Preventing resist
#37491 - 10/18/07 11:59 PM

I level with a friend who gets a bit more playtime than I do, so he's out leveling me slowly and steadily. Now that we are boss farming abaddon i'm getting resisted ALOT.

Since i hadent had this problem before I wonder if resists are level based? or perhaps based off my int score? or maby it's entirely something different. but either way, i don't know what it is. I was wondering if anyone knew of what it is that causes resists, and how i can prevent it. (if you know the formula, that's even better.)

it has to do with everything you said.. if your friend who is higher lvl and is leader then abby will be harder to land spells on due to the lvl difference.. however with that said abby is immune to fire, and very resistant to shadow.. so that leaves you firing ice bolt and shards.. chilling touch is another way to up your dps as i wouldnt do gas/ring unless you enjoy spamming the spacebar 20 times a fight.. however you can do acidic blight though for your friend.. and ice bolt with the slow helps as well..

Patch Notes 3/21
Quote:

Magical damage resistances have been given new caps. All monsters and players now cap out at 90% resistance if their resistance value is above 90% and bottom out at 10% if their resistance is less than 10%. The exception to this rule is damage-immune monsters.

Level difference between players and monsters is now more impacting to gameplay. Fighting monsters that are above your level is more difficult for both casters and melee damage dealers. For each level that a monster exceeds a player's level they gain 10% spell resistance, 10% stun resistance and the player's spell resistances are reduced by 10%. These rules also apply to players that are higher level than monsters.

Patch Notes 3/27
Quote:

The extra damage resistance for monsters that are above your level has been reduced to 5% per level, down from 10%.

So, if I'm reading it correctly then monsters get a 5% spell resistance increase per level above the player.

I couldn't find the quote but I remember reading now with spell criticals, if a player has negative resistance they are more susceptible to spell criticals.
