When??
#37523 - 10/19/07 04:56 PM

As a customer, when can I expect the devs to get off the PvP kick and get back to actually working on something a little more useful for your customers? Now I really could care less about PvP as this engine was not designed for it yet you are trying to force the subject (for the 25 or so people who actually use the PvP server)...so fine but when, as someone who actually pays you to play, can I expect you to get off the PvP kick and get back to content, dungeons, quests, ect...you know the stuff that people came here to do.

It hasn't been all about PVP. Matter 'o fact... build .95 is an updated .93 which has been having problems in PTS. The details on that are here.

Please note the change to mobs and a couple new skills. Also some new quests in Rasputins.

Hmmm, sound like you fall under the category of "The Majority Stockholder" (see link in my signature). For further details, please see my response in another thread that is similar to your own. Not all of the points apply to yours, but the gist of it does...

The number of team members that are working directly on PvP is low. We have spent the last week doing some extensive internal testing of PvP.

Most folks have been working on other tasks completely unrelated to PvP.

I've spent the most time developing the PvP system in the game. I created the PvP matchmaking system, implemented the balance changes and coded up the scoring and reward systems. I did the majority of that work before build 91.

Mark Tucker (the Lead Designer) has spent a lot of time playtesting PvP and working on the conceptual balance of the game. That's taken some of his time lately, but not a lot. Most recently, he's been working on some super-secret proposal documents that are critical to our planning for 2008. He's also been making more player skills and items.

Brandon Cotton (our Senior Designer) has been working on new dungeon content, encounter changes, monster skills and various other tasks. Making more dungeon content is his primary purpose... and he rocks at it. He's also been working on the changes needed to implement summoning skills likely coming in Chunk #3.

Jamie Gibbs (our Junior Designer) has been working on new quests and special encounters in the dungeons. He's pretty much responsible for most quests in the game. He's most recently been working on the quest UI overhaul that's coming.

The programmers have been working on supporting the designers, optimizing the game and whipping up new systems and features. In-game advertising would be the most recent major system that's been completed. That won't show up in the game until Chunk #2. They've also been working on the new secure trading system as well as AI support for upcoming summoning skills for players.

The artists have been doing a crazy amount of stuff. We've recently received 13 new monsters that we're waiting on sound effects for. Those will be making their way into the game in a soon-to-be update. Delivery of new armor and weapons is a regular occurance. We've also got a more expressive Karl in the works.

I'm barely touching on the majority of things that are ongoing. We're working to add tons of new content on a regular basis...

This build is taking longer than I'd like. Some of this is due to the fact that another NCsoft project "Tabula Rasa" is soon to release. That means that pretty much all of the testers in NCsoft are working on that game. We lost a lot of tester time to that on this build. Imagine one guy testing the game for a week... that kind of thing. Tabula Rasa is gonna ship soon so that's gonna clear up.

The upside of all this is that this build will be going live on Tuesday. So, hooray for more content! Skills, weapons, armor, quests and more balanced PvP! It's a great update!

Hooray for new nonpvp stuffs!

I would like to see the dungeon idea get fleshed out into a little bit more of an adventure. Not talking about changing the hack and slash flavor of DR--no puzzle solving here kk thanks. I imagine something like a dungeon (existing) with a thematic event going on in the dungeon that you get ported into. So its dungeon + theme. This would be stuff like constantly attacked by patrollers that appear from the shadows while you make your way to stop a ritual or something. Just a little 30 minute story to the hack and slash spirit. It might get old but a few stories and a few dungeons has to be better than same old dungeons right?

I would imagine that an NPC ports you directly to an instance of these story dungeons when you complete a quest (as the prize). So you go through the normal dungeons collecting key pieces and when you get them all you can complete an NPC that ports you to some instance where something is going on. Your key pieces are consumed and resetting instances just destroys the instance If you want to return you need to complete the quest again. The key quest wouldnt be elaborate. Just something to make you feel like the event dungeons were special.

Of course since the event dungeons are behind one time key quest they can have some sort of specialness to them.

Don't assume that your point of view must universally apply and all who oppose it must therefore be imbeciles. The main reason why PvP is getting so little attention ATM IMO, is due to the lack of rewards and a (for now) shabby PK system, not because no one is interested. One other thing... you mentioned, "When are the Devs going to develop what people came here to do". What is that, exactly? This is a game, and the point of a game is to have fun and be entertained; and as an MMO what really entertains people is co-operative and competitive gameplay. PvP certainly comes under competitive, and it is a facet of DR that is still poorly developed compared to the co-operative component. I think it's great the Devs are not focusing on just one aspect of the fun of MMOs, but on both aspects. If you ask me, fighting against other players is much more fun than killing AI mobs, even if mobs drop UB3R R41NB0W 571CK5 and players don't.

I don't think the OP is selfish or egocentric. I share his sentiment that I would rather have the focus of the dev team on the non-PVP aspect of DR. I think the devs are doing that, and I'm glad that they will be able to do more of that with Tabula Rasa game out the door.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, that is acceptable. However, it isn't acceptable to condemn those who do not accept your point of view and present your opinion as the UN1V3R54L C0MM4NDM3N7. The thread starter might not be selfish, but he is definitely narrow minded. He believes that everyone shares his view of things, and the Devs are wasting their time on doing something that HE doesn't want. That sounds dangerously close to selfishness to me.

WhyPay? Because, the game is fun and it's worth paying to receive member benefits. It's only $5 a month. You make it sound like you have to take out a second mortgage to have enough money to pay to play DR. I live in an area where houses can get you at least 16 millenia worth of DR membership. You can always opt to stop paying and continue playing as a non-member. That's something you can't do in other games.

