A Dye system please.
#37012 - 10/09/07 10:54 PM

I think it would be cool if we could buy dye to make our mismatched gear match a little better. Plus, I'd have something else to spend money on. This has probably been suggested before, but it would be nice to have.

Suggested before but really needed? not IMO. I like being every color under the sun ... and if you want a matching set you have to work for it. Takes alot longer finding the right type with the right stats.

Well for some reason I instinctively want to hate the idea, but I remember playing a diablo 2 mod where you could dye your armor and it was actually a really good feature. Anyways imagine a townston where most people were 1 colour, would it look better or worse?

I actual think there should be other things to spend gold on besides skills. I have been hording and have over 3 mil now at lvl 29. I Like the dye kit idea alot. I would also maybe in the far flung future like to see a way to unbind old items so you can pass them off to a low lvl buddy. Just an idea since i got several rbs and purps sitting in my bank I just hate to throw out.

I do think that the dye should be very expensive. different values for different colors. Much like in GuildWars, only more expensive. I also think the dyes should be different colors than are available now for the gear in game.

It would also be cool to have a basic crafting system. Not a skill, but more of having a blacksmith in town and you can find special 'elements' per say that will allow the blacksmith to imbue your armor or weapons.

I know all this has probably been suggested before, but you what they say, the squeaky wheel gets the grease.

I probably wouldn't use it and don't see much of a need in it, but a lot of others do, so, what the hell.

In thinking back, though, I do remember slaughtering thousands of Mandragora's in Ragnarok just so I could get that annoyingly rare 4-leaf clover for my bunny ears because I thought they looked cool, so I guess not even I'm immune.

I believe this has been suggested before although I don't recall what the general consensus was.

How 'bout this variation... have your gear dyed in the blood of your victims? Basically just random splattering of blood onto your armor that changes as your fights occur?

Blood stain and splatter would be cool. Not sure if the graphics in the game could do it (handle it) but would be fun option to toggle on and off.

After thinking about it some more, I think I'd like the idea if it could be expanded beyond just color dying. Maybe add patterns, but make them drops instead of purchases. Maybe even tie it to the ads that are being put it with things like Nike symbols, Pepsi/Coke logos, etc.

All assuming the game can do it, of course

Allowing you to change the color of elements of your armor and weapons using dyes that would either be sold by vendors or be drops.

Bingo...

Great for making you you, and not just one of the samey-looking 3458759459845984598478* Figthers wearing the same coloured armour, packing the same weaps, that sort of thing.

Funny because I always found that dye made you look like everyone else. IE everyone wanting a specific color and looking the same. I can say I look pretty unique in the game without worrying about dyeing my gear.

That's just the goths, Joe.

(I kid, I kid)

Seriously, I think the only way that'll happen is if dyes are made available as dropped loot and each colour has a differing level of rarity - like in Guild Wars, where Black and White are the rarest and the most expensive - and peeps insist on using those colours as a symbol of "1337-ness". Make them all equally common, and mixable, and you might not get that problem. Hopefully.

Or there could simply be NPC's that will dye your armor either for gold, for kings coins, or some combo.

I like the idea of being able to customize my armor a bit so that my character does not look like he has been outfitted by rummaging through dumpsters. Hmmm, well I guess he HAS been outfitted by rummaging through random loot pryed from dead hands and barrels and chests.

OK - so maybe just armor acquired from kings-coin merchants should be customizable? That makes some sense...those sets are issued to us, not hobbled together from random drops. So they should be able to be customized. Not that things necessarily need to make sense to be fun.

This is one of the things about Guild Wars that I found so utterly ridiculous. I found a couple of black dyes in my time playing GW. I never used them for their real purpose, dying my armor, but I saved them because they were extremely valuable in the economic system of the game. Where's the fun?

So in DR I think dyes should be abundant drops, they should be purchasable at vendors for very low and evenly distributed prices. Make them fun, MamaA would look great in a pastel pink Hello Kitty/Glinda The Good Witch set of mage armor.
