8 lvls lost from server crash / backups needed

I started a new character yesturday and after several hours of slammin quests, clearing dungeons, and grinding for $ to train the server crashed. I couldnt log on to any other server until that one (#2 members only) came back after about 2 mins, but when I reconnected my lvl 8 was back to lvl 1!  I know in WoW they have a way of continuously saving character info instead of only saving when u log out. I assume they have 1 or 2 databases that are continually feed stats from all the servers. you could possibly just use excess system resorses/bandwidth or designate a couple % to rotating through the connected players, backing up their info. I realize it's a fairly major project to patch this in, but I'm sure it will help keep your customers happy. Thanks |

The server should save you when you level up as well as after every 15 minutes of gameplay. Sounds like something may be amiss. We'll check it out. We have a hotfix for the server crash in the works now. steve |

Better be a quick hotfix! 2 Minutes ago was the second time that it's happened to me; Once on members server at midnight, and just 2 minutes ago on free server today. Thx for reply. Thats more info then i got from 2 game support inqueries.  Was hoping to get my 8 lvls reinstated with gear and trianing.  Maybe the problem is that its crashing while writing the file to the HD, hence killing the save file. How bout making it alternate save files? Edited by ElCoHaulic70 (08/29/07 10:17 PM) |

There is no save file on your hard drive. Last I checked everytime you log in and out it does a manual save of your char. I think the problem is fixed for now, but if they ever have another memory leak problem or servers are crashing often just try restarting in and out every little while and your char will be saved. |

its obviiously not saving on my hard drive cause that would be a major set up for hackers. Its the server that crashed and would lose a file if it were being witten to its drive.ya i know i can log in and out to save, but i didnt want to take the chance of losing the cleared dungeons i was questing in and turning in quests to the npc's on the first couple lvls. -------------------- Solo Insane Everything! How bout having the program write the same file consecutively in 2 separate folders with a time or sequence attached. If the server crashes and there are 2 different files, then the newest one should be good. Hope my noob idea helps and gl with the fix. |
