Forced grouping
#40151 - 12/05/07 02:55 AM

Does anyone think it would be a good idea to have special mobs in each dungeon that are impossible to solo. These mobs could really make the game more interesting and social. I just get tired of playing an MMO solo all the time.

It goes against the ethos of the game.

Which is that you can just dip in and run a dungeon.

Don't worry once you reach a certain level you start to get bugged with grouping requests.

For most players, that would be Abaddon above normal difficulty.

Dont think there should be forced gaming ... or that there ever will be. Given that it is completely against the casual gaming philosophy of the game. Now if you increase the difficulty slider that is a different story. It was put in for the more hardcore gamer who likes a challenge.

Cant really say that Abby would fall into this, maybe on insane but even that is doable with the right build.

HDoL is definately meant to be a grouped dungeon although you can solo it on extreme down without much difficulty. Clamm is right about HDoL on insane. Make sure you bring plenty of pots (100+) and dont be surprised if you still die.

Joe,
I think it has already happened .this last batch of errr adjustments, means mage's fighting a boss have even less of a chance now than before to be able to effectively beat one of the big guys. Even at level 100 with the new damage numbers and the nerfs to mage's taking on the boss's at HDOl 3 now becomes almost impossible..... What I am planning to do is to change to fighter for farming boss's and mage's for running dungeons......yeah it will cost in re spec fees but it is the only thing left

I didn't mean forced to group to progress through the game or level, but have bosses that have better than boss loot that are absolutely impossible to solo. Say a boss encounter that had a 1:10 rainbow drop-rate, but you need a full group to down him/her. It shouldn't have anything someone couldn't get solo, but it should make it faster to get them if you get a group together and work together.

Couldn't there be a dungeon where you have to be in a group? That would encourage people to make teams for running though, and would expand the depth of the game a bit.

I dont see it happening. Given that the devs have been very adament about keeping this game for the casual gamer and not a game that only the hardcore raiding fiends can go for. It is designed for 15-30 minute sessions. Having to find a group to run a dungeon does not fit into this philosophy. This is also one of the reasons that there are is not a healing/buff class in this game.
