Is that it?
#41127 - 12/13/07 10:45 AM |
I downloaded Dungeon Runner when it first came out and have come back to play after Chunk 2. I don't mind the ads. I usually don't even notice the bar at the top. I enjoy how my character can wear some better items now. But I still have to ask the question. Is that it? I'm level 8 currently, and there are 2 places where I can train. 2. I've run the first dungeon about 20 times now, and it's very boring. The entire game is so repetitious, and I don't know how people stand to run the same dungeon over and over again. There is no outside world. No place to explore, and the enemies are just repeated all over the place. I understand the game is free and I get what I paid for, but I don't even understand how this constitutes as a MMO. It's not massive at all. Servers only hold around 200 people, there is no world to explore, and there are very few dungeons. I don't mean to trash the game or pick on those who play it. I just am confused and would like to know why people still play this game. Do they not get bored after their 200th run of the same dungeon? Do they not long to get out of the box and explore an area free of walls or buildings? Please enlighten me. |

There are many dungeons to explore. Over 100 levels of dungeon running goodness to be had. Not to mention PvP. If you like fun combat and loot gathering, this is the "MMO" for you. If you want to run around forests looking for mushrooms and killing bears... not so much. ![]() steve |

Actually, Dungeon Runners is the only online game I can stand, all the other big named games are way too time consuming and become more of a chor rather than fun, whereas Dungeon Runners is really easy to just jump into when you want to, I don't even really look at Dungeon Runners as a MMO, I see it as an online Dungeon Crawler, which it basically is .I only play Dungeon Runners maybe 3 times a week on an evening with my mate, we're both around level 22 and we haven't had to re-run dungeons yet, but we enjoy playing the Terror-Dome so we'll probably keep playing through that till our characters turn about level 25. My advise would be not to play the game 24:7, if you play the game in small doses like me and my friend do, about an hour or so 2 or 3 nights a week the game always keeps your attention. |

Though I agree it could use some more dungeon tilesets you have to admit this combat system is a lot better than the 1-10 keyspam mmorpg are. Where aiming and dodging ranged attack is possible, where strategys important and a bot cant play better than a person, and where you fight more than a handfull of enemies at once. Anyways didnt they hire 6 more people, what are there positions? Some of them wouldnt be graphics artists would they? Edited by tappa (12/14/07 04:44 AM) |

I am shocked at some of the responses I got. I'm sorry people feel that any person that doesn't adore the game as much as they do must be trolls. Because that isn't what I am. I am a person who really had questions. 100 levels of dungeons? So that's like 10 actual dungeons with 10+ levels each? I know the first dungeon only has like 3-5 levels so the harder dungeons must get more levels, right? I might be wrong with the 10 actual dungeons thing, so please correct me if I am. I just read that on this forum. If it is true, 10 dungeons for an entire game is not much at all. Add in that I'm only level 8 and the only dungeons I can go to is the beginning one and the one that starts with A (can't remember exactly). The weapons are cute, and I enjoy how one aspect of playing the game is being able to organize your inventory correctly and choose which items to keep while going through a dungeon. This isn't like all the other MMOs, I understand this. Dungeon Runner is about just running Dungeons. That is why there aren't huge lands to explore and stuff. But I keep running into the same issue time and time again. If this game is just about running dungeons, why not have more dungeons? When I get level 10, will there be more dungeons other than the beginning and Algeron (just remembered it now)? I'm thinking not. When does the next dungeon come around for me to play? When I'm level 20? Level 30? And I do truly wonder how people don't get bored of running the same dungeon over and over again. I wonder all this because it seems like this whole game is nothing but grinding levels while exploring the same 10 dungeons over and over again. Did Pack 2 bring new Dungeons to the game that I am missing? Are there other cities I can get to at level 8 that I haven't found? Is there a whole other game I am missing here? Or have I seen everything I am going to see until I reach level 20? Because if that is true, then I probably won't play the game again. This isn't about me threatening the game with my loss of membership, so don't try to say that. It's me wondering how this can be called a complete game when it only has a fraction of the content that any other MMO on the market has. I can't complain, since I don't pay anything to play the game, but I definitely can choose not to waste my time grinding to level 20 just to get to a new dungeon just to grind that dungeon another 20 times to get to the next one. Again, I mean no disrespect to the creators of this game. I feel this game has so much potential to be up there with WoW and other games, but I think the content is lacking greatly. |

Sometimes we all have to agree to disagree, because when it comes to personal tastes, everyone is going to have differing opinions. It isn't a matter of right or wrong. When you start off putting people in a position where they have to defend their opinions, people will generally refer to that as trolling - whether that was the intention or not. I wouldn't worry about why other people like the game. If you decide DR isn't for you, we truly hope you find the game that is. We wouldn't like it, but we'd understand. That's what is so great about video games - there is variety out there, where there is something for everyone. We can talk about game functions and such, but let's not start up a discussion where we decide which opinion is better. Side with caution. -------------------- "Always keep your words soft and sweet in case you have to eat them" Crickette Dungeon Runners Community Manager |

