$5 a month buys you: more bank space, member pots, and NO WAITING 10-15 SECONDS EVERY TIME YOU DIE OR ZONE

also; finding that perfect rb and then seeing 'membership required'...

exactly, if you can afford $5/mo then by all means do! The ads are great for us free players, but it's not worth downgrading because you're ticked at us getting good stuff :}

Lol you people really think I will downgrade to nonmember? Even if nonmembers have the same as members, I still pay to support to devs, They deserve it. I dont need extra things in return for a small gift once a month. Now that I do, I dont mind that either.. actually..

i agree with LR as $5 a month is nickels to me.. My gripe is what i said in the first post.

I stand firmly that nonmembers should have 0% of rbws or atleast 5% at best not 25%. THey get purples and yellows, with bank space. Frigg while you at why dont you give keys to a brand new hummer as well.

If the devs werent so cool and friendly i would gave up my membership as nonmembers are basically members now.

That is my 2cents and i am going to mix me up a hefty bloody mary now

Ah clamm come on, see the positive thing, and be happy for other people that maybe cant effort it, or.... want everything free afcourse. But thats not the point, you still get good benefits being a member. Owh and I just downgraded, wheres the Hummers Keys?

This was a tough decision for us as well. Frankly speaking, this all comes down to which approach will bring the company the most money...

Previous to the in-game ads, most free players either upgraded to pay accounts or they quit in disgust. Only the most hardcore free players stuck around for any length of time. This was by design.

Once we added the ads, we needed to make the free player experience more compelling. We no longer desired to shame or bully the player into paying for the game. That's because the more ads a player sees, the more money we make.

Yeah, that's right... advertisers pay us based on impressions. More ads viewed means more money for us. Based on our current projections, moderate free players may generate more revenue for us than $5 members! Hardcore free players will definitely make more money for the company...

Build 100 (on the PTS now) fixes a timing issue that's stopped us from running more than one ad campaign. Once this fix goes live (tomorrow morning), we'll be able to turn on a bunch more ads. Yay, not just shoes anymore...

The similarity in revenue potential between members and ad-subsidized free players makes us take a moment to reflect. To maximize revenue, we needed to bring the free player closer to membership status.

However, I still believe that membership is valuable. The improved potion quality and stacking is handy. More bank space is really nice. And 100% access to rare loot is a great time saver. Free players will have to spend, on average, four times longer than members to find loot drops they like and can use.

I realize that this similarity between free players and members may cause some members to revert to free. That's okay by me. Heck, if you can get the same fun from the game for free (and don't mind ads) then it's a win for everyone!

And.... no Hummer?

But anyway, if ads can make even more money.. why dont quit membership at all? We do you people a pleasure to get cash for you, by ads or by membership, only thing is that the membership is our own money, the ads arent. As I said why dont quit membership then? Will make more money and less costs for us. (Not wanting to say I like it the cheap way, just wondering)

Sweet, no more ugly basketball shoe comercials anymore! (Tell me those shoes aren't for basketball players, I dare you lol...) I'm fine with the changes, heck I would stick around no matter what. Sometimes though I take long breaks, this game will always be in my heart like anarchy online will. I love the game, they dont shove pvp down your throat, the experience is good, what more can you ask for?

I assume you mean why don't we get rid of the idea of membership altogether and let the game be totally ad-based?

Well, the main reason is that I'm no fan of ads. I believe there are other people in the world that share that sentiment. Providing membership access that (at the minimum) removes ads will ensure that such folks won't run for the hills.

However, enhancing the free game with ads lets folks try the full game for free. Then, if they like it and don't want ads, they can upgrade.

It's about choices and freedom, sir!

ok stephen i heard ya and respect what you said. Now listen to what i have to say please.

I can lvl up to 100 have a ton of friends who has all the rbws a lvl 100 person could wish for. Put them on my nonmember account and now she is like a member.

I also understand the ads needed to be a part of the game you just hired 3 more people and to pay those salarys our measly $5 wont cut it.

I will give you an example cause he is the only one i know of this lvl and i will and i am sure everyone else will as well. Stemac a lvl 100 nonmeber will be given rbws that are the same as what clamm has who spent MONTHS farming for in a blink of a eye.

This is no knock on stemac as he is a good person and we all will help him with rbws cause its allowed.

YOu still havent fixed that low lvl ranger hp boost yet as now others are doing it and its getting out of control for the last time. If you can honestly explain to me why a lvl 100 mage with great gear cant beat a lvl 15 nonmeber ranger.

THis is seperate fromn the lvl 16 nonmember ranger i talked about in another post.

Stepehn i also didnt like the fact that you said basically that nonmembers who get the ads means more then paying customers. If the goal is to make money and not a good game then you well on the way of that, i thougth this game was mostly player based not money.

I understand having 1 paid costumer isnt as much as said 10 new players with the ads, but honestly enough with the freebies and nerf that [censored].

I guess because a few people dont like it we need to take away all the new non-member perks and get rid of ads? Not going to happen. Live with the changes or move on it really is as simple as that. Cancel your membership and play it as a nonmember and make Stephen more money running your multiple mules at once. Respect alot of what you contribute to the boards Clamm but your multiple threads complaining about the patch across almost every section of the forum is getting absurd. Also shouldnt this thread really be moved to the general section since it obviously is not about a "bug" but something you dont like about the game.

