Need Help Beating Abadon and his goons?
vB post 66573 - 08/26/07 05:14 PM

So this is for the players who need help defeating abadon in the Embecore dugeon.

Best to do it in a group if u are under the lvl recomendation

When going to attack get a lot of Potions(Mana or Heath)

Always attack the women guard of Abadon becuase she is the one who heal Abadon and his 2 other men guards.

All three of his guards spawn a couple of times so be sure to keep attacking them.

When u get done killing them u are now ready to attack Abadon.
Pretty much straight forward is to attack him and keep using spells and mele attacks, just watch out for his move where he raises his hands over his head and flame like balls come from the sky be sure to spam your potions unless you will die very quick.

Then Collect ur PHat Lootz!!

Not sure if it's such a good idea to attack the guards, since they respawn and don't do much damage compared to Abaddon. Abaddon is fire-oriented so make sure you have your Fire Resistance up! (Fire ward, Fire Resist Buff, Equipment) And remember, he's immune to fire spells! (Has been known to resist shadow too)

A helpful tip is to keep knockdown skills in your bar. When he goes to do his fire rain, try as best as you can to use these skills to knock him down. This will knock him down and stop his rain attack.

Another sidenote; Monster Bait helps in the beginning. In the beginning he amost always does his fire rain attack. If you throw the bait to him, he'll attack it with the fire rain, and once it's dead (a second or two), he will stop and do his normal fire attacks. This is much better than sitting in his wrath for 10 seconds every beginning wasting all your potions! Hope this helps, and happy running!

No his guards do not keep spawning the only spawn a couple of times if u go straight for abadon he will just get healed by the women... and once you kill the guards about 3 times they are down but u should kill the women (healer) 3 times just go for abadon

Heh, I have enough DPS to beat Abaddon on Extreme even with the healer doing her thing. Tho I must admit, when my Fire Resistence runs out, I go thru potions like they're going out of style.

Really and truthfully if you can't kill Abbie it's better to kill off the twins first then the girl. She does minimal damage to you compared to the twins and Abbie and she also concetrates on healing Abbie not the twins. Abbie is the one that respawns the 3 of them. Take 1 twin down, before he re-spawns start on the second, then switch should only have to kill them 2 times each that way... if you just kill one til he doesn't re-spawn i think you have to kill them 3 times each. Once the twins are gone you only have to kill the girl once, then kill Abbie.
Best advise is to make sure you're within the lvl cap, then have your fire resists, fire buff, and gear with +fire resist on it. I've actually found that weapons with a +ice damage work well against him and ice bolt will slow him down.
I can run Abbie on insane but have found no use for it. the cost vs re-coup is just not high enough.

I guess I have never messed with his minions, usually don't even kill them b/c they never drop anything when I do. As both a fighter and ranger I do plenty of DPS to overcome the healer. On insane it can take over 60 seconds but usually it is a tight race. I usually do run on insane, when I got my 4 rainbows in 6 runs one day it convinced me to always run bosses on insane. It does cost more in pots but I always seem to come out making gold faster on insane.

The main reason for going straight for Abby is the fire damage he does. Unless you have a full set of +fire resistance gear the majority of your resistance is going to come from the self buff which only lasts for 60 seconds. If you mess around with his minions killing them 2-3 times a piece that is going to take you over a minute and then Abby is going to pick you apart with his shower. Knockdown does help a lot with his shower but there is no guarantee you will knock him down.

Yea, never even bothered with the goons. She has a fixed % chance to heal either Aba or his 2 guards (depending on where she is standing, and whether the guards are at 100% hp or not). I can normally go through Abaddon 4 times on insane, just under 190 seconds (tff, with 5-10 secs remaining). Out of the 4 encounters in 190 seconds, she heals him maybe..once, or twice total, and some times never at all.

i always hit one of the guards one or two times at the very beginning of the fight. so i have nearly the guarantee that she gives her first heal(s) to this guard!

AS a ranger, I generally take out Abby in 45 seconds on Extreme, ~60 on Insane:

* I have both Fire Ward and pop Fire Resist and Trigger Finger Frenzy as soon as I enter battle.
* I ignore all minions and concentrate on Abby. If you don't, Fire Resist will drop and you're screwed.

FYI, unless this changed in one of the last builds, the minions don't respawn. Abby and his healer each have resurrection powers and they rez the minions.

