damage reflection build?
#47776 - 02/14/08 03:29 AM |
A fried on mine was toying around with gear while trying to find a fast way to kill rotgut. He invited me to the group and made me leader and told me to step back and simply watch him destroy rotgut. I had it on insane difficulty so I assumed he would have a hard time but behold, he detroyed the first group and the proceeded to destroy the second group and rotgut. To make this even more impressive, he was level 40 and this was on rotgut max dificulty, so about level 50. What makes it strange is that my friend did nothing. He sat there, drinking health every so often and the groups died. He did have to switch gear a bit but after some testing he had come to the conclusion that he was actually using less potions and farming faster than when he went through the group with no reflection and trying for highest traditional dps Is this a legitimate build? It just seems a little too easy. Granted, it required a few rainbows and odd jewelry, but it just seemed far to easy. Characters name is Onaedan, the setup hasn't changed much from what I saw save for a death by the slice or plate piercer, as he switches between those. -------------------- Amaratha- arcane/shadow mage Necratha- Brutish barbarian Psiratha- poison ranger |

I don't really think a damage reflection build will work better than a normal build, because the thing is, monster damage is very low compared to player damage. Even if you reflect it all back, it really isn't much. Possibly, with a lot of Reflection Power and against something hard hitting like Rotgut, the build may work. Against normal mobs like the Groupies and the Roadies, who only do a few hundred damage per attack, it likely isn't going to kill them faster than blasting them. There might be a few things to check though. Firstly, you said you were leader. Are you significantly lower leveled than your friend? If so, then the feat seems less spectacular, since difficulty scales with the leader. |

I was leader as a level 100, he was level 40. That's is the part that made the whole thing odd to me. I believe that rotgut maxes out at level 50 so that was his difficulty level. -------------------- Amaratha- arcane/shadow mage Necratha- Brutish barbarian Psiratha- poison ranger |

I'm stumped then. Damage Reflection always struck me as relatively weak. |

Some months ago, Jinxed, now.. pretty much vanished away, used 500% melee reflect (retibution + FULL GEAR inclusive jewelery reflect) For The Shadoq Queen, because at that time it was just like abby, run straight and fight the boss right ahead. This worked extremely well and I am a witness of the biggest single hit EVER, 80k reflect, since the SQ did a heavy crit. You sure can try this, but many mroe builds are easier and maybe even better, I need to say. |

I'm not sure what player you're referring to, but I know Onaedan on world 7, and he does this all the time - specifically on Rotty. He simply has high reflect ranged dmg gear on (I think he has Death by the slice, two rings and an Amulet). He goes in, kills the roadies (the melee guys), and while killing them, the groupies (the chics with guns) literally kill themselves almost at the same rate he kills the roadies. If not, then one swing and they're dead. Same thing when he gets to Rotty. He engages the roadies, and while killing them, rotty and the girls beat themselves up. Once the roadies are dead, he just stands back and drinks pots as necessary. It works quite well and frankly, it seems pretty ingenious. He says he kills just as fast or faster doing it "normally" and spends less pots. I've been with him a bunch of times, and I gotta tell ya, farming with him is great fun! lol ![]() Reflect dmg % is just what it says it is as it was explained to me/us here on the forums a few months back by Anson in the middle of a thread...I'll look for it and try and post the linky. The % reflected is the actual amount of damage done to you by the offender - so if an enemy causes you 100 ranged dmg (physical dmg like a xbow or gun) and you have 130% ranged reflect total, then that person actually TAKES more dmg back than what they cause (i.e. in this case they would take 130 dmg.) I don't think it's a cheat at all, since the whole ranged reflect thing will really only be THIS effective for rotty because of the magnitude of ranged attacks and their high damage numbers. For just runnin' around the dungeon it wouldn't be so useful, and the benefit in pvp is limited since other gear that you dont have on instead of the reflect stuff is really only hampering your stats and bonuses. Down with rotty! Yay for ranged reflect gear! edit: oh yeah, in case someone doesn't understand... Reflect dmg (melee or ranged) doesn't mean that you don't actually take any damage. You TAKE the damage amount that is inflicted upon you (like the 100 above) but then the reflect dmg % kicks in and causes that much dmg back to the offender (130 dmg). So, you have to TAKE dmg in order for reflect dmg to CAUSE dmg. That is all....carry on.... -------------------- Swiper CAUTION: STAIRS ARE DANGEROUS AND ARE TO BE USED BY TRAINED PROFESSIONALS ONLY!
