+dmg vrs +%dmg question
#35631 - 09/14/07 11:26 PM |
was just curious how these worked and compare... i htink how +dmg works is fairly straightforeward, but how does that compare to +%dmg ill use cold dmg as the constant type just hypotheticlly so say i have an item thats +10 cold dmg and an item with +2% cold dmg, and hypotheticlly thats the only stat..which hlps my cold dmg better? does the +% cold dmg get claculated from just my dmg bonus (say i have +100 cold dmg total), does it get claculated only from my skills base dmg, or does it get calculated in my skills base dmg + my bonus? the reason i ask is lets say that its just my bonus dmg (2% of 100 = +2 cold dmg), than the item with 10 cold dmg is better if its skill base dmg then that skill would have to do 500 dmg b4 the 2% to get the same benifit as the +10 if its both lets say than i would need a base dmg of 400 (with the bonus 100 from +dmg) to get the same benifit as +10 dmg so the further down the list i go the more potential +% has for being a better stat..however i dont know how it gets calculated into my dmg if ne 1 out there could do the number crunching and tell me how +%dmg works that would be a big hlp in being able to determine what stat i go with. thx guys |

Without doing the number crunching ... my head hurts to much to do that. +damage is better at lower levels but when you get to higher levels you definately want +% damage. This % is based off of your base damage. So in your example of Ice damage this would include Ice Bolt and Ice Shards. So you want to look at the damage you do, which is mainly Dependant on your INT. -------------------- JoeB - Level 100 - Back to a Fighter where he belongs SirOldBottom - Level 42 - Shadow Merc Mearlin - Level 29 - Mage Dungeon Runners Map Build 0.95 |

so ur saying that the percent modifies base dmg of the skill (ie: ice bolt) + the dmg from int? how drasticlly does int affect dmg? how many int = 1+dmg? in ne case ty for the answer, hope u or some other ppl can clear this all up for me i really wana know |

also suggest looking in the mage section and go back a few months. I know some of the numbers were crunched but to tired to look myself right now. Would have been back in March or so -------------------- JoeB - Level 100 - Back to a Fighter where he belongs SirOldBottom - Level 42 - Shadow Merc Mearlin - Level 29 - Mage Dungeon Runners Map Build 0.95 |

Best way to do it is this, lets say you have a base of 1600 damage. You find an item that will give you +12 melee damage and +6% melee damage. Just compare them both and pick the highest one. 1600 + 12 = 1612 1600 x 0.06 = 96 + 1600 = 1696 So clearing the 6% gives you a higher damage output then +12. Even a 2% would give more damage with 1632. I would stick with % over +dmg to be honest because even with low %'s you can get high damage. I'm just trying to show why I believe %'s are better, but for mages I'm not sure how the damage works. I'm guessing you count the spell damage range like a weapon and compare. Percents are definately better for range and mellee if they are higher level. But say are level 15 where you are doing doing say 300 on max damage then the +damage my be better than the +%. -------------------- JoeB - Level 100 - Back to a Fighter where he belongs SirOldBottom - Level 42 - Shadow Merc Mearlin - Level 29 - Mage Dungeon Runners Map Build 0.95 |
