Oh god... thats the third guy that flames poor Darth for his comment...

Speed and accuracy of the tranistion is the key and the trick. It takes practice, and therefore a user skill.

I would think that an automatic 'one button' transfer would make it too easy and unchallenging.

Well of course that is a skilled maneuver, but I personally dont think menuhandling-speed is a skill that should be to necessary in DR... A one-button switch would just simplify a clumsy system, though one that some have learned to master.

At the risk of sounding redundant:

This feature is available and widely useful in many other games I have played and I fully support it. I am in no way looking for an easier/lazier way to play (I rarely if ever plvl and I clear every lvl, farm for myself, etc)

As everyone else has said, it was a great feature added to Diablo II with its expansion and made gameplay even better, allowing you to plan (or at least somewhat) for a couple different situations in mind. Such as F-series had said, switching between 1h and shield or 2 1h, to a 2h; for mages with two diff weaps for diff bonuses...theres a lot of possibilities.

This feature doesnt necessarily make your char any more powerful or better since you still need to balance what it is youre trying to do (dps, skill/spell effects, etc) with weapon choice. You dont really use cleave with a 1h, and youre not going to use 1h swivel arm action when your 2h is equipped for example. And as for just having extra backpack space, its not that much more - you get to carry 2 more 1h weaps or 1 more 2h xbow, etc (as you cant put boots, helm, etc in your hand - this feature is JUST for weapons not a whole gear set - as with macros for WoW, of which I dont necessarily support for aforementioned pvp reasons). Its perfectly normal for players to switch out AT LEAST weapons that they carry on their person while playing to check effect or for mob/or single boss encounter.

Plus, cmon...how many suits of plate can you REALLY carry in a backpack...lol

I support this idea and think its one of the best we've seen in a few weeks - I was talking about it in game the other day with a few ppl who used to play diablo II.

So, just to be clear if i havent been, I only support the idea of weapon switching as in diabloII, not total gear switching. I can definitely throw my xbow over my back while stowing my shortswords at my waist...lol

I hate to say it darth, I agree with you on a lot of things, but I guess not this one

Im all for this, it definately would make it easier to play a fighter/ranger character.

I had not thought of this on the PvP side of things, There I could actually see the point. However this would help mages mostly as mages can do shadow / ice / fire whereas rangers are for the most part restricted to poison, fighters by the same token are mostly divine.

As I said I was looking at this for use in PvE (As I think it was intended), I'm sorry but the PvE game is so slow are you ever going to be in a huge rush to swap out weapons?

In a boss fight maybe -or HDoL- but the way PvE is you have a build that resists the dungeon's damage type and enhances your damage type, also balancing out your stats...

My main point is that PvE is 7 levels of the same thing, no change, sure you might have another set of gear for the boss but you really cant tely to town for that?

also quickly switching weapons without thinking could leave a fighter with a all strength weapon set swinging at air.

Sorry, just seems like a pointless feature to me.

Well I think at least two people before have mentioned the good sides, but i'll say them again, just in case.

1. More inventory space.

2. Fighters: 1h+shield vs. 2h. More damage vs more def. Even though the dungeons are rather similar, they do get tougher farther down, and so does the need for extra def.

3. Testing out builds. Going against a tough boss, you might want to try out a special build, or two, which you can switch between easily and without the extra weapons taking inventory space.

4. As I and others mentioned earlier, there are several new skill combos available if the switch is instant. For example, a mage can use some fighter skills wich require melee weapons. Maybe not super-useful, but still a nice possibility to enhance the number of good builds possible.

BTW, I want to stress that I do not think you should be able to switch armor, nor skill-bars. Just the weapons.

BTW2, Great Idea: How about the weapons that are in your "alternate" slots, shows up on the characters back. When you switch, your character reaches up, and takes the weapons from behind, and puts your primary weapons on the back instead. Cool...

u are aware that if tihs was to happen there wud be alot more people in pvp trying to use the wepon exploit. ( i wouldnt call it exploit just a bad excuse if sum 1 loses) but this wud make this very easy to do and therefore killing PvP although if everyone had the ability to do so without needing any skill or tactic that wud mean that there wud be nothing to complain about.

Well, making an exploit easier isn't really an argument. The devs already knows about it, and they decide if it's a bug or a feature. Removing that would be much higher a priority than adding weaponswitch, if they want to remove it.

BTW, could anyone quickly explain what this "exploit" is about?

/shrug. Different strokes for different folks, I guess. I'd see a use for it but have and can live without it. If they put it in, great. If not, well, I'm not leaving the game over it; like you said, it's not like I really switch weapons that much. In D2, I only really used it on my paladin to switch between a bow (I was a Bowadin or Ranger, if you prefer) and a Sword and Shield based on if I was fighting a boss or not.

Ultimately, it's not us that gets to decide, so either the devs have seen sense in one side of the discussion or the other and decided to or decided not to implement this based on that or the alignment of the planets, stars or whatever they use to decide these things.

Agreed. If there's a bug with the idea of weapon switching, assuming the devs consider it a bug (I don't follow the PvP boards, so I don't know what they've said about this), it should be fixed and not used as an excuse to hold this or any feature back, assuming the devs are considering implementing it.

If it can't be handled with normal coding (and I'd think it could), maybe the fix is to prevent the ability to access your inventory during a match. I'd hate to think that would be a "fix" and it seems horribly unfair, but if that's what it takes to get this into the PvE world, I'm fine with that (but I'm also a professed non-PvP'er, so I'm biased ).

The "exploit" they are talking about is currently abuzz in pvp about being able to switch weapons/gear in pvp during a fight to change your resistances/bonuses/stats and thus augmenting your char hp, dmg, mana during a fight as some see as "unfair" and should be removed to make the pvp game more "fair". It is a tactic used by many, and despised by the other "many," so, lol it is a very touchy subject with a few people (and drats, now we've inadvertantly brought it into this thread too...NOOOOOOOOOOO) lol
