvP, so other PvPers might have tried to cheat...if it's cheating. The refreshing part could be my friend...I let him play on it for a few hours.
