Mage Build
#34982 - 09/09/07 02:44 AM

Ok I started this game like 2 days ago and I'm kinda tried of the fighter and ranger class... I was wondering if it was a good idea to put all my stat increases into INT and wear fighter armor to get END increases. I'd also like to know if putting Shadow Lightning as my right click is a good idea...

Haven't play for DR for months for its repetitive grind (maybe i'll return when their PVP become balance), but if memory serve me right
Its goes like this
From left to right: SL, Ring of fire, Gas, yum yum! and the fire buffs.

those are the thing you should be upgrading, get use those than go find any snare for PVP.

Time for me to play some Bioshock now

QFT. It's not like putting all your points into INT and using the AOE skills takes a rocket scientist.

As a mage I never wore fighter gear because it slowed me down to much. Occasionally I have used ranger gear with +end or a split +end/int. At least the way I play a mage speed is king and standing still or moving slow gets my rag doll killed very quickly. As a mage you aren't putting any points (or enough to make a difference) into str to take care of any bonus that you get with having warrior armor on.

talk is cheap, wheres the proof? I got mind.

Getting to 100 is not hard, if you're a hardcore 24/7 grinder.

Nobody on Youtube ever record their awesomeness DR take down video beside me. Alot on youtube just steal and show the official DR trailer. I was the only Mage that started it all on youtube. Check the date on other DR video and their skill bar. Take Overpower build as example.

Those are my accomplishmenst at that low lvl given that short time, i have yet to see you accomplish anything.

Right now, you're basically using my advice on stats recommendation for the OP.

Except you started playing in May and many of us have been playing a lot longer ans used the same strategies or similar to you long before. Because you put it on video does not make you the first. You are correct that getting to 100 isn't hard and all you have to do is grind like mad. Not the way I did a vast majority of my levels, but we were using AOE runs like you show long before you started playing and before you posted your videos.

To bad you didn't have it on video, to make the thing you said more creditable.

I have yet to see anyone skilled enough to take down Chieftan at lvl 21 (Mage with full robe - solo style)
Or killing Frump in 15 sec at lvl 34 using fire and gas alone, all capture in video.

I leave a legacy behind me with a bang with the help of some video that record my achievements. You can called it proof or bragging right xD

I advertise DR on you tube, GT, and attracted a lot of players. I make great builds at earlier lvl, better than those play before me. Prove me wrong other wise. Those are priceless contributions and thats only half the fun.

Wheres yours?

Hmmm, Fighting over who came up with the idea for a build. Lots of fun. No I'm not quite sure of the build we are fighting over, but it still seems very foolish to me. If it's the fact that mages should be lots of int with a little end, well then that predates both condor and joeb, mages been doing that for as long as I can remember. Many of my wiped mages from closed beta had that set up. If its the fact that mages should use aoe to level, I dunno when that came up but when I played for a small stint in may I was told that was the best way to level, which predates condor. If its the speed at which your farming that boss as a mage then perhaps you do have something there, however that will only help them for up to level 50. Then continuing to use your build will be somewhat stupid because there are much better ways to kill the other bosses after that point.

My current build is a somewhat balanced one because I jump around from embercore to shadows embrase to rasputin depending on how I feel. Its the basic Lots of int and a little end. Due to build 91 I've allowed my end to drop more then normal because I use blue screen of life. Most of my bonus is on shadow damage. With my resistances split between ice/fire/divine/shadow. Its not an optimized build for one area but it is a good one for when I want to jump into any of the 3 dungeons for my level. I can farm Rasputin on normal in a little under 3 minutes. On insain its about 15 minutes but I'm working on getting that down. Shadowqueen on normal takes me 1.5 minutes. I haven't tried her on insain yet.

A build is just a build. The way I do my skill bar is different from almost every other high level mage out there and has never been the one from that video. Perhaps that means I suck because I don't use your pro build or just that the way I prefer to play is much different than your own.

There is nothing fancy about builds. If you want to farm a boss you need to just need to raise the resists of the magic he or his minions use, and raise the damage of the main spell you plan on using against him(This will change between bosses due to immunities). High Int is always important offset by some end, the ammount of end can be lowered further with the use of Blue Screen of Life.

Unless your doing something very crazy with your skills and/or stats saying you created a build is just stupid.

CraigH I think you misunderstood my post. I was not taking credit for any build but took offense someone trying to take credit for it. I was a warrior for over 60 levels and only played a mage for a short time. I know many high level and beta version players that were doing what Condor has posted and claimed as his own pro build.

The fight on my end (although really I dont consider it worth truly fighting over, only commenting on) is over the arrogance to claim a build as your own when it is widely used in the game long before a character started to play.

I believe you failed to get the point.

Creating a build thats effectiveness enough to take down a Champion at lvl 21 that non other robe mage can able to pull it off [till this day]

That's called Revolution of a skilled player emerging, not arrogance.

In short " role model " + video to back that up.

Sorry joeb I didn't mean for it to sound like I was attacking you, I was just stating that it was done before you were around. I know your not claiming to own the build.

Condor, what you don't realize is that when you joined there had already been over 6 months of non wiped chars that had been playing. I have yet to run into anyone I knew from back in january when I quit playing. Most the people I played with quit around the same time I did. Just because at the time the build was not common when you were playing does not mean it was not common before you came around. When I was playing no mage that I knew wore fighter gear. Players like JoeB who have been around longer then you know things like that.

