Chunk #2 Ads - first impressions
#40038 - 12/03/07 05:31 PM

* On my widescreen laptop, the banner is very noticeable. From a user perspective, I'd prefer to see it on the bottom. From a marketing standpoint, however, I can see how it would be more effective at the top. It's not too difficult to train your self to center your eyes in the playable area, though.

* Was forced to see an ad before I even got to the character selection screen. Once a character was selected, I still had to wait for loading. From a usability standpoint, would be better to login directly to character selection then force the ad while loading into the game for the first time. Think about having to watch an ad before you've even created your first character? Not a good impression of the game.

*All of the ads, so far, are static. No video to watch. Stephen said they're coming, though. Need to see them to test properly

* Clicking on an ad, whether your in full screen or windowed mode, causes DR to lose focus. That's bad.

* The witty little sayings on the ads are funny.

Summary: I started a new character to test ads from scratch. All-in-all, the experience was very nice. I definitely think this will help retain free players.

No, they even got jokes in them. They have a nice skin and not [censored] gray stuff around it, and in overall I didnt even noticed it while playing. I find it really well done.

On my laptop with a widescreen I found the ad at the top quite intrusive. I kept trying to look under it.

When I used a normal screen it did not bother me.

And it was nice having the beautiful Sarah Morrison looking over me.

I have a widescreen laptop, too, which made the banner very disconcerting at first, but I eventually got used to it.

She looks like the rather attractive lady from 5th Element... mmmm Ms Jovovich If only all ads could be so pleasant to watch!
