DR and AR scaling
#39550 - 11/25/07 03:42 PM |
Details: Lvl 18 Paladin just got pwned by lvl 100 (Aswun). Doesn't bother me at all, had fun and learned some things. Noticed I was missing a ton, however. After chatting with Aswun, it became apparent that while my attack power and HP were scaled up to level 101, neither my Defense Rating nor my Attack Rating scaled up (at least according to the Character sheet). End result: He hit me lots, chopping through me like knife through hot butter and I lived up to my name of BiffWhiffle and missed a lot! This seems to be contradictory to the overall concept of balancing all characters to 101. Suggestion: Scale up AR and DR based on level in addition to HP and attack power. Question: Both AR and DR are based, in part, on attribute points (Agility and Strength, respectively), whereas elemental resists are based solely on gear points. Should gear be leveled up to it's level 101 equivalent? This would mean, for example, that I--as a level 18 fighter--would truly be level 101, with all points, attributes and gear for the duration of the battle. This would also mean that elemental resists would scale up, too, not just AR and DR. -------------------- ~Ripper Complainers ... Unite Newb/N00b (NSFW) Read my interview with Mark /twitch (TM) |

The short answer is that AR, DR and resists do "scale" in PvP. The long answer: When being physically attacked in PvP, the defender's DR is remapped into the level range of the attacker before being compared to their AR. When being magically attacked in PvP, the defender's resistance is remapped into the level range of the attacker. This all means that the AR, DR and resists are level appropriate in PvP -- even though the character sheet numbers don't show it. This could be made more clear by showing the remapped values at level 101. This implementation is a hold over from PvP 1.0. ![]() steve |

Great explanation, thanks! Now, the next question is whether or not the AR/DR are scaled based on estimated attribute points only or is gear leveled as well. This is an important distinction. What good is it being level 101 if your gear is still 20? -------------------- ~Ripper Complainers ... Unite Newb/N00b (NSFW) Read my interview with Mark /twitch (TM) |

Asw hits my lvl 100 mage just as hard as my 25, i basically have the same gear set up on both characters, he just hits extremely hard and basically no excaping him if he has the upper hand and try running away.. i cant answer you ?s about fighters however as i dont play one but figured i would give ya some insight on my 2 pvp mages.. and he is a smart player so if he knows he is going up against a fighter he would switch out other wards for divine and also buff that up once it pops.. lvl 18 fighter or anyone under lvl 90 going up against a lvl 100 is extremely difficult |

Quote: As a matter of fact, gear isn't looked at directly when converting you to your PvP level. All your primary attributes factor in to your derived attributes: damage, health, attack rating and defense rating. Looking at your derived attributes and comparing them to the maximum possible values for your level, we can determine how to remap you. So, having level 20 equipment as a level 20 means that you'll have level 101 equipment as a level 101. However, having level 20 equipment as a level 40 means that you'll have level 51 equipment as a level 101. Make sense? steve |

And what about level 102 gear, refered as t3, since we get 2 levels above and 5 levels under the level you are in drops... does that mean that I, fully equipped with level 102 gear, am scaled back to level 101, or keep it 102? -------------------- LegendRunner - level 100 Ace something The Townstons Wiki Archive! - Boss of TT Dont Feed The Trolls! Numerically, level "103" equipment becomes level "104" equipment in PvP. steve |
