Starting Class
#38611 - 11/09/07 08:11 AM

So, I've noticed that once inside the game, you can learn every skill from each trainer if you have the money and the level requirement. My question is this. Being I can buy all the skills, what is the point of having a different class selection at the beginning of the game. I mean, during character creation, it gives yo ua choice of mage, ranger or fighter. Is this just to give you a basic set of skills at the beginning to work with or are there other hidden bonus' from selecting a certain class. Anyone know?

It affects your starting skills and also your starting attribute distribution. Of course once in the game this can be changed using respec.

--------------------
JoeB - Level 100 - Back to a Fighter where he belongs
SirOldBottom - Level 49 - Ice Mage
Mearlin - Level 29 - Mage

So once in game, your starting class has no meaning whatsoever. I could make myself into any other class without losing any "hidden bonus".

For example, I make a Warrior.. Once in game I could make myself a mage without any loss of some hidden bonus from my original class I chose.

There is no "hidden" bonus given by your class. Your class is fully determined by your attribute points and skills used. If you are changing to mage though you will definately want to change your passive skills to the appropriate ones.

SirOldBottom - Level 49 - Ice Mage
Mearlin - Level 29 - Mage

Correct. The hidden bonuses aren't hidden... they are the passive skills you start with. If you are a fighter, you start with Gym Freak and Way of the Roo to enhance your general melee competence above and beyond what equipment can do. If you unequip those and instead buy and equip Bookworm and Mental Prowess, you've gained all the 'innate' advantages that you would have gotten starting as a mage. You can also equip more than two such passive skills.

For example: I start as a ranger and ended up like a mage. The only problem was the money and the items. If f.e you have a friend in the game so you could interchange items and you’ll have 3 characters for keeping items for every type of build then you’ll be able to switch from one build to another as you wish…till you’ll find the one that fits you the best.
That’s the beauty of this game…the freedom to do almost whatever you want and try almost whatevery you can think of.
