My take on mages, aoe, and the class as a whole

hi guys, im kinda new to the game and not a high lvl yet, but i have previous game exp with games like wow and d2x were i had many high lvl toons. just wanted to offer my take on the mage class (im currently lvl 20). i quit my fighter at lvl 7 and started a mage, immediatly i noticed how this class excelles at killing multiple targets (aoe). i was killing multiple targets on my mage in the same time it took me to kill 1 target on my fighter, and the same time it took my brothers ranger. honestly after the "nerf" to aoe i notice little to no difference to how ez it seems to lay out a whole grp of mobs when i go threw dungeons with friends that are ne class most of the time it seems like they just stand around while i kill stuff, ocasionally they get a swing or a shot off...i have had ppl comment many times about it i think the "nerf" is really more of a fix...i think there is a big dif btween a nerf and a fix or balanceing a class. nerfing changes a class or game dynamic so drasticlly that it makes that that aspect, skill, or class completely useless or work in a completely different way...a class fix or balance makes the class function as intended, makeing skills and or game dynamics function in a fair way. aoe still works, its still viable...however i doubt it was ever intended to be viable for running threw and "training' the entire instance behind u and clearing the whole place in 1 fel swoop. In ne case i really enjoy playing a mage, i think the aoe abilities and the dmg output is countered by us being squishy...i did notice that my build (skills i use and gear i use) are not as effective against boss's after grping with a few ppl they have commented about thier intrest in making a mage. imo a mage is a great class to play, they are aoe, dmg output from range....they are not sponges for dmg, masters at surviving, or prone to stun and generally annoy thier opponents (at least not as well as a fighter or ranger) i know i have alot to learn and am not a high lvl yet, but so far i have done very well in pvp, had a ton of fun in pve, and am very happy with the class. thx guys, feel free to add ur input about mages, either in agreement or countering my opinions, thx |

I frapsed myself doing two consecutive runs through the crypts today because I wanted to play around in sony vegas and have deleted all my frapsed footage of other games I played so I needed some new ones. Now this gave me a good opportunity to figure out my xp rate. It turns out I get about 16k an hour doing crypt runs. I know I was doing better then that last build. I do my runs picking up almost every good drop and not using a single potion. Its not rare for me to come out of a fight with less then 300 hp. I've actually had all the red in my hp bar gone at the end of a few fights. This is an important thing to note. When I take out my down time for regening and picking up drops and doing runs to the shop I cut enough time off to be making 26k an hour. This is a huge difference. Its nothing like I was getting last build but its still some pretty awesome xp. Last build I was getting around 27k xp an hour hunting the way I do and 33k xp an hour if I ignored drops. Anyways the nerf means nothing. People that are spoiled from last build might complain about xp but I still think getting a level every hour to two hours is nothing to scoff at. |
