More Mage Items
#40258 - 12/06/07 07:49 PM

I just recently started playing this game and I always like mage classes since they are usually very gear unreliant for starting up and usually have some nice abilities like teleport etc. When I became a member I realized then that 90% of the drops were not for the mage class and like 95% of rainbow items are for fighter or rangers. This really makes me think twice about continuing playing as the only mage RB items I've seen so far are like 45+ and that takes along time to get to. I don't wanna have to invest massive time to get up to that lvl just to start enjoying the benefit of rainbow items.

1) It's a matter of perception. Mage items drop just as much as fighter and ranger items do: The Prevalence of Ranged Item Drops

2) Rainbows can be as low as level 10 and the drops are random. The fact that you haven't seen any doesn't mean the don't exist. There are several nice mage rainbows.

3) The earliest you qualify for a rainbow drop is level 15. Even then, rainbows are random (like all other loot). Because they're random, the chance that you can actually use a rainbow you find, regardless of level, is relatively small. While rainbows can drop from any mob that drops loot, most players find them by farming bosses (bosses have a higher chance of dropping rainbows) or running HDoL (there's a higher chance for rainbow drops there, too).

Personally, I'd recommend that you just play the game and have fun. Rainbows aren't required for the fun and if you focus too much on "having" to have them, you'll miss out.

In build 99 (coming soon) Sam has all new inventory and will, in some cases, provide mythics for you. This means you can get sweet mythics with King's Coins! We also increased the stack size to 100 for King's Coins. These mythics aren't cheap...

No I know what your saying I know they are random, but out of the 100s of rainbow items I see linked in a days time I see maybe 5-10 mage items where as I see 30+different weapons for fighter and 30 different weapons for ranger. For the comment about Sam I was wondering if there is a specific method to be able to find him, I've talked to a few guys and they just say he's random but what kind of chance is it for him to appear; also when you say a new inventory do you mean you shop like you would in town except instead of gold you use kings coins or is it a gamble like with the normal kings coin vendors. For the fun factor as mentioned I find it fun when I am "powerful" at a low lvl and incinerating enemies at a ridiculous rate, I come from games like Diablo 2 and WoW. I like running dungeons/raids w/e u wanna call em for items but I want to do "Hell"(Insane for DRs) on my own with relative ease as I did in diablo 2.

P.S. Really more of a question than comment but for rainbow items such as "Sissrats staff with the crazy name" I've seen a lvl 50 one and a lvl 99 one. To get this staff do you have to kill Sissrat over and over and only he can drop that rainbow item or does every monster you kill have a chance.

I don't think you do know what I mean by random. Any mob that drops loot can drop any item. There's no spawn camping for any one specific item. You just have to be lucky unless somebody trades/gifts it to or you find it on one of the new mythic vendors. Forget what you see linked in /w chat...

Regarding Sam - he has a 25% chance to spawn on levels 4 - 7 of all dungeons after Algernon (excepting HDoL), unless that's changing in the new build.

Sam already has a very small chance of selling you a mythic. In the next patch though you will have the choice of getting only a mythic for a lot more KC's.

in all honesty there really isnt many good rbws for a mage. Most rbws for a mage are fire although a sweet set of purples is great. My lvl 100 only uses a select few rbws as most of her gear is purples.

I like to do alot of dmg and shadow to me is the best choice so i got a set of dreary gear with some rbws.. The rbws are a sissi staff, unholy grenade, and dark rings.

I would certainly like to see more mage mythics but I have to agree with Clamm that depending on what you are trying to do in game a good set of purple gear can be as good or better than mythics. I have a few rb's but my weapons are all purples, I prefer to run 1 handed and use a shield so I have a couple of Mermaid wands, one for ice and one for shadow. For shields I have a Valentines or Dreaded Brown Eye for the block chance and the damage reflection, but I also have had excellent purple shields as well. I have one Dark ring but haven't had a second one drop yet.

Well of course purples can be better than mythics, if there aren't that many mythics to select from then purples will have to fill the void. For example the siss staff I finally saw a couple of these linked but noticed they were all fire/ice, I dunno if thats intended or it just kept dropping with fire and ice.