Clamm:

Please don't misunderstand me. I didn't mean to come across as saying that free players are more important than members. Both are equally important to the game.

What I said was that, with advertising, free guests have the potential to generate more money than $5 members. Hardcore free players have the potential to generate way more.

I totally understand your point about the mythic item giveaways. We implemented the "10 minute" soulbinding mechanic to help keep rare items from changing hands forever. We also ensure that all mythics that come from King's Coin vendors are automatically soulbound. This keeps the only trade-able mythics as random drops.

Frankly, if someone has unbound mythics sitting in their bank and wants to give them away, I think that's awesome. That player (or players) had to farm them just like everyone else. Their items are theirs and I think they should be allowed to do whatever they want with them...

I'm going to state the obvious: As a business we need to be profitable. We have to maximize revenue to be profitable. Dungeon Runners is one of the best free games around. With ads, we can generate revenue from this fact. Revenue is good. It only makes sense to give more of the game to these revenue-generating customers. Sure, they may not be paying out of pocket... but someone is paying for them. Money is money is money!

Dungeon Runners is growing. We're hiring six more people in 2008. For those keeping score, that will bring the internal development team up to 17! Oh, my, the things we're gonna accomplish...

Some of the things we trying to squeeze into 2008:

1. More dungeons, monsters, quests and skills (summoners anyone?).
2. Posse support (a.k.a. guilds).
3. Player housing (perhaps even posee housing).
4. Item crafting.
5. Item sets and enchantments.
6. "Epic" encounters suitable for group and high-level play.
7. Total replacement of the graphics engine (better lighting, shadows and improved performance).
8. Publicly accessible XML data feed for accessing character data (inventory, skills, stats, accomplishments).

And there's so much more! It's gonna be a great year!

Wow nice, with all these new changes at least try to retain some identity with dungeon runners and not copy other games/lore. Id hate for dwarves, orcs, fairies, and elves to be added simply to feed off of other games. The uniqueness is what has makes me hate mythos and love dungeon runners. Whiskers, giant fire blobs, and pukers ftw.

Ed) Oh ya with the new engine they're implementing are they gonna add hit detection? I Was wondering if that would be a good thing or not for DR.

Personally, I do find that the devs are being quite generous in what they are giving free players, but I kind of like it: not only because I, personally, am I free player, but also because DR is basically the first game I've ever seen to live up to its declarations: that it is a free game. Many self-proclaimed free games have severe limitations on free players that basically make the game unplayable at a certain point: it isn't a free game at all, just a pay to play game with a free trial.

However, I expect there will be future content that will be members only. No doubt about that.

i can honestly say i got about 1 and 1/2 pages full of lvl high lvl rbws that any nonmember can use. I wont say the names of the others but i know of people with 3 pages full atleast of t3 rbws that nonmembes can use.

Anson i apologize for last night as i was flipping mad. Another thing i noticed was that ranger exploit doesnt seem to work if they are grouped.

HELLZ YEA!!!!! That is going to be AWESOME!!!!!
My XML trigger fingers itch sooooo bad!

Stephen do you know if the Full UI will be open? So it will be possible to design our own UI? IE: custom UI windows, ability to move UI items around on the screen, change status of UI items examle: Inv slots (w/o armor items) could be displayed on screen with a toggle (close button)

As some know I used to play EQ a while back and it's UI was XML and open and I customized it to the teeth, it was very fun and I enjoyed playing it more knowing I had designed the look of the UI myself.

This is very exciting, as well as Guilds Woot! and the possiblity of Guild Halls!!

It really sounds cool, lets begin with that. Still I am not very happy with one thing.

That part. Cinder armor used to be without soulbound, if this was a bug ok. But I believe it wasnt, and now every nonmember rainbow will get soulbound inclusive cinder. And member Cinder armor will be still with no soulbound? Because if thats the case I have reason to be unhappy because all of the cinder pre-patch dropped, is not soulbound because it went nonmember.

hmm. I feel I should be more specific.

I'm talking about altering the User Interface, nothing having to do with gameplay content, only the way the screen looks.

Would we be able to alter UI with examples like:
Change the size, orientation, background colors, of the Inventory window (or any window)
or
Change the Skill bar to be in a grid pattern or in a Vertical row instead of a horizontal row.
or
be able to create a window that just showes your "bag space" (Looted items / pots / gold)

I understand that this would be specific to every toon, it would have to be. And located on your harddrive, but we could post them on some website and if others liked them they could download and use them.

I know of a few sites that have this type of environment for another game, feel free to PM me if you would like links to them. They would be a good visual example.

No. The effort to make the UI easily alterable is... large, and not something that could happen quickly if it happened at all. Right now, the only thing we are doing with XML is not at all related to the game client, but is live game information that will be available on the web.

Owh ripper that might be a nice feature yes. Like an image where your stats are posted in, you can put it in your signature on the forums, or throw around with it proudly everywhere

AND (!!!) It also promotes DR because when people see it on other forums they wonder what it is, and you might get more players.
Beautifull thinking, really good