As a member until March(I'll probably renew it when the time comes.), I actually like PvP in DR and content added in build 95. PvP is a nice change of pace from fighting monsters. I like the new matching system for PvP. It was so annoying having to wait in the queue for a long time just to get a match. That's probably the main reason for the low population on the PvP server. Before, I purposely leveled slowly so I could be matched easier.

Some of the other things I like in build 95 are specter armor for mages, Mad Melee Mastery, and new concept art during the loading screen. It was getting boring only seeing that skeleton warrior from the title screen during the load screen. That skeleton warrior should be a boss of a high level dungeon.

Yeah I really like the new loading screens, maybe not a really.. content thing, but its really cool. The one with the shadow queen and the warrior at the background stands on the website, with the quote:"Guys.. I think we gonna need a bigger group". Sadly they cutted that out. But I really see that now pvp is in the game its going upwards with the pve content, just wait for chunk 2 as I think theres gonna be a new dungeon, also. And also I see.. in the post of Stephen they are trying to get a bit more things to do, and killing mobs in more ways, which is what we all want. A great sollution for content in a Hack And Slash game

mind you all this is the only game i have encountered where the devs actually respond and listen to players.. they do try hard to make an awesome game even better.. and to pay 60 bucks for a year to play this kind of game.. money well spent as any ps3 game is that much.. to be honest with you all this isnt the best game i have ever played but its in the top 5 but however the devs/support team helping this game out and listening to players is TOPS.. there alot of suggestions that have been made and being put into use.. and more on the way.. like somebody else said where else can you go from member to nonmember and still play and kill 3 hours of your time.. with that said..legendrunner i demand all the rbws on your mule to clamml at once ))) oh you too foulodor

I had a nice, long post written up in reply to this, but, you know what, you're just not worth the effort.

I'll just say that Ripper has done far more to support and better this community than your pathetic first three posts and I'd take him over you any second of the day.

I'm sure you'll have some flame to reply to this with and I'm sure you'll think it's very clever in your head, but I simply don't care about you or your opinions or what you think this game should be.

In fact, reply with whatever you like; I'm sure the rest of the forum will enjoy seeing you reveal yourself for what you are.

After I hit submit on this post, you will simply cease to exist to me and I won't give you a second thought.

Wow... how did I misread that?

Guess we should all be more careful next time to not hold you to what you say. Wonder what we should do? I guess we should all just figure that you are full of hot air and leave you be. Does that work for you?

You make no sense and it is apparent you have no common sense. Let me break it down since it is obvious you can not read.

As a customer (I am a customer, means I pay to play) , when can I expect the devs to get off the PvP kick and get back to actually working on something a little more useful for your customers (meaning the ones who do not play PvP - the bigger portion of the population for this game) ? Now I really could care less about PvP as this engine was not designed for it yet you (this means the devs) are trying to force the subject (for the 25 or so people who actually use the PvP server)... so fine (This means I accept the fact that you are putting PvP into this game. ) but when (Me asking the devs) , as someone who actually pays you to play, can I expect you to get off the PvP kick and get back to content, dungeons, quests, ect... you know the stuff that people came here to do. (this means that this is billed as a hack and slash dungeon crawling game NOT a PvP game)

I find it funny how when people read boards they only read what they want to read and fill in the rest with their own misconceptions. ANYWAYS

Stephen already answered the question with intelligence and depth.

I will leave this thread to the trolls from here on out

you must understand that with a name like WhyPay you're already asking to be a trouble-maker, then you come on the forum and basically tell the dev's they're a bunch of retards. im pretty sure that's why people are flaming you, not because they misunderstood anything you typed.

Okkkkkaaaaayyyy...

For starters, please refrain from switching colours like that..painful on the eyes!

As for the focus on PvP, I can see why the devs want to look at this for the moment. Most people will agree that the PvE component is pretty much sussed at the moment. PvP is a viable option and is growing increasingly popular amongst the level 100's that don't really have much to do :P

DR isn't just PvE...Why farm all these awesome rb's and just smack mobs around the place?

Anywho, that's just my two cents.

This is an excellent example of how open and exposed the human psyche is online. Let's go with the idea that Whypay wrote this in an effort to communicate. He/she is telling us how he/she feels emotionally about this game. He/she has written this in an inflammatory manner. Was this done to insult others? Or was it done because he/she cannot communicate his/her emotions as well as he/she would like to be able to do? If that is the case there are a huge number of variables that could be responsible. Some of these could be lack of I.Q., mental abuse from one or more parents (could be a foster child that has had 10 or more parents) or even a head injury that has caused permanent cranial damage.
We as a forum group can look further into his/her statement for clues. "You make no sense and it is apparent you have no common sense. Let me break it down since it is obvious you can not read." He/she reiterates his/her desire to communicate ( 'Let me break it down' ) but fails to make the intellectual leap needed to understand that by typing a response to someone who cannot read the message will go undeciphered.
In his/her next statement he/she states that he/she is a customer. I believe this but I am using the Merriam-Webster definition here :an individual usually having some specified distinctive trait <a real tough customer>. Hopefully we as a forum can post what what we feel the distinctive trait is.
The next sentence shows us the schism or duality of mind 'when can I expect the devs to get off the PvP kick and get back to actually working on something a little more useful for your customers' where he/she truly feels that his/her mindset represents that of the entire gaming community that plays DR. The variance at this point where the reality and his/her perceived reality divide is a typical point for the resulting anger expressed.
Another example of his/her mindset representing the whole; 'as someone who actually pays you to play, can I expect you to get off the PvP kick and get back to content, dungeons, quests, ect... you know the stuff that people came here to do.'

Try to imagine the frustration you would feel at not being able to communicate your feelings and emotions. This helps us understand the anger that Whypay puts into his/her statements. When he/she types it could be the end result of a long and ultimately unsuccessful struggle to communicate with others.
