Resolution problems
#37192 - 10/13/07 04:41 PM

Although I have framerate issues regardless of the resolution and in-game settings I use, I prefer to keep the game set 1024x768 since it looks far better than 800x600 and performs identically (in a "all modes run like crap, so I'll go with something astheticly pleasing" sort of way) to all other resolutions.

Where my problem lies (aside from the game running like crap even at 640x480) is that if I set my in-game resolution to anything higher than 800x600, the game automaticly switches everything back to 640x480 the next time I play.... which runs just bad as 1024x768, but looks far worse.

System Specs:
Win XP Pro
1.6 Ghz Processor
1 Gig RAM
128 MB nVidia Geforce FX 5200

Currently I'm using the latest nVidia drivers since I've tried multiple versions without any change.

For the time being, I've come to accept that the game is going to run like crap. All I want to do right now is get the blasted resolution to stay set at 1024x768 from one play session to the next. Any suggestions?

I just started the game as a quick 'n' easy alternative to Guild Wars. I too have noticed the the frame rate and resolution is pretty ugly. I see we both have Nvidia cards. Mine is the FX 5700. Perhaps it's an Nvidia prob?

I'm half thinking the over-all issues I've been experiencing are related to poor nVidia card support, but my main annoyance still remains: If I set my in-game resolution to anything higher than 800x600, the game automaticly reverts back to 640x480 the next time I play.

I've even tried manually editing the config files to force 1024x768 with no luck.

It's quite annoying for me, considering other online games with far more intense system requirements will retain the settings I choose even if they don't run well at those settings.

Since this game performs the same on my system regardless of which drivers and graphics settings I use, the least I could hope for is not having to reset my resolution every frichen time I load the game.

It wouldn't be so annoying if resetting your resolution in-game didn't cause a massive lag spike for several seconds.... Hell, can't even set the display options from the log-on screen.

Try going in to windowed mode prior to entering your login information. Do an <alt+enter> to get there.

This is interesting. I have the same problem, actually. My monitor's native resolution is 1680x1050, but every time I restart the game it sets me down to 1440x900. I also have an nVidia card. Oddly enough, I don't think I had this problem prior to the last patch.
