Misleading patch note - bolts much SLOWER?!?
#33811 - 08/29/07 12:48 PM

From the patch notes:
Quote:

Most bolt skills have been significantly increased in speed. Also, an issue with bolts not always hitting moving targets has been fixed.

I took this to mean that bolts like Poison Shot would be faster - meaning less weapon cooldown. But it looks like it is the opposite - weapon cooldowns have increased substantially - 80% or more, from .5 to .9 for Poison shot for example, 1.5 to 2.6 for Noxious Shot.

This is a decrease in speed and so a nerf for poison rangers in particular.

Am I right or is something else happening that I don't know, being a noob? If that's right was this a nerf for PvP (something I'll never do)?

Arrows and ranged skills are not bolts. The patch notes are talking about fire, ice, and shadow bolt skills.

I wondered about that - why then did my weapon cooldowns almost double after the patch for those skills? Was it because I leveled past something, or switched to a shotgun as opposed to a crossbow?

Also, just to be picky - why would Poison Shot be treated any differently than Fire Bolt given that anyone can take any skill they want?

Of course, but I've changed weapons many many times and never noticed the weapon cooldown periods every varying until yesterday after the patch. I switched to shotgun earlier in the week and I can't swear I looked at the cooldown times then, but I thought they didn't change.

With the normal xbows I had a non-skill enhanced recharge time of .61 or so. With the Trigger bonus my shotgun time is .81.

So is it true that weapon type/speed (unenhanced by skills) is part of the calculation for weaspon cooldown for the shot skills?

Most shotguns are very slow. If you equip the 2 back to back and take a look at the attack speed in your character sheet. This attack speed is what most weapon attack skills are based on. For a slower weapon the cool down is much longer. The multiple of the attack speed will vary by skill.

Thanks - just my noobiness showing then. It makes much more sense that weapon cooldown is tied to weapon speed - I simply hadn't had two weapons where the speed difference was that noticable.
