A couple of game mechanics questions
#43152 - 01/04/08 09:39 PM |
1. How does melee / range deflection work? If you have 100% melee reflection, is it +100% of a base percentage? If so, what's the base. I'm certain that 100% melee reflection does NOT mean 100% of the melee hits gets blocked. 2. Shield block - I've seen ranges for blocking from 3% to 14%. I've equiped shields with 11% blocking and the blocking seems really noticeable. It does seem to block about 11% of incoming melee hits. If so, shields seem really, really good. You can even argue that a shield with good blocking equals or exceed high defense ratings. Anyways, hopefully someone knows. -------------------- Mostly complete: Freesia - 7 days, 16 hours, 42 minutes to 100 Currently leveling up: Feisti - currently "dumb as rocks" Fletching - Ranger |

Damage reflection doesn't reduce damage. The percentage that you reflect simply bounces back at the enemy to their detriment. If you have 100% reflection then 100 points of damage done to you is revisisted upon the attacker. Shields are really nice in some cases. You can get over 20% in block chance. Shields only protect against non-magical attacks, however. steve |

block chances will most probably work in the same way as critical hit and ranged attack speed does. like critical hit at maximum 500% of the base which is 3 so u get 18% small number but if u do the maths on average a ranger lands a crit hit every 2 seconds. so 20% block seems very minimal but in the long run will save ue behind a few times. -------------------- RangedRange - 730 pvp wins - level 10 <-- click for build... Quote: Yay! The big boss man himself answered. Thanks for the clarification Stephen! And shields do seem really nice. They provide absolute defense up to 20% of the time...for nonmagical attacks. In a sense then, shields are physical resists. -------------------- Mostly complete: Freesia - 7 days, 16 hours, 42 minutes to 100 Currently leveling up: Feisti - currently "dumb as rocks" Fletching - Ranger |

Quote: Nope. 20% is 20% of all nonmagical attacks if I'm reading Stephen's response right. Not 20% of a base but a flat 20%. -------------------- Mostly complete: Freesia - 7 days, 16 hours, 42 minutes to 100 Currently leveling up: Feisti - currently "dumb as rocks" Fletching - Ranger |

Quote: Ehmmm..... Isnt it that if you got 200% melee reflect, and get hit for 500 damage, the person it was targeted to gets 500 damage, but the one that made the damage gets it double in the face: 1000 damage? I believe that reflect does not reflect, but actually hits you, and hits it back then, so the word Reflecting is a bit bad to use, as you still do get hit by the X dmg. |
