Spirit of the Hare
#38853 - 11/13/07 03:45 PM

Folks are using this to resist slow effects from Unnerving Shout. The problem is that this is not what the skill is for, Light in the Loafers is. SoH should not be able to be used while slowed.

Btw - this isn't a poor me post. I had a great match against two rangers, each of whom had optimal gear and who worked very well with the other. I'm simply observing that using Spirit of the Hare to mitigate slow effects seems like an exploit.

Now...take this with a grain of salt, I suppose, considering I'm not a PvPer..but I thought I'd throw my opinion out there too. I realize that skills were made for certain uses (in both PvE & PvP), but I'm not sure that it's really an exploit to find another way to use the skill. They have essentially found two uses for a skill, which creatively eliminates having to switch skills. Perhaps now that you know of it, it will makes things more challenging and a better PvP experience?

I don't necessarily disagree with that. But, by the same token, it's player's utilization of skills that necessitates constant balancing and reworking. There is, and has always been in online games, debate over what's constitutes "strategy" vs. "exploitation". For now, it's a good strategy until it's "balanced", in which case it will have been proven to have been exploitive :P

This is not an exploit to me considering the fact that Light in the Loafers is a newly introduced skill and people have been using Spirit of the Hare previously to do this. People are going to use what skills they have already purchased, equipped, and ready to use on their toolbar. The two skills work differently. While under the effects of Unnerving Shout, if someone uses Spirit of the Hare, they are still slower than normally using SotH without any slow effects. Light in the Loafers, totally negates the slow effects so they can move at max normal speed.

Considering that Spirit of the Hare can be cancelled by an attack, should you be able to use Spirit of the Hare while you're already suffering from the effects of an attack? Maybe apply the same percent of failure to it that would be applied if you were attacked while using it?

ripper seems to me you tried this up against a fast runner like a mage.. with speed enhancements and hare it will still be hard to catch a running mage unless you hare behind him and keep him stunned

Nope, actually I was facing two rangers who popped Spirit of the Hare while slowed by Unnerving Shout. It basically negated the effect of shout and let them zip off faster than they would have been able to if they had used Light in the Loafers.

It's by design that Spirit of the Hare overrides slowing effects. Thankfully, you can equip it too and chase those running suckers down. Cause damage to interrupt the effect of Spirit of the Hare. Damage over time skills help a great deal there...