I will admit you were prolly the first to make a video of you running your build and maybe the first to share it publicly on the forums. But, it looks like the boards were wiped at the end of january, so build posts back then are not even on the boards.

clamm If reading comprehension was your problem, let me elaborate a little more for you.

I'm here to give advice to the OP on effective build that anyone can use especially new Mages. I never claim that I'm better than those that played before me hence I never mention any of their name. Pro can be those play after me, not necessary before me.

I'm not here to brag, but only give reference to doubters.

I'm not here to brag, even if you feel like I'm , I backed it with evidences while you only plague this thread with your constant crying on how you can do it at lvl 21 without a single proof. I seen angry & jealous monkeys claiming they're better than me on my video, but when I asked "got any video to back that up?" they all start insulting me cos they knew they're a failure from the start.

Now Condor likes to show off a little, IMO, nothing wrong with it as long as its not too extreme. If you dont like it or it gets bad, ignore, just simple.
But insulting people is the lowest form of a reaction.
Be smart and explain how you feel about it is a better way to discuss, and let Condor or anybody else understand the message.

To Condor.. Indeed people did the same, still insane as MAGE at level 20 snowchief can be slightly difficult as you need to have "Perfect" gear for that level.

PS: I did notice the cut at your frump vid, no secret anymore.. howmuch secs was cut out?
PPS: He doesnt play anymore, he plays Bioshock currently, so he already quit some time ago.

imo u guys should all be ashamed, a new player comes on asking for advice and you squable about something that has little to nothing to do with his question.

Zero, i hope this didnt leave a bad impression on you as most of the player base of this game is extremely freindly and hlpful.

im not a fighter Zero but the answer to ur question is kinda objective, and based very heavily on ur skill selection as well as ur gear.

u said ur a fighter/ranger hybrid, but from describing ur gear and a skill u sound more like a fighter/mage...

will u be using a ranged weapon like a bow or a melee weapon?

this is important because if you are using a bow (and thus ranger skills reliant on a ranged weapon) than your gear/stat selection should include a good deal of agi and prob a limited/no amount of Str...

either way if u plan on using mainly weapon attacks (as opposed to spells) than i would suggest getting mana draining gear so that u dont have to put as much points into int.

most ppl seem to be on the fence about how to handle distributing points in end and the rest...some ppl like to spec end and get the other stats from items and some ppl like to spec other stats and get end from items...and further yet some ppl balance it accross gear and spec (like some points in end and some in other stats and same with gear)

hope this hlps u a bit, also the nice thing about this game is there really isnt a wrong way to play...try everything, see what u like, and do it :P

I'd wear mage gear thats +int/+end. It will be the way you get + damage bonus to your spells.

Edit: for my last post. Ranger armors are +agi or +end or a mix of the two. If your low on end you could consider wearing a ranger armor thats just +end but I think its more important to wear mage gear that splits end and int. Int is the most important stat you can have. Your armor will provide more + to your stats then the ones you allocate. You need to make sure your equipment also adds to int. I can allocate 495 stat points at 100 but my current items give me 960. Overall 1/4 of my stat points are end and 3/4 of my stat points are in int.

I think it's humorous that Condor not only thinks he's cool for having a tired, boring, rehashed character build, but thinks he's cool for posting on YouTube about it (or anything else for that matter).

Personally, I go for builds that are unique and fun. I couldn't give a wit's end about taking things down fast -- to be honest, this isn't the most challenging game in the history of mankind; even a monkey pushing a couple of buttons can not only survive but thrive with ease. As such, I usually switch my build around as I go, mixing it up and just having fun blasting the hell out of everything in my wake.

So what's the point of my post? Basically this: Build your character however you want. Pick the skills and spells you find the most fun. Wear the armor you think looks the coolest... and have at it. You'll do just fine.

Zero, putting Int for your stats is good, since you can get End jewelry and equips to give you hp. Gym freak and average bmi are pretty helpful too, if you need more life.

If an armor you get has more than -1% movement speed curse, than probably shouldn't use it, since its good to have better movement speed just in case you need to run away.

Also, if an armor you see has really good bonuses for your attack or resistances, but the one you have has more armor on it; then you should probably use the one with better magical stats. You could wear one really good armor piece with more defense, and then just use offensive stated ones for the rest.

What I usually do for L and R mouse buttons, is put an Aoe skill on one, and then the other your best single damaging skill for any bosses. Shadow lighting is a great skill, lots of people use it, mages, fighters, or rangers. Fire ring or gaseous blast is great for all those fodder that crowd you.

Well, I hoped that my opinon helped a little, have fun killing.

I'm not sure what the big deal about soloing chieftain at 21 and frumps at 34 is.....Don't most people do that at those levels?

I think I did it at 19 and 31 solo (on normal). I was surprised, but with enough flame damage and enough potions, and a break in between the waves, it didn't seem all that hard.

I could not handle Vergrim or Widowmaker solo. The continuous outpouring of fodder made it too difficult.

I recently did Rotgut @ 35 on normal and used about 20 health potions. The loot was decent, especially in coins.

Embercore is tough for me at the moment cause my ice resistance is zero.
