Group buffs and dancing/emotes
#46242 - 02/03/08 08:36 PM

Alright before I get started: I AM NOT A WARCRAFT FAN!

There now that that's out of the way, I can begin

First off, Dancing/Emotes... a minor change to the game. It would provide players with fun little actions. Imagine doing a victory breakdance after a won PvP match, or waving/jumping up and down to have players in other groups notice where u are for Trades. Not very important but interesting.

Group Buffs- this is a bit more important than the above. This game has groups, but lacks options in those groups, other than killing things together. Why not add more strategy to PvE and especially PvP based groups. Group Int buffs and Group Damage buffs, for example, would add more fun to the game. These strong buff should not be given out lightly to newbs of course, but for higher level characters who deserve it. This could also work for resistances.

Guys, I would really like add ons to this suggestion or explanations to why its a bad idea... Please don't start flaming from the start (hint hint Teclis)

Ty for reading.

TheCreed - Spec-ing every other day - fun, yet hella expensive. When you're tired of the same old s***, do what all the cool kids do

Regarding emotes: Emotes have been suggested and discussed before, although I don't think there's been an official dev response. Here are my thoughts, though:

Regarding group buffs (Linky 3):

There are no plans for a healer / buffer class. The game is currently balanced for potions to heal.

The reason we don't have plans for one is that we want for everyone to be able to group or solo and have fun. When you introduce Healer / Buffer classes, then you need to balance the game for the fact that someone can get healed instantly. If you balance the game to make up for this, then you will have people who can't get groups or can't adventure in certain areas because of the need/desire for a healer.

On a personal note....I hate it when I'm deep in a dungeon, on a long raid, doing a task force, or just plain xping and my fun is ended because the healer leaves.

While this quote directly addresses a "healing" class, it also applies to buffer/debuffer classes (think EQ Shamans).

IMO ~ the emote/dancing abilities...they've pretty much been done to death everywhere else. Besides, the game is true to it's name, Dungeon Runners: We run dungeons is much better then we dance around in dungeons...

Group Buffs/Healing ...not a bad idea to be blunt about it. It will promote more grouping and therefore more 'high-end' loot to trickle down through the masses.

...I still think there should be a portable hole.

why does this crap keep floating to the top all the time...

Group healing/healers isn't needed, and I agree with stephens ideals about it. However, group BUFFS of some sort maybe wouldnt be so bad in the future (like the warrior's shout ability could "embolden" the group giving then higher AR or something for 10 secs - along those lines).

About the emoticons and dancing thing. I dont really care about the dancing - it could be funny and could easily be made to fit into DR's brand of humour. As for the emotes however - I think it's usually pretty easy to tell just how people here at DRland feel in general or about a certain subject/topic without needing to have a special face to relay it. Emotes are about as high on the general-need list as marriage and hiding-helm features.

Although, if we DO somehow get a marriage feature as requested in another posting (::gags::) then we will definitely NEED emoticons to get through that...

Offensive Gesture is already sort of a Group Buff, albeit a very unused one.

This game is designed to be a solo game first.....group bonus's are against that principle.......anything that is given to a group must also translate to being available to solo runners...... forcing people to group to receive ANY bonus or special treatment is against the way this game is designed.........as for the emote thing.....I am afraid I feel it rates right up there with pvp.....unneeded and a waste of time

It is a matter of opinion. Remember, MMOs are basically social games, and player interaction, friendly and competitive, are a major part of MMOs, if not THE major part. Emotes benefit the more social player, group buffs benefits those who enjoy cooperative gameplay, and PvP is for players who prefer to be competitive rather than coorperative. All three areas have their place in DR, it is only a matter of priority.

OG was implemented as a balance against Boss Mob AI that aggressively targets the player with least hit points.

In grouped Boss encounters in HDoL 3/6 I've been 2 shotted to death only to use "go to" and have the Boss disengage and attack from the other side of the screen and one shot kill me again. I've gotten one shotted by the Queen Of Shadows multiple times in a row because the AI is so aggressive.

This isn't fun.

Most MMO's that function around cooperative effort have a skill to draw aggro to the player in the classic role of "tank". The classic roles of MMO's are much less apparent in DR by design. A good group in DR doesn't always have to have a tank, a damage dealer, a debuffer/buffer, and definitely not a healer. DR toons are much more versatile and self sufficient than those standard roles. That's a big reason cooperative play in DR is a whole lot of hectic fun.

It's too bad if this is an underused skill, there is something to be said for it's ability to help raise efficiency of group play.

Heh I never suggested a healer class if you read my explanation... I meant sort of what Tec said, group buffs for a limited amount of time... only boosting a bit for a certain time.
As for emotes... Heh I still want to dance or wave to people...
Or do an aggravating breakdance in front of a boss before I "PwN" him.
