King's Coins & You
#37736 - 10/23/07 04:15 PM |
Q. What are King's Coins? A. King's Coins are a form of in-game currency that can be traded for items or sold for gold. Q. How do you get King's Coins? A. You obtain King's Coins from completing quests, killing monsters, opening chests/sarcophagi or exchanging relics with the banker. You can also buy King's Coins from Sally that randomly appears in dungeons, but she has exorbitant prices. As of today, you can also potentially obtain KCs for PvP victories. Q. I understand quests, killing and chests, but what are relics? A. Relics were added to the game in Chunk #1 and are obtained from special relic chests that appear in dungeons. Once you obtain a relic you can discuss your booty with the banker. Q. Can I stack and unstack King's Coins? A. You can stack King's Coins provided the sum of your two stacks is equal to or less than 10. Unfortunately, you cannot unstack or divide stacks of KCs or potions. Q. Where do you trade King's Coins for items? A. Behind the Townston banker there are 3 Class Token Masters that will exchange your King's Coins for items for each slot. There is a 4th Token Master for Jewelry across the path that will exchange King's Coins for jewelry (randomly a ring or amulet). Sam can be found in multiple dungeons and will also exchange KCs for specific item slots. Q. As a non-member can I still get items? A. Yes, you can still get items, but you are unable to equip them due to their quality. You can however obtain items and sell them to a vendor or give/trade them to another player. Q. Should I use my King's Coins immediately? A. At early levels, you quickly outlevel your gear so I would suggest not using KCs at very early levels for gear upgrades. Currently, if I have not upgraded a particular slot in 7-10 levels then I will use KCs to attempt to upgrade a specific item. If you try to use KCs to upgrade from a level 34 to 35 item you will probably be disappointed with what you get. If you wait more levels the chances of you getting an actual upgrade is greater. Q. You said "attempt" to upgrade a specific item? A. Yes, just because you use KCs to get an item does not necessarily mean the item you receive will be an upgrade or even usable by your build. The level of the item may be higher, but it may not have a relative item value greater than what you already have. This is one reason I wait for several levels before using King's Coins. Q. How good are the items that you get? A. From the 4 Townston Token Masters you are guaranteed to get a yellow/gold item with a chance to get a purple item. From Sam you are guaranteed to get a purple item with a small chance to get a rainbow. The item you get will match your current level and the class you selected. Q. Sam has rainbows? A. Yes, I think the ratio of purples to rainbow is 300-1 so your odds of getting a rainbow are tiny and the odds of getting a usable rainbow are miniscule. Sam's prices are also considerably higher than the Token Masters in Townston(see below). Q. King Coin's seem to be more trouble than their worth, are there future plans for them? A. Ripped from MMORPG.com MarkT: "King's Coins do have more uses planned for in the future. Right now they are solely used for improving your items - which can be pretty handy if you haven't had a good item drop in a while. We are playing around with the idea to offer up some Mythic items for King's Coins from time to time somewhere in the Dungeons... some day... " MMORPG.com: Sabito asks: Any plans for an equipment upgrade system, sockets/augments/enchants etc.? [NC]MarkT: Upgradeable equipment? Why would you ever need to upgrade your Rusty Plate Helm of the Annoying Liger? Sheesh! Actually, we do have plans for ways to let you upgrade your items both in level and with new enhancements! Did you see that question I just answered about the King's Coins? Good point - they can be traded for items that can either be used or sold for gold. |

A minor note on the Sally KC prices. My daughter found her on Embercore 4. At the lvl 48, give or take, the KCs were roughly 41k eaach with 6 for sale. I logged on Pullus and dropped down to see that she had 6 KCs at a little over 82k each for a lvl 100. I do have pics if anyone is wanting to visually verify. This should help give an idea of how much to take if you get an offer to go buy them from her. -------------------- Pullus, Level 100 Ranger Exitium, Level 60+ Mage |

Now Pullus, 1 notice and a confirm. Sally comes at level 3 embercore, not 4 mistype. And I saw her also selling KCs, also 6 of them. (No items with that, just kcs) and they were 82,4K dont remember exactly but im very sure it was somewhere there. And, I was level 100. Cant say anything about the person's level and price. |

