Fastest Solo Xp?
#43906 - 01/11/08 09:06 PM

With my current build and running specific dungeons, I can average 1,000xp every 2 minutes and 30 seconds consistently for as long as I want. Basically it involves filling my inventory with potions (stock up after level) gathering mobs quickly, using AOE attacks and never stopping to loot or finish off boss/champion mobs that don't die initially. Using this strategy I've gained a level at an average rate of 45 minutes since level 45 (I'm 81).

Does anyone have a better build/strategy that allows them to gain xp faster? I'm experimented but have never been able to beat the consistent 1000xp/2.5minute mark.

Remember, solo only, no PL!

Yeah, that's basically it. Build a mage - get shadow lightning/gas blast/rof and go into any small map instance, preferably with mobs w/o knockback and high resists. Herd, gas, nuke, rinse and repeat.

Unfortunately, it's nothing special and it gets tiresome very quickly. People have only known how to do that since, well, beta. I don't get 1000 xp every two minutes because I stop to loot stuff; however, if I didn't I can easily get that.

Important thing about this strategy is that it gets extremely boring extremely fast

I can do the 1k xp but most of the time I'll simply run dungeons normally since it is way more entertaining

(PS: Map to do this = Demonic Crypt #1)

The thing everyone one forgets to mention about AoE mages is that Acidic Blight comes in very handy, In HDoL I use Acidic | Gaseous | Ring of Fire on keys 1, 2 and 3, works great for clearing out lots of mobs

Why would acidic blight help? It only lowers a mob's defense rating, which is only effective against weapon attacks (for which the players AR is compared to the mobs DR).

Hmm, that makes logical sense, although I remember being told that it also worked for mages, it always seems to boost my damage output..

Sorry to tell your Darth but you have been misinformed. Acidic Blight is completely useless to a pure mage. It is only useful if you are doing physical damage to the mob. AB in no way lowers a mobs resistances to your magic.

It is helpful though for those of us who carry along a popper for clearing up the last few mobs though as u can then mow them down quickly without much effort. :P

I also use holy roller. This helps me zip around to those annoying mobs that run. It also helps me get out of the swarm if I have to. I'll target a mob outside of the mass and then holy roller to him.

I have tried using soul rend as a boss attack, which seems to do ok. Fireball is nice but you run into the LOS issues.

So I will holy roller into a boss, soul rend, blast-rof, soul rend, etc. The soul rend dps is ok, but then you have to have some agility.

"OK"?! The soul rend dps is one of the highest in the game when its ranked up, lol. It's fighters primary, "If I swing and this connects, youre going to be a mad [censored]!" attack. I'm not makin fun of you D, just making sure that soul rend gets its props.....yo.

The term you described there is censored for good reason. If you consider profanity to be "bad", then that term is quite bad. I suggest you look up somewhere like Wikipedia to find out what the term stands for.

Yes, thank you necro - I understand where the term comes from...I dont need the smart comment, and youve read plenty of my posts to know that I'm educated in the meaning of many terms.

And this doesnt need to be a giant issue kids - was just a little funny since that four letter term is used on MAD TV and multitudes of programs, movies, all the time...

Kind of like when I posted in world chat one time after the censors started: "Hi-.. , Hi-.. its off to farm we go!" and it censored my statement. There was no derogatory intent, the term just happens to be spelled the same.

Lets not make this into a bigger deal than this is, and Ive never posted a "questionable" language post here on the forum ever, so dont flame me now for no reason. Believe me, Ill be sure to never do it again - as a joke or otherwise.

I use sould rend mostly on the bosses or those tough mobs such as the 'hulks' or those pesky ones that seem to run away all the time.

I then use the aoes to clear out the fodder.

It actually works quite well. I will do 2end 2int 1agil, and Stock up on high end/int/agil item.

I will also use a shield, since my main dps is a ludicris soul rend and aoes, I don't really need duel weild or a 2h.

Unfortunatly it has been my experience, with the current state of the game, that fighters get shafted in many ways.

I see no point in playing a fighter. Create a high end/agil archer and wear high AR armor.

Fighters are quite powerful in both PvE and PvP. I really don't know why you consider Fighters to be so inferior. Perhaps you aren't playing it correctly...

Fighters get shafted? WOW<!> Lets see, if by shafted you mean that it wasn't enough in the last patch that just gave all fighter armor more defense and weapons more damage, then yes they got shafted. If you mean that 50% to 60%+ of all rainbows being fighter base and that is not enough rainbow items, then maybe so. Could you elaborate a bit more on how you came to the conclusion that fighters get shafted?

The devs walk a fine line trying to keep the games balanced. And I for one think they are on the right track even when I don't agree with some of the changes they make. And while I have yet to play a fighter type toon, that is only due to a long standing personal preference for mages. I'm sue I will get around to using one sooner or later though.

So they get higher AR, what does that do against magic damage?

What does that do against a ranger with high agility?

