I am confused
#39411 - 11/22/07 09:00 AM

According to the Chunk Post Level 1-Level 10 players are now being nerfed? Why ? Last upgrade it was said that by taking everyone to level 101.... everyone would have an equal shot.....that skill would be the over riding concept ......... now we are nerfing the lowest level of player........ seems to me there is a contradiction there..what is the problem?

Well I will try to be nice since its thanksgiving(thats for you Stephen . If you actually ever pvp'd you would know that level 1 characters can be twinked to beat all but the best of pvp'rs.
Thats a flaw in the system that is being fixed to prevent people from rolling a lvl 1 and coming in and owning 90% of the other players.

The defense rests your honor. I couldnt have written a post better to explain why people that dont pvp really dont understand.

Baby toons just scale better to level 101 than other levels. This was just an unintentional consequence of scaling characters to 101 in attempt to encourage additional PvP participation. Considering you can go from level 1 to 10 in a matter of minutes it shouldn't be a hindrance for individuals that want to PvP to spend a little time playing their toon.

There are not new players wanting to PvP that come here, create a toon and go PvP. The level 1s that are slaughtering the masses are experienced DR players that just want an advantage and have seized an opportunity. I am not faulting them, but I am glad to see DR is returning the balance to PvP.

Nice response Jay! And so gentle, even. I'm proud!

The problem with low-level players in PvP (level one players in particular) is a bit technical.

Level one players are given an advantage in the PvE game to help with early survivability. We don't want our beginning players to die a ton, so we give them quite a boost. Their health and damage is really good.

However, the starting ranger is particularly good. They have the best starting health in the game... which translates to really good health at level 101.

By itself, this isn't a problem. It's when low level players are "twinked" out with all yellow gear that it becomes a severe issue.

A level one Ranger with all yellow gear is one tough mother. It's very easy to have a high level character "twink" out your low level character for ya. This was an oversight in the original implementation that's been adjusted in Chunk 2.

The secondary issue is more psychological. When a level 100 gets owned by a level 1, they can react poorly. That was never our intention, so we fixed it.

I say there shouldn't be any pvp balancing, because everytime there is a balance system there are the few bunch of people who find a way to take advantage of it. I say it would be better off not balancing its because theres really no point being a level 100 when you can grind to 10 and be the equivalent. Also it would actually motivate people to go grind rather then being them usual selves sitting around complaining how 100's all they do is grind abby and have full mythic suits which is completely untrue.

Im going to have to disagree with this statement. Prior to creating my lev 1 character, I pvped only 20 or so times, so I never called myself an experienced player. Then I realized that I needed to play the games differently, as they are not the same game. I believe that playing specific characters for each game is necessary to be successful.

For myself, I just want to drive and have fun in the pvp. I find the pve section incredibly boring and a waste of my limited time.. so making the change that causes me to spend 250-400 hours prepping, rather than 40-60 hours, a bad call.

Additionally, I had not fathomed taking my higher level player to gather equipment for my lev 1.. I, and some others I know, were running through the dew forest and algernon opening chests and trying not to get killed or level up. Thanks to those more experienced lev 100s for opening my eyes.. additionally, I suspect that some of the 100s that have lower lev toons, do the same in order to twink themselves.

rainger you serious?? you seriously must be outside your mind if you think cause a lvl 1 or 5 is so strong... you dont have 400 pvp wins being so low lvl out of the blue..

and the only people you lose to or tie are people with better gear, skills, experience.. so dont PULL the [censored] card as i will call ya your renig