One thing: Before 0.95, there was a banker in Tomb of the AFK Bolshevik. Now there doesn't appear to be (Haven't redone every instance of that zone, but so far it appears that there are no npcs there anymore, just some monsters, some chests, and if you click on the body itself, there seems to be a random chance of getting kcs -- got two kc once, got a 4-second disease most other times). |

Why do you like to ride Legendrunner's [censored]? Maybe I'll start pouncing on your posts and nitpicking them. Obviously, he posted that because alot (not all) of people don't look at the date of OP and claim a mistake was made. When, in reality, patch changes have outdated some of the information which was correct at the time. He was just pointing the OP date out. -------------------- Altstar: 15 RB Hunter Ranger 97% :: Fighter 97% :: Mage 98% My Gear & Wishlist :: L10 RBs for trade! |

I don't know what they were called on 10/23/07, but they're now called "Kings Coins," not "King's Coins." I take that back. The game uses "King's Coins." The Townstons Wiki uses both "King's Coins" and "Kings Coins." My bad. |

Update to King's Coins
vB post 136445 - 09/01/08 10:46 AM |
Well, since this is a sticky, let me see if I can update it to build 137: Q. What are King's Coins? A. King's Coins are a form of in-game currency that can be traded for items. Q. How do you get King's Coins? A. You obtain King's Coins from completing quests, killing monsters, opening chests/sarcophagi or exchanging relics with the banker via quests. You can get a quest from the banker, before or after obtaining the relics. It is possible that having the quest may make the relic chests spawn more often. Q. Can I stack and unstack King's Coins? A. You can stack King's Coins provided each stack is equal to or less than 100. Unfortunately, you cannot unstack or divide stacks of KCs or potions. Q. Where do you trade King's Coins for items? A. Behind the Townston banker there are 3 Class Token Masters that will exchange your King's Coins for items for each slot. Sam can be found in multiple dungeons and will also exchange KCs for specific item slots. Q. As a non-member can I still get items? Now the Token Masters sell yellow items which are usable by non-members. However non-members pay a price which is 75% to 100% higher. Q. There is also a Rainbow Sam who is very hard to find. We are playing around with the idea to offer up some Mythic items for King's Coins from time to time somewhere in the Dungeons... some day... " (Note:Rainbow Sam does appear now, charging from 100 to 240 KCs for a random rainbow item for a specific slot.) MMORPG.com: Sabito asks: Any plans for an equipment upgrade system, sockets/augments/enchants etc.? [NC]MarkT: Upgradeable equipment? Why would you ever need to upgrade your Rusty Plate Helm of the Annoying Liger? Sheesh! Actually, we do have plans for ways to let you upgrade your items both in level and with new enhancements! Did you see that question I just answered about the King's Coins? Also, it has been announced that in the next chunk there will be a Wishing Well. Drop in a KC and get a rainbow, a purple ... or crap. What do you think the chances of crap will be?? There -- I think that is pretty much up to date. I am confident that posters will be quick to correct any mistakes I made ;o) CatWalksByHimself Edited by CatByHimself (09/01/08 10:48 AM) |

Sam also comes in a much rarer Mythic form, he sells rainbows for as much as 200KCs for bodys (400KCs if your not a member). Another place to spend coins is at the newly added Wishing Well added to the top of Townston, for 1KC you have a chance to get anything from a stack of gold to a mythic, it also drops items as low as Blues and has been know to spit your Kings coin back at you. -------------------- DarthNinja lvl 100 Arch Ninja ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Webmaster of DarthNinja.com Darth's Ninja Shoppe " Your source for the best Dungeon Runners items " "Burning critters and taking their loot since 2006!" |

I thought it was a bug the first time it happened to me on the PTS when I was trying to get the new pirate armor and spending hundreds of KCs, but I was informed that it is possible. I have had it happen once on the regular server since then as well. It's just a really, rare occurrence. SHL |
