mage or ranger?
#37227 - 10/14/07 10:41 AM |
I'm a newbie to this game, my mate and I started yesterday. Hes a figher and I started as a mage. We'll mainly play it together so with that in mind would going a ranger have been a better idea? I know this game essentially is classless and you can change everything around but ofcourse that takes cash. Should I stay or change? Whats better for doing bosses later on as well? Thanks. |

If you can make it as a mage then stay that way. They do well. Rangers do well too , but why change unless you aren't enjoying your class. I have trouble building a good mage. So I tend to go with ranger which is a lot easier to build. |

i played a mage nonmember till lvl 60 or so and yes mages are hard to solo with but make great partners with though.. taking damage from 10 mobs at a time while the fighter/ranger kills each just makes his/her job easier.. mages arent good at single mobs like fighters/rangers but with the right gear a mage can be a vital part of a duo.. |

so what would u say is the better pairing? Mage/Fighter or Ranger/Fighter? Is trash hard to clear up if you have a fighter and ranger together and I guess the rangers damage compared to the other two is superior right? On single targets that is, how much better than the fighter? thanks. |

Damage potential in this game doesnt really break down by class. The big choice is how much emphasis you put on offense in your gear/stats and how much emphasis you put on defense in your gear/stats. Also AE looses effectiveness against champions and better. One of you should choose to emphasis enough defense to wade into the middle and be comfortable. The other should deemphasis defense down to the point where you are on the edge of being scared for your survival constantly. That pair will greatly outperform the pair where both of you get another survival stats to interchangably tank. The natural choice to tank is the warrior since they get the edge on AC. As for rangers versus mage? The interesting thing about rangers in these pairings is they suffer less downside on boss mobs than mages while still being able to emphasis offense less than a warrior since they arnt troubled with having to stand in the horde to dps. |

I'm no expert on this, but I believe mages are good at clearing normal and fodder mobs (they may or may not have an edge in terms of leveling speed due to this, I'm not sure), but do not do as well as rangers or fighters against champions/heroes/bosses. |

yeah so you in hdol with a fighter/ranger.... the mage will clear all the little guys as the fighter/ranger would take down the heroes/champions.. maybe do some aoes like blight/gas/unnerving shout/fire and shadow lightning.. usually the fighter/ranger would turkey leg then shoot for the heroes while you kill all the guys on the turkey leg.. |

Quote: I play my lvl 63 char as a mage, and sometimes a hunter, and by far lvling in dungeons as a mage is alot quicker. At this point the only place im more efficient as a hunter is on Abbadon and some parts of HDOL. in fact id place bets on a speed trial between equals of all classes to get thru a typical dungeon on a mage. -------------------- Opyleah: lvl 67 mage. (sometimes fighter) World 2 & 3 |
