I'm the typical AoE mage with the shadow and ring of fire, blah blah blah

I used to use a mage weapon with warrior equipment but I switched to all mage stuff

Either way, I still die a lot in boss fights, even though I can solo perfectly fine on normal dungeon levels


Is it just me, or do mages die a lot in boss lairs?

Boss fights I use shadow lightning to clear the bosses minions, unless they respawn, then I ignore them. After that I switch my left click ckill to shadow bolt, or ice bolt to finish the main boss off. ThisNameTaken below is my mage if you wan to check what he normally uses.

I guess it's just my level that's making me die fast..because for bosses I'm usually with a group with higher levels

How do you guys beat Vergrim? That guys is just insanely difficult? I'm a 28 mage and just cannot beat him, all his respawning mobs keep knocking me out and he ends up regening all his health back! I'm working on divine resist but it's just not quite enough yet.

Help...

1. Beat down the 3 champions that guard him. Use thickheadedness to reduce the irritation of being perma-knocked down.

2. Get fire and divine resistance. His whisker minions do fire attacks, Vergrim does divine damage. Buff up when attacking him after dispatching champions, though the buff time is very short.

3. Don't do AoE attacks on the whisker minions (RoF, Shadow Lightning, Gas Blast, etc.) - it causes them to explode and knock you down. Stay with a single target attack (ice bolt would be what I'd recommend) on Vergrim.

4. Spam pots.

5. Helpful to have either Blue Screen of Life or enough endurance to take some damage from him - I'd recommend having at least 5k life.

He's a pain in the tuckus, but doable.

Use Divine Resistance, like said. Fire Resistance, IMO, is a waste of skill slots, since the broodlings don't do that much damage compared to Vergrim's one/two shot kills.

Take on the Champions first (there's two, not three). Don't use any Fire Spells, I believe Vergrim and his minions all have high fire resistance.

Do NOT attack the Broodlings if you can help it, but usually you cannot help it. I would reccomend getting Righteous Stomp: when the broodlings begin to smoke, use Stomp and they'll explode harmlessly away from you.

You may want to use insta-hit spells (bolt spells often gets blocked by his minions) such as Shadow Lightning and such along with your basic bolts. It can help to get him when you're blocked by the minions and prevent him from regenerating.

I stand corrected...TWO champions not three. *sigh* been a while since I fought him.

snow chief is a much easier boss, IMO. More loot, more exp, and easier. Have your fire gear on with retribution and thickheadness and kill the first 2 sets. Buff thickheadness, do your aoes, run in circles a bit, wait till most the foddlers are dead from aoes and such then buff pyro and goto town on snow chief. While still using your aoes you will kill snow chief and his 2 names together with low mana costs. Just make sure you buff thickheadness and have your fire gear on with any melee reflection as well.

Each run should get you 50k cash and like 500 exp. At this lvl i also say to do full endurance as full int at low lvls and trying to do a boss doesnt work to well.

Being a mage is fun and easy to take down boss if you got the right build running, like so many above me suggested.
