Disconnect and Not Responding
#32945 - 08/22/07 02:47 AM

Hello
Let me first start by saying that i love DR. I just purchased a 3 month membership also
However for the past 2-3 days I am getting disconnected from the server( I am usually in world 1) and the program stops responding
Any ideas, suggestions or solutions to stop that?

Thanks

Have you noticed anything else odd with your internet connection (with either other programs or websites)? Double check your firewall permissions and make sure that DR has permission to access the internet. Also check to see if you have gotten AV/Spyware updates since you last connected and then try shutting down the AV/Spyware programs (just to test) and see if the game will run.

have you updated your router's firmware? Have you reset your cable modem?

What anti-virus are you running and when exactly did this problem start?

Hmmmm... being as you say it started when you got your new system I would say that it is within your new system where the problem lies.

So, things to try...

1) disable firewall to see if problem persists. If not, see if there is a way to open up ports within Avast or all of DR. Having never used Avast I can't say what its capabilities are. If it is Avast then it is possible that some routine is running that Avast doesn't like and therefore shuts down the network to that program.

After that... hell... not really sure what to try next. Seems like it is just something in your system. Do you have any timeout functions going on network wise? Something that my disconnect the network due to inactivity? It's possible that the network is disconnecting thinking that the packets coming through for DR are junk and not adding that activity to the timer. Thus disconnecting. A test for that would be to run an email client (if you use one) that automatically checks the email server every couple minutes. That activity might be enough to hold the connection open. I used that trick when I was on dial-up. Had Yahoo as my homepage and had it refresh every 15 minutes. Doing so caused the provider to see activity and then didn't disconnect me.