I hate those things! It's probably a good thing my parrots are in the other room because I swear a lot when I have to deal with Abby and they already know a few words too many!

I would definitely agree, after killing Abby for many moons now, that killing his minions is a waste of time and energy; the healer will come back, so you'll only waste time focusing on them and therefore, use more pots. Like others have said, make sure you use fire resist and fire ward; putting on some fire resist gear will help too. If you're a ranger, trigger finger frenzy is a must. Retribution should also be on your tool bar. If you're a Ranger I recommend putting Trigger Happy on the left (firing button) and use acidic blight as well. Lately, I've taken to the strategy of not hitting fire resist right before I enter the battle, but waiting about 10 seconds or so into the fight. To round out my skill bar I usually use gym freak, the gnome, gaseous blast, and either poison shot or shiver shot on right click. Sometimes I rotate righteous stomp into the mix, this may or may not knock over Abby's minions, but unfortunately we can no longer knock him over. As a side note, going into battle with the right amount of endurance (HP) will make a difference as well, so if at first what you use doesn't work, you can always adjust by respec'ing.

I never run Abaddon on my own, but when I go with a party, I try to use monster bait to seperate the healer from the rest of the pack. The healer will maintain a safe distance so it's fairly easy to set a bait beside her, or directly under her so she would run away. It saves quite a lot of time, and most runs, the healer doesn't even get the chance to heal him.

Here's a a few tips if you're in a party:

1. If you're ranged, try to just get in front of him so you wouldn't waste time hitting his helpers. If you're a mage this works really well, because I can guarantee you can tank him because you have bsol.

2. Like others have said before, fire resist is key.

3. Use ice weapons and spells. For mage, Ice Shards do the most damage. Ice Bolt slows him down, but deals less damage.

4. If you're a ranger, you could die pretty easily once the fire resist is gone, so most of em stay back to avoid taking the hims from Abby and his minions. Try to get beside the healer often so she'd run away. Use yourself as the "bait" for the healer so she'll concentrate on you, and not Abby.

I guess that's all I can tell, because I don't really farm him that much.

Please note - the Abaddon fight changed significantly between my last post and the post from smidgysmom. Here are the current fight mechanics:

  • Abaddon hits HARD and has a huge knock-back
  • After a while, Abaddon will cast a meteor storm attack
  • Abaddon will rez his minions twice
  • Abaddon's healer will rez minions
  • Abaddon's guards can stun/interrupt you and they hit pretty hard
There are a variety of tactics, but this is what works for me

JazzHands - as an int mage (all three mage passives) with yellow/purple gear (some of which had end bonuses), soloed Abaddon several times at ~level 42
  1. Made sure I had as much ice gear as possible
  2. Slotted Ice Shards, Fire Ward, Thickheadedness and BSoL
  3. Cast BSoL before approach, then cast Thickheadedness during approach (can be cast during running)
  4. Attacked Abby only, ignoring his minions - key to survival is popping pots and doing massive DPS. Get in close to Abby and start firing - stick to him! Chilling touch and unnerving shout can help, if you can spare the slots!
UlrichWolfsbane - level 100 ranger (I change up skills and gear frequently, but haven't found anything that doesn't work, really)
  1. DPS is the key factor - for the current build, I can typically kill Abby in ~ 12 seconds on Normal difficulty, well before he ever casts his meteor storm. As such, fire resist isnt' really necessary, but I have the wards slotted because I could spare a slot.
  2. My normal strategy is to cast Thickheadedness, Retribution and Toxic Talent while approaching (all three can be cast on the run). Retribution stacks with my gear-based reflects and Toxic Talent improves my gear-based poison damage.
  3. Attack Abby only, ignoring his minions - since I'm doing so much DPS, it doesn't really matter whether or not his healer is healing him.
If you don't have enough DPS to outdamage Abby's healer, then a good strategy is to "split the pull". Players do this by:
  1. Running in to aggro the mobs
  2. Pulling the mobs all the way back to the entrance and casting monster bait
  3. Running all the way in behind the pillar to the left of the portcullis (gate)
  4. Killing what comes by itself (hopefully Abby, minus his minions)
This strategy takes practice and takes longer, but can be pretty effective. Splitting pulls, in general, is a type of strategy common to many MMOs.