Along with that nice high AR, they get -12%, -3%, -3%, -3%, -3% movement rate on the body, gloves, helm, boots, shoulders. So they are moving at a rate of -24%. Now mages on the other hand get +movement on their armor. So yea, we get high AR which is arguably worthless in pvp, and our reward is to move as slow as a snail.

Lets move to attribute distribution. A mage only need endurance and intelligence. A ranger only needs agility and endurance. A fighter on the other hand needs str for damage, agility for hit chance, endurance for hit points, and some int for styles such as holy roller, soul rend, cleave, etc.

So all said and done, a fighter has high armor, which makes him run super slow. A high armor rating which only helps against other melee, and crit rangers. He has to choose to either gimp his strength or endurance, to either do damage or else have more hit points.

You may be saying things like, 'what about gym freak' or 'what about this ability' or 'that ability'. Well a mage can also get gym freak and average bmi, which most of the pvp mages do get. So chances are a mage or ranger would have more hit points than a fighter. Also, why should a fighter be forced to fill 1/2 of their skill bar up with abilites just to hit par?

We can also go into the fact that if a fighter uses holy roller and misses, the cool down timer is still triggered and he must wait again to use it. If the target is moving when you try to use holy roller, chances are you will miss. Holy roller, smack down, rightous stomp, and brutalize don't stack and if one of them has been done to the target, the other will be resisted.

Without cleave or some other INT/mana reliant ability, a fighter is piss poor at killing fodder.

I am sure other people can add to the list, but this is just what I thought of off of the top of my head.

I see many of these arguments throughout the boards and even in game. What it all boils down to is quite simple.

Each class has a weakness, on purpose, for a reason. What is the use of classes if the fighters have the magic defense and ability of mages? Mages, then should have the strength and hit points of a fighter, etc, etc.

Classes have weaknesses on purpose. One should not choose a class based on "coolness" or what have you. Each class is geared to a specific fighting style (play style), and thus opens challenges to any player that chooses any class.

It is easy to say things such as that from outside the experience. Try to play a fighter, deal with the issues first hand, and then try to shrug them off as a 'class' balancing act.

Re: Fastest Solo Xp? [Re: #44946]
#44972 - 01/20/08 12:46 AM

1. Fighters have considerably higher DR than other classes. This does a lot to shrug off blows from Rangers and other Fighters. True, Mages are unaffected by this, and Rangers usually have high ARs to deal with this, but bear in mind this: Mages and Rangers are even worse than Fighters at blocking attacks. Significantly worse. Also, against a Mage you can use resistances. The Mage cannot do the same, since there is no such thing as "physical resistance" except for defense ratings and block chances, which a Mage cannot get.

2. Oh yes, Fighters move quite slowly and Mages have the ability to run all over the place. So what? Shadow Bolt, the most powerful Mage Bolt Spell, has a short range that you can easily transverse using holy Roller. A Mage's long range ability: Fire Bolt: is extremely easy to avoid. A decent Fighter can evade bolts while closing in on a Mage, minimising damage. Besides, there are skills such as Teleport and Spirit of the Hare which will serve you well when closing in on Mages. True, a Mage can do the same, but if you have already closed in and is in the Mage's face, usually he or she is no longer able to escape. A Fighter has a huge array of fast cooldown stunners, which will tend to interrupt most of the Mage's attempts to escape.

3. A Fighter does need more attributes to take care of, but that is irrelevant. You cannot prove that hampers a Fighter's ability to be effective, since they have other advantages.

4. I think you would find most good Fighters choose END over STR. Why? Because once you are in up close and personal to a Ranger or Mage, he or she is dead. A Fighter can (usually) kill Mages or Rangers faster than themselves being killed, using their superior DPS and HP to crush their opponent. Plus, they can stun every few seconds, something neither a Ranger nor a Mage can do. Then there are spells like Fear of Gosh...

5. A Mage or Ranger, more END than a Fighter? I think you need to realise that Fighter Armour usually give superior END bonuses. It isn't all about using Skills and Stat Distribution. Besides, many Mages also use Bookworm and Coach Potato, with negative END bonuses. You said, "why should a Fighter be forced to fill half of his skill bar to be competitive". That's just plain silly: if any PvPer has any useless skill that does not make him or her more competitive in PvP, then that PvPer isn't very smart at all.

6. Using Holy Roller and missing. You also might want to consider Holy Roller has a very short weapon-based cooldown? Besides, the solution is: don't trigger it unless you are in range. You don't know what the range of Holy Roller is? Well, that's skill for you. Yes, it is true stuns don't stack: that applies to every class, every stun. Um, so what? This is to prevent you stun-stun-stun-stun-stun and your opponent unable to do a thing. The stun resist only lasts for a few seconds. If you have already successfully stunned your opponent, then before he or she can get away from you, you can stun him or her again already. Don't know how to grasp how long stun resist lasts? Again, skill and practice.

Actually, I play as a fighter/ mage. I expect there to be some things that one class has that other classes do not. Otherwise, why have classes at all.

Taking your own advice in consideration... Have you tried to play a ranger, mage or hybrid? I am sure you would notice their strengths and weaknesses as well.
