(Yet Another) Suggestion Thread
#37356 - 10/16/07 12:11 PM

I want to start with obligatory though well earned praise: Great game! All in all, it's a relaxing and enjoyable way to blow a few (dozen) hours. I do have a very few pet peeves and a suggestion or two, some of which have already been suggested, but I'm including for the sake of completeness and repetition.

1. Keybindings: I'd really, really like it if controls bound to the numeric keypad didn't have to be reset every time I launch the game. Please? Pretty please? With rainbow sprinkles?

2. Loot Tables, Specifically Jewelry, More Specifically Mage Jewelry. Mages, specifically shadow and ice mages (though no one plays ice mages; see next point) get the short end of the stick for loot. There are exactly 3 Rainbow items for shadow mages and, to the best of my knowledge, zero Rainbows for ice mages. This kinda stinks. The overwhelming majority of mage RBs have their benefits spread across multiple skill lines, and no one wants 'em. Compounding this are the loot tables for jewelry. Playing through as a mage, I found myself frequently using jewelry drops that were anywhere from 20 to 40 levels below me. This owes itself in part to mages having somewhat more stringent requirements as to usable loot, but also to the fact that there's no overarching logic to bonus structures on jewelry. You'll never find a ranged weapon with +% to melee damage, yet there seems to be no limitations on cross-class modifiers on jewelry. Fighters and rangers can also hope for either a damage type specific mod (+% to piercing) OR a class specific (+% to melee/ranged) mod, while mages only have type specific mods to hope for. Finally, there is no hope at all of getting gear from KC merchants because of the rarity restrictions listed above. You're far more likely to receive Rainbow jewelry from Sam than a usable amulet, but, in a final strike of irony, even that Rainbow will be useless to you.

3. Ice Mages: The utility of a snare in PvE is, to say the least, limited. I really like the idea of a more diverse skill list (see next point again!) but as it stands, the sacrifice you make in damage output isn't worth it. A suggestion off the top of my head would be an AoE skill with lower damage than, for instance, Ring of Fire, but which slows a la ice bolt and hinders an effected enemy from using special abilities. No knockdowns for Ice Mages! No matter what the exact nature of the solution is, the fact remains that a solution is needed.

That pretty much ends my nitpicking, so I'll give a suggestion on where I'd like to see things go in the future.

4. Skills: Skills are great, skills are wonderful. You love 'em, I love 'em, we all love skills. We don't just want more skills though, I think I speak for everyone when I say that we want more skills with more synergy between them. As it stands, there's a pretty small number of effective builds. The best way to expand this is to create a more diverse skill pool. Having ten different 'bolt' spells doesn't really add anything but graphics, but there are tons of games out there from which to draw inspiration for new types of skills. I realize that Dungeon Runners operates on something of a skeleton crew when compares to most online games, so I think the community should shoulder as much of the burden as possible. Starting a running thread of skill ideas is something off the top of the noggin, but there's a lot we the community can do to enhance the game.

i have been trying hard lately for the mages but havent gotten an answer from any of the devs on anything i suggested.. maybe they think with the crit it will pipe the mages down but i just see that as a minor adjustment... like you said and like I posted before a few times the rbwS are just plain aweful and yes D there are ice mages and those that are one are lvl 100 and doing abby... abby is immune to fire and highly resistant to shadow so that leaves just ice as your main weapon.. however you can add to your dps by using gas but then you will get agro from the rest and thats not what you want as a mage.. its a tough task trying to make the mage stronger in end game while not making it over powering at the same time.. because lets all face it the mages own lvling speed even with no rbws.. my thing would be make them more of a nuker and less of a aoe type of class but then i know that wont fly as many people play this game to lvl and enjoy being the mage for the lvls is provides them.. i am a mage in heart and will fight for mages to be better in end if that means different rbws lvl 65+ and up then so be it.. oh and you said 3 good rbws for a mage... you got the sissi staff, dark ring, and is the 3rd uber wand? as the wring isnt a good one for stats.. just looks cool

Check out PTS - we've got this one licked.

More Rainbows, particularly randomly generated rainbows, are coming.

I use it quite a bit against mobs that use Holy Roller - just like in PVP.

Have you looked at Unnerving Shout? We're always working on a diverse set of skills, but they don't necessarily go to the trainer (or use the element) you might expect.

anson yu answered his questions but none for the lvl 100 mage.. i didnt get single answer for any of the suggestions i made to make the lvl 100 mage better, to be honest with you with a mage in group all they do is ice bolt, move to chests faster and acidic blast... which are meaningful but a crit fighter/ranger can do the same thing and speed things up... but as a mage and rbw hunting at lvl 100 is pointless as you ask any lvl 100 mage and i betcha 98% of there gear are not rbws.. and if they are rbws its for wring and the int and thats all.. anson and stephen plus listen to this as i am not lieing nor making stuff up you ask any mage out there that is 100 and wonder why they switch classes cause once you all set on purple gear there is no t1-t3 items for mages

We can't spend all day on the boards, or respond to everything. I do try to respond to questions when I know the answers, but for the most part we just read them.
