class balance in pvp
#37486 - 10/18/07 07:27 PM

heyas,
i am a pvp fan and i'm particularly found of thrilling matches against my pairs of similar levels. When i was lower lvl (i hit 100 a couple of weeks ago), matches would be fairly balanced against all classes + or - 5 lvls imo.
Now that i've hit 100, i find it very difficult if not impossible as a ranger to beat certain classes of my lvl like mages, despite having pretty good ranger gear, and extensive pvp experience (185 wins... some losses too).
I'm sure other players of my lvl will share my view (er.. not mages maybe).
Next patch will prolly only widen the gap, as acknowledged by some of my mage mates, as they're gaining spell crit, also warriors are gaining great spells, whereas we rangers are... losing on the PP (i'm not complaining on that but it is a fact). My experience on PTS tends to confirm that. Lesser magic res nerf does not help that much.

I like close matches and diversity of opponents, so i would be sad to give up pvp only because rangers would suck in next patch and not be able to match my pairs (no fun in beating noobies).
So I have one suggestion, that could favour a bit more balance: add a spell dmg reflection thing, via gear and/or spell. Well there is ranged dmg reflect, melee dmg reflect, both play big in pvp (even more in next patch as other things are leveled out). So why is there not such thing for spells? Could be applicable with ranged dmg reflect gear for instance, to make its implementation simple..

Any other ideas are welcome.

Not complaining here, just wanting this game to keep its thrill.

viper ...you should practice more over the weekend on pts if u get the chance ..rangers will not suck in the next patch...loss of the pp only means u have to rethink your stratagy..ive tested the next patch as much as i could and well...it seems pritty well balanced ...remember mages get the crits with spells ...but so do rangers ...and your name is viperous ..so ..well your poison will get crit now too..so concivably u will get more crits now as well...heh ...thats enough for hints ...figure it out!

i hardly believe poison alone can change it all for rangers in next patch, but i'll surely have a few more tries..

also it's easy to be anti-poison fitted for a fight whereas u cannot have same protection lvl against shad/ice/fire at a time as mages can switch easily during a fight.

So still considering fair to get some magic reflect bonus kinda thing, at least to balance existing melee/ranged reflect. Not even sure this is enough for global balance.

Rangers can be extremely effective in pvp, now that I wont scream it all around here, just pm me in-game, any of you that want to know. Notice its only quite good at level 90+
