Combat Issues for Mages
#38429 - 11/05/07 06:10 AM |
I have noticed that on my Ranger when I click on a skill if I am to far away I will move automatically to the target and begin shooting. Also when the mob goes behind me if I target it my character will spin around and begin shooting the mobs. On the Mage this does not happen. I will be targeting a mob and if I am to far away I have to run up farther to get the skill to work. And if the mob is behind me even though I have it targeted I still am shooting in the other direction until I re-click the skill on the target several times. This needs to be the same as when the Rangers fight. Can it be fixed??? |

I just started a mage recently (level 19) I find this very distracting. Using your lightning you click the target and move to him automatically, but using shadow bolts or fire bolts you just shoot into the air if you are not close enough. I find myself chasing monsters around the screen a lot more than on my warrior. I don't know if it is a game stopping issue (like the broken Abyss Mill quest) but it makes me really prefer to play my warrior. |

I run into this problem many times. The situation is worse depending on the height of your perspective (usually less of a problem when seeing the battle from higher). I find that I have to constantly turn the camera around to make sure I am facing the creature to guarantee a direct hit. -------------------- World 7 Gelum - Level 60 Arcane Scout CrimsonMoon - Level 61 Pyromancer Thormageddon - Level 20 Brutish Barbarian 4/7/1 Rainbows 10/9/1 Books |

Spells should receive auto targetting just like rangers if you think about it, its a hgue dissadvantage when in PvP someone is runnign and half the time it simpossible to hit them. I myself would know about this very well because i'm a mage and pvp loads. -------------------- 100 Mage |

Quote: Actually, the way auto-targeting works makes auto-targeting a problem for many skills - you can only target those skills at your opponent's current location, and if they move out of the line of fire, the projectile doesn't follow. So those skills are very easy to dodge, if you know they're coming. For that reason, many Ranger skills are being updated in Chunk #2 to be position-targeted instead of auto-targeted. |

Yeah, we're adding the ability to aim all your projectiles -- even ranger ones. Better still, we've made it so that when you click on an enemy with your aimed skill, it automatically aims at the monster's feet for you. That way you can easily click "anywhere" on a target to shoot it. If you prefer the old way of targeting, just click the ground or hold SHIFT when clicking. Hooray! steve |

I still am a bit cloudy, so it works like diablo 2's aiming system after the patch? |

Aimed mage skills currently have no idea if you're clicking on an enemy or not. In fact, it's where you click on the ground that is the only thing that matters. This is why I suggest that you always aim your spells at your enemy's feet. This has caused all kinds of confusion in some of our players. Their spells seem to fire off in odd directions when they are clearly clicking on an enemy! The next build seeks to resolve this issue. When clicking on an enemy to fire mage skills, they will automatically aim at the chosen enemy's feet for you! In fact, you can now lock on to an enemy with mage skills just like you can with melee and ranged weapons. Just click and hold. Of course, you can always hold SHIFT down when clicking to aim at the ground again. steve |

This particular bug was why I did a respec on my mage to become a fighter. Now that the bug will be fixed, I can go back to my old mage self. Yay! |
