So what am I looking at on that naked video. Splitting the guards which is clever. And then going to a corner where Abaddon cant hurt you which would be in the exploit a bug catagory? Or his damage just that low? I know his AE is nasty which you found a spot he wont walk close enough to to AE. not sure about what he is shooting at you never noticed the dps on that.

Unforuntately, google's video compression greatly reduces the quality of the video.

I know of no places to avoid the AE damage and did not outrange his AE in either video. There are times when you can abort his AE damage and other times you get knocked back without damage, but if you are in range you either resist or your don't.

Just shot this morning for your pleasure ... no time to edit and I even had pots with me.

1) Great idea to spit up the guards!

2) It's not an exploit. He's still hitting her with his firebolt, but she's resisting most of the hits due to Fire Ward and Fire Resist. Also, it doesn't really matter where she stands, because his attack doesn't differ. You could be standing in melee range in the middle of the zone and his attacks will only ever be to shoot fireball and use his meteors.

All-in-all, it's an excellent strategy, but I also think it will force additional changes to Abaddon in order to balance the risk Vs. reward. Perhaps giving him a melee attack?

FYI - I tried this fully geared out at level 80 with pots on Insane and could only get him down to about 10% before my resist wore off and he killed me.

On insane if can be difficult to do enough damage in the 60 seconds before Fire Resist wears off. As a warrior I usually can do it but not every time. As a full crit ranger I averaged about 55-60 seconds on insane.

Also, It seems like I can only split the spawn some of the time. I use Trist's strategy by pulling the minions to the door and using Monster Bait, then pulling Abby to the opposite end, but there have been several times where I've gotten Abby down to about 25% when his healer suddenly comes running all the way from the door. Once she comes, I'm screwed because she heals Abby. If I kill her, he just rezzes her.

Basically, if you can get this to work reliably, great, but I've yet to do so, at least not on Extreme or Insane. Maybe I could kill him faster at a lower difficulty setting...

Looks good and is better than some of the videos posted here.
I could take him with Bogey on up to Extreme (?) even with the healer. never was able to get enough dps output to run him on insane solo.

hopefully the devs won't notice this and decide something needs to be done about him:)

I can easily split them over 95% of the time, but it took more than a "little" practice to get the strategy down. The rock features serve as a guide, measuring tool and path for the encounter, but timing is everything. To get this to work correctly you may have to add or subtract movement speed. If you pull away too fast (mages) Abaddon will often go for the bait, if you pull away too slow (fighters) you will likely get the healer.

If you turn around you can see if the healer is following you up the path and she will likely add late if she reaches the stone arbor. This happens if she arrives late to the monster bait which is often dictated by her starting position. To counteract this if you see she is late you can take a hit or two from the goon guards prior to planting the bait. If the monster bait dies before she is able to engage it then she will likely add back with Abaddon.

The point of the video was not to show players how to "exploit" Abaddon, but rather to contradict some of the conventional wisdom about the encounter. The videos without armor/potions are clearly a gimmick, but nothing was faked and I hope the devs use this information to improve the encounter. I would like to see the encounter changed so that it is "working as intended" unlike the strategy depicted in the footage.

but strategy(?) is a big deal in this game:) I mean I can play bull in the china shop with Bogey all day long... not any real thinking to the way i play him:) on normal i can take abby in about 45 seconds with fire ward and the fire resist still going even into the next reset run.

with Steele though I've had to go about thing differently. and put some thought in to how i'm gonna beat the next boss and such:) so it's good to see someone has had the int to figure out new and creative ways to beat abby:)
