Query on game lexicons/words
#37103 - 10/11/07 03:21 PM |
Hi, I'm currently doing a research on the game lingos that gamers use within specific gaming genres. Can anyone suggest some game lingos for specific game subgenres, eg. first person shooters, real-time strategy games, MMORPGs, etc. And which sites would I be able to gather such word usage plentifully. Am I allowed to post this query here? If not mods can delete it. |

NPC's - non-player characters - definitely a universal term for the guys who give quests and buy crap you loot from corpses in dungeons. Loot - the stuff you get from treasure chests and corpses. Pots - potions. Tank - player character with good defense, often used to keep the monsters' attention away from more fragile characters. Nuker - spellcaster that focuses on offense. DoT - Damage over Time. Mob - any non-player enemy. Edited by lance357 (10/12/07 03:53 PM) |

Hi, are there any unique game lexicons that define what is real-time in "real-time strategy games"? |

I don't know any lexicons but the "real time" refers to games where player turns are simultaneous. Most basic games, chess, mancala, card games, are based around player turns. The automation of computer programming allows those turns to happen all at once, in "real time". Examples of "real time" games would be Warcraft:Orcs and Humans or Command and Conquer. Turn based games would be Sid Meier's Civilization or Alpha Centauri. I'm curious, are you interested in game history/theory or the linguistics of game culture? -------------------- ------------------------------------------------- MamaAnarchia Level 100 Genius Arch Arcane Mage Parkaboy Level 54 Athletic Seasoned Poison Ranger CaycePollard (50) BooneChu (8) Retired. |
