How is this game doing?
#43267 - 01/06/08 02:24 AM |
I'd like to start off by saying that I really love Dungeon Runners - I've played a crap-ton of MMOs (both free and paid) in the past, and I like how Dungeon Runners is casual, fast-paced, and cheap/free. But how well is the game doing? Every time I log in, it seems like there aren't usually more than 150 people logged in on any server. Is that bad? I'm worried that the game I've sank so much time into is eventually going to be neglected and shut due to a lack of players. In comparison to other PlayNC titles like Guild Wars, the amount of people playing Dungeon Runners is really low... How long is Dungeon Runners going to keep running? I'm worried that one of my favorite games is on the edge of collapse, and I don't want to subscribe to a game that will die the minute I decide to put money into it. Sorry if this post seems a bit depressing or whatnot - but I want to spend my time in a game that I know will last. |

They're going to hire 6 more positions and they're making more money with the advertising that put in for non-members. Also, they are to release a new update within a week or so. Hardly the marks of a game in decline. Frankly, I see this game picking up some serious steam in the coming months. I think you'll find alot of people here who are refugees from other MMOs and are looking for something a little different (yet familiar). The casual nature of this game appeals to me since it's something I can play for a bit and then stop...something much harder to do with a more "intensive" MMO. -------------------- Mostly complete: Freesia - 7 days, 16 hours, 42 minutes to 100 Currently leveling up: Feisti - currently "dumb as rocks" Fletching - Ranger Edited by FSeries (01/06/08 02:55 AM) |

To put your money into it, its no problem, you can do it About Dungeon Runners.. it has a big background, and originally came as (I believe an RTS) Exarch, but the dev team "failed" and what happened I dont know, so I'll be carefull with that. NCSoft actually put another team into the.. then nameless game, for a very last time. And it went from good to better (And to an RPG.. too), and when I do a quick calculation I can say that NCSoft has no reason to be unhappy with the results. The free business model is sort of an experiment of NCSoft, as they're totally new to it, but once again.. now that DR is the test model.. they cant be unhappy. The main groups of people come (of what I see) still from interviews of magazines and sometimes on TV. It rolls also a bit on mouth to mouth advertisement (The classic one) but I think DR should really do more "advertisement" on a typical DR way. Of what I know there were already made "secret plans" for 2008, and it will be good ones, I am sure. So what you see here is a not-fully grown game, yet attracts really hardcore people, as well as quick players which is pretty unique. And also it is totally free, thats just scary isnt it! And then you can be Member.. and another hit.... its just 5 bucks a month Dont worry about DR being on the edge of the world, as its just getting better all the time.. you should've seen this game at the begin of the year.. its just a totally different game! Tho NCSoft had this idea as a test model for free gaming experiences blahblah, they (!) FOR SURE (!) wont push this game over the edge, I see good years coming for this game, serious good years. |

The game is doing well. We have funding for 2008, that much is certain. Now that people trying the game can generate revenue, we're willing to put some money into advertising. That money should begin burning away shortly. Did you know that the average play session is about 1 hour? The number of concurrent players is lower because of that. We've had roughly 20,000 people play the game over the past 2 weeks. Not too shabby... There are big plans for 2008. The best ones I can't talk about for a few months still. Oh, the suspense is killing me! Dungeon Runners is a growing game. The team is increasing from 11 to 17. We'll be pouring those resources into some major improvements and more content. Heck, we've doubled our design staff... It's a great time to be a Dungeon Runner! ![]() steve |
