"Standing In Person Thing"
#42306 - 12/26/07 07:21 AM

I've noticed that if a Fighter stands in the body of a Mage, the Fighter can still hit the Mage, but Mage spells can no longer hit the Fighter. You can't really run away from it either, since there's the "monster molasses" speed debuff. I've seen some rather imbalanced encounters involving this thing, and I really don't think Mages should be forced to Kite. Is this meant to be, or is it a glitch?

It is a known tactic, and is really needed IMO. Mages can do scary much damage, maybe 3 to 4k dmg with shadow bolt or ice shards with a speed of .33, that means that mages can do LOADS of damage to a single target too. It is not more then a tactic to stand in a mage and let the shadow bolt curve while not reaching yourself.

Not a glitch, just some advantage vs a mage. If this tactic will be nerfed, I am sure mages will be really overpowered again, expecially the FULL +dps +int +% dmg ones, with the level of gear same as their own level.

But i can't find a counter for this tactic, except to kite and not get caught. Once someone stands in you its hard to get away to be able to hit your enemy. I mean, using Blue Screen already has the hidden danger of burning away all your mana before you can finish your enemy...

It's a cheap old technique used against mages. I think it has to do with the collision detection of projectile spells. Fighters and rangers can both use this when fighting mages and continue to hit the mage while the mage spells just fly off. I'm not sure why they don't change it so spells can hit your opponent when they stand in you. If they made characters solid, then you could get body blocked in a corner by big melee characters. This tactic wasn't recently introduced to balance the other classes versus mages in pvp so I don't know why LR says it's needed or else mages will be overpowered again. One thread, he's saying fighters are overpowered. Now, if we can find a thread that he says rangers are overpowered then that'll make all the classes balanced to him. ROFL

Sharingan, you can make a joke about me fine, but this is like im being laughed at and that is quite immature and uncool. I say IF they nerf it, and I already gave a reason for that. Fighters are overpowered when you look at the 2H grandma speed bows/guns the max for like The Judge is 1555 base damage, while a fighter 2H can have well over 2500 base damage. As the boosts of damage is all determined by the amount of % AND the base damage, then it may be a bit unfair.

Again: Please contribute to things and give your thoughts, thats what a forum all about and thats why I like it here. There are few people like you saying such things, because its not cool, isnt very helpfull and after all is everything but what you arent are. Which means I am helpfull and you arent.

Next time pick on someone else, as I am not the right person to do so.

LR, I am giving you a pile of salt. This way, whenever someone says something you take offense to, you may pick some up and just take it with a grain of salt.

Okay... anyways, my question now is that the tactic, once used, is hard to shrug off, and it basically forces you to kite, which I'd rather not do non-stop. If disallowing this tactic makes mages overpowered (which I do not believe to be true... while as a Mage I do find myself having more dps than most people, there is the problem of Blue Screen draining your mana away very, very quickly, and more often than not I find myself without mana when that one extra shadow bolt will finish the person off...), then allowing it definitely makes them underpowered.
