Hot Key Program
#37143 - 10/12/07 01:07 PM

I have searched the EULA and not seen anything other than "create any derivative works in respect of the Software or the Service" that refers to making a "Helper" type program FOR DR. I would like to know if I missed something or if a "Hot key" helper type program is permitted to use in this game. As a novice programmer and avid gamer I like being able to adjust my settings and spells on the fly, and I have a small list of things I would like to see in one if/when made. Any help or suggestions in this are appreciated. My list includes hot keys for /stuck (Best little known command in the game IMO), spell switching on right and left mouse buttons, Time stamp (If not in windowed mode it is nice to know what time it is.), and possibly an auto startup sequence.

If im right the EULA says it isnt allowed to make/use third party programs. I think this applies to all programs, helping or unfair advantage giving. I give 90% chance that a dev will respond with the message as I said myself.
If you want things like that I think its better to suggest it as a game feature instead of making it yourself in a third party program.

7. OFFICIAL SERVICE

Dungeon Runners is designed for official play only as offered through the Service by NC Interactive at the Web Site and not through any other means. You further agree not to access, create or provide any other means through which Dungeon Runners may be played by others, as through server emulators. You agree not to use any hardware or software, including but not limited to third party tools, or any other method of support which may in any way influence or advantage your use of the Service which is not authorized by NC Interactive, including but not limited to the use of ‘bots’ and/or any other method by which the Service may be played automatically without human input. You acknowledge that you do not have the right to create, publish, distribute, create derivative works from or use any software programs, utilities, applications, emulators or tools derived from or created for the Dungeon Runners, except that you may use the Software to the extent expressly permitted by this Agreement.

Seems pretty obvious to me.

Ok, where is the influence or advantage to knowing what time it is? The only difference between hitting the windows key and having a key that posts the current time is not having to switch back to DR.

Having a key for /stuck while might look like it, the only place I can see it having an advantage would be in PVP and I am not sure if it is even an active command on the PVP world. Even if so using /stuck during pvp would (I think) remove you from the pvp instance and you get all yellow for it. Advantage? Not from where I sit.

I can concede that a single key to change the spells in your hotbar or mouse slots on the fly, instead of hitting "o" and clicking 2 or 3 times and hitting "o" again could and would fall under the advantage category but again I only see that IF in PVP and it could do it much faster than normal, witch is pretty darn fast. I switch my main spells during mob combat all the time and only take 2-3 sec to do so.

The last idea I put forth, an auto DR startup, has no "Game" advantage. If there was a line that could be sent to the NC Launcher that accepted the EULA and started DR that would be nice but don't yet see any thing like that available at this time. My comp being fairly slow takes 3-5 min to get DR from 1st click to entering my password. I could be doing laundry or the dishes while I wait.

I would still like the dev's point of view on this even if it is shot down in whole and just taken as suggestions for game additions / improvements.

Last but not least, thank you for your help and comments in this.

If you launch using the NC Launcher icon instead of the the DR.exe you will only have to hi accept once. Although pretty sure they said this would be fixed in the next build.

Launching from the DR icon... still waiting on that in patch. Yes I use the NC launcher, so, wait for launcher to load... Because it is the launcher, you have to choose DR... same time used. Eeh? At least I can turn the launcher off when it is done. Grats to that!

And Clamm, T1DSL. 1.5 up and down, it's not the connection... It's the comp.
