The "paladin" title is just in reference to the kind and amount of skills you have in your skill bar. Anyone can be a "paladin" by having fighter passives with (i think) 3 or more divine skills. I havent seen any "dark" or "white" paladin specifically...

do a search on forum for class title.

Untrue. My fighter was a White Paladin by equiping Soul Rend and Holy Roller. I think Dark Paladin can be gained by equiping Soul Rend and Shadow Lightning or other shadow skills.

I try this, Shadow Lighning + Soul Rend + Divine Resistence
and passiv mage skills Couch Potato + Bookworm (for more mana)

Hope I will be a Dark Paladin

Okay, if I use shadow skills and divine skill I'm a Pandemonical Fighter/Dark Knight.
One question, is my build okay?

If you plan to use Butcher, put it on one of your mouse buttons: I suggest put Stomp in the skillbar instead. You want the mouse buttons to hold fast weapon-based cooldown spells. Stomp has a cooldown of 15 seconds.

I dont think you CAN get to be a Dark Paladin...a Paladin works for the light side of the "Force" no? You can be a Paladin by placing divine spells into your tray.

Definition of Paladin:

1. Any one of the 12 legendary peers or knightly champions in attendance on Charlemagne.

2. Any knightly or heroic champion.

3. any determined advocate or defender of a cause.

No where does it mention that a Paladin must be "good". Any advocate for any cause can be a Paladin.

The terms "knightly" and "heroic" are both, by definition, characterized as having esteemed and/or desired moral characteristics (i.e. the connotation of "good")

I mean, if we're gonna get into a lexicographical discussion let's get it on! lol,

From wiktionary:

Knightly: formally courteous (as a knight); chivalrous, gallant and courtly
Heroic: The qualities characteristic of a hero, as courage, bravery, fortitude, unselfishness, etc.; the display of such qualities.

Sorry, but I think you shot yourself in the foot this time necro. Those all look like "good" characteristics to me - sometimes you gotta look into your sub-definitions (you can check mine, lol)

I'm not flaming you necro, you know I love ya!

3. any determined advocate or defender of a cause.

You were looking at point 2, I am looking at point 3. Any determined advocate or defender of a cause: it doesn't say it has to be a "Good" cause.

Oh c'mon Necro, you can't pick and choose which parts of a definition fit your argument if they are all pertinent.
So, at very LEAST, we're both right, and in that case and in this discussion - "paladin" is being assumed to be something "good" by the person who asked the original question. When it comes to THEIR choice of word-use, then it is being used as the one the denotes "goodness."

I'm pretty sure you're the only person I've met that thought the word "paladin" referred to anything BUT an idea that was "good," but if there weren't people that thought like you, then we wouldn't need the other sub-definition I suppose...

You never give up do ya? lol. It's alright, like I said, it was all in jest. I'm going to become a paladin of neutrality.

It isn't a question of "choosing the definition that suits my designs", its a matter of how this is supposed to work. Alternate meanings mean just that: alternative meanings. The definition of a Paladin can mean any advocate of a cause OR one of the twelve members of Charlemagne's court. Does that mean a Paladin has to be both? Of course not. Take another example:

Quote:

Pretty

adjective
1. pleasing or attractive to the eye, as by delicacy or gracefulness: a pretty face.
2. (of things, places, etc.) pleasing to the eye, esp. without grandeur.
3. pleasing to the ear: a pretty tune.
4. pleasing to the mind or aesthetic taste: He writes pretty little stories.
5. (often used ironically) fine; grand: This is a pretty mess!
6. Informal. considerable; fairly great: This accident will cost him a pretty sum.
7. Archaic or Scot.. brave; hardy.

noun
8. Usually, pretties. pretty ornaments, clothes, etc.
9. a pretty person: Sit down, my pretty.

adverb
10. fairly or moderately: Her work was pretty good.
11. quite; very: The wind blew pretty hard.
12. Informal. prettily.

verb (used with object)
13. to make pretty; improve the appearance of (sometimes fol. by up): to pretty oneself for a party; to pretty up a room.

Idiom
14. sitting pretty, Informal.
a. in an advantageous position.
b. well-to-do; successful.

As you can see, the word "pretty" can be used as an adjective, a noun, an adverb or a verb. Does that mean it must cover all meanings at once when it is used? Of course not! Only one meaning needs to be taken into account at any one use. So you see, I was not "choosing the meaning that suits me", I am using the meaning that fits into the context: that of a Dark Paladin, in this case.

EDIT: Sorry for being so serious about this matter, but I could not help it. It is my very nature to argue.

I wasn't taking you serious Necro, don't worry. I've stopped taking peoples stuff seriously, especially people who have lots of contructive things to say normally. Gotta take the good with the bad when it comes to people you consider your "peers." Plus, I don't usually get too heated personally when discussing something scholastic, as it's usually more benficial to learn others' points of view and understandings of things to augment your own.

I enjoy your responses - they have a certain passion. It's never bad to "argue" (although I see this more of a discussion than an argument really) since people should really be able to stand behind what they believe strongly in (at least until they have been instilled with some doubt as to its veracity).

Now, by "passion" I mean the definition used to simply describe an intense feeling, belief, or emotional position on a subject - not the one that denotes "love" directly necessarily...

4. A character class in World of Warcraft

"Guardians of the Holy Light and defenders of the Alliance, paladins bolster their allies with holy auras and blessing to protect their friends from harm and enhance their powers. Wearing heavy armor, they can withstand terrible blows in the thickest battles while healing their wounded allies and resurrecting the slain. In combat, they can wield massive two-handed weapons, stun their foes, destroy undead and demons, and judge their enemies with holy vengeance. Paladins are a defensive class designed to outlast their opponents"

Which I think is a better definition for a paladin in an MMO.

Even the Arthurian legends have examples of dark/evil knights who were heroic/knightly...

See Green Knight, some versions of Modred, Maleagant

Just saying that there are examples of fighters who are knightly and heroic but decidedly not good.

Back on topic, Snarky's character viewer has a listing for titles, including Paladin.

And in Snarky his class viewer, there are yet to be found Dark Paladins.
Dark Paladin.. it sounds to me like 2 things that are opposite to eachother, mxied together hehe.
Maybe if.. you make a Paladin with shadow skills?

That's what I thought. The OP actually put shadow lightning with divine based fighter skills and got Dark Knight or Pandemonical Fighter...close but not Dark Paladin. Also, Snarky's viewer only lists titles viewed by the viewer. It doesn't mean the title doesn't exist, only that someone haven't unlocked it and viewed it with his viewer.

Well technically, the "evil" version of a paladin is called a Blackguard.

I have no idea. I think Gladius cast a Raise Dead spell and the thread made it's system shock roll. No worries, I'm sure Gladius aged 1d4 years.
