i hate mono class character,
is it possible to have mage who use a sword and buckler or 2 h sword but beiing effective as a mage.

i don't want replace the fighter but , sometimes hitting with melee is a bit funny.

You can do it but as to how effective you will be as a mage you have to try it out. I do it with an xbow and am very effective. If you find fighter weapons/shield that has +int and +end you will likely still be effective as a mage. If you go more for agi and str (primary fighter attributes) your damage (and mana pool) wont be as effective. It can be done but you have to find a good balance.

I am an int/end mage, but I like the occasion when I slap out the death blow physically. It's a weak hit, but funny when it kills something.

you prob are not hitting anything unless your finding some agility somewhere.

I can recomend what i do, which is keeping a full set of hunter gear in your bank, and buying up the hunter skills. I can actually become a very effective hunter just by switching equips.

If im going to be a hunter for more then a day or so tho, i just go ahead and respec my base stats also.

I have to say tho, its fun going to the bank and changing from one class to the other, One of the pros of this game.
Plus it adds another lvl to the game when your trying to upgrade equips for two classes while looting. Its funny, i think my hunter actually has better equips then my mage.

i use to think that ranger gear dropped more then the rest but now i can say its about equal its so bad that mages get the rear end of the deal on rbws.. Besides the sissi staff and brown eye rings there isnt another good rbw thing for mages.. granted 95% of rangers and fighters are all crits and have rbws geared towards that.. Going back on topic melee with weapons sounds like fun but like the other person said unless you have some kind of agi someplace you wont be hitten much.. but this is a game where you can mix and match and have fun while doing so..