Part of my posts are questions. Are there only 10 dungeons in the game? Is there any places that I can explore at level 8? I'm seriously wondering that. |

There are 100 character levels, not dungeon levels. Here's a link to a map: Linky... This game isn't trying to be WoW or any other full-fledged MMO. It's a dungeon crawling hack-n-slash, basically an updated, funnier version (NPCs, item names and quests, for example) of Diablo. If you like it, great. If not, hopefully you find what you're looking for. Click the "Read my interview with Mark" link in my sig and that'll give you a good idea of what's coming in the next year. -------------------- /twitch (TM) |

at level 8 your choices are limited there is the Dew valley and algernon. Why? because the dudgeons in this game are to a degree level based......meaning that if you aren't a high enough level you will die in them . If you want to know what all the dudgeons are , search is your friend JoeB has made a wonderful map of everything and posted it her on the forums for everyone's use. If you are looking for anything but dungeon running, killing monsters and gaining loot you are in the wrong game, for that is all there is. there isnt any character development that isn't about getting stronger, faster more able to kill things, there are no time wasters like other mmo's have. Our dungeons are there and work well , would we like more sure, we will get more tooo. Like it or leave it that is your choice. -------------------- Ghad. If I count correct and count boss lairs with it, we got around 160 dungeon levels. Quote: I think people might see you as a troll because you wrote this: Quote: Taken in context of the rest of your original post, someone might infer that you question the perceptions of the players that do enjoy the game. One might even conclude that you think the players are not very smart or are playing a dumb boring game. If you've run Dew Valley 20 times then you're not getting the full experience. Dew Valley is a noob dungeon. Move on to Algernon. Quick! What purpose is there in coming to the official site for this game and calling the game boring? What do you hope to accomplish? It could be that you're looking for "enlightenment". But, since you've already decided the game is boring and repetitive, that doesn't seem likely. Indeed, it seems like you may be trying to irk folks with negative comments about the game. But, in case you're really looking for enlightenment, let me take a stab at it. Why I play Dungeon Runners I'm the lead developer for the game and I pay for my own membership. I have over 200 hours in the game so far on my mage and am still loving it. Why? Because I love killing monsters. I particularly love killing lots and lots of monsters. I also love getting loot. I particularly love getting lots and lots of loot. Combine the two and I'm in heaven. I also love playing with the various skills to get a good build. There are over 60 skills that you can mix and match to create a wide variety of killing builds. That's just plain fun for me. I also love PvP! Smashing the skulls of my fellow players is just plain fun. I currently have 256 PvP wins. Oh, boy, that's some good stuff. ![]() I also like the very limited downtime. There's no messing around in this game. You get in, have fun and get out. I have over 1000 hours invested in World of Warcraft and understand what they offer. Dungeon Runners is the polar opposite of that game. No waiting, no BS, just fun monster killing and loot grabbing! In my 16 years as a professional game developer, this is the first game I've worked on that I'm addicted to. ![]() steve |

I asked a question in the very beginning. Why do you still play this game. I've been criticized and been called a troll. And not until right now has someone actually answered my question. Thank you for giving your thoughts on the question. I'm still surprised how defensive people can get when it comes to something they like. Just because I might find it boring (I'm not saying I do) doesn't mean I am attacking it. Troll or not, there is some low level of respect people should have for each other. Respect enough to not post if you didn't have anything nice to say. It's sad that many people become the judge, jury, and executioner after reading one post. I've had a few of my questions answered. There are only 2 dungeons to explore at my level. I did try Algernon, but the first mob almost killed me and I felt I was just too weak to be there. This coming from having no problem whatsoever level1-7 in the beginning dungeon. I've heard of people being able to solo things. Why can't I solo Algernon level 1? I have good armor, and have allocated my skills well (IMHO). My purpose wasn't to come onto here and call the game boring. If I were a troll, why would I keep posting? Don't trolls just spam and leave? If I didn't care about the game, why would I post in the first place? Like I said, I love the humor in the game, and love the respec'ing aspect of it and the inventories. I just would like to see more options of dungeons throughout the early part of the game. I think this is true with any MMO that the highest group of players in a game are those of lower levels. And I feel if you don't please the lower level "casual" players early on, they won't come back to become higher level more passionate players. On the ads subject, I don't mind them. I do mind being taken out of the game when I click on one by accident and have to close my internet browser and pull up the game again. I'd still love to hear from other players why this play this game. What they find fun in this game, and why they might not find this game too repetitive. |
