Chunk #1: PvP (pwnage!)
#32848 - 08/21/07 03:11 PM

Please place all PvP feedback in this thread.

PLEASE TEST BEFORE YOU POST!

PTS Patch Notes:

PvP Worlds

We have added PvP worlds to the game. These worlds are clearly marked on the world selection screen. There are several differences with PvP worlds that you need to be aware of:

Balance Changes

Level difference does not modify hit rate, critical hit chance or resistances during PvP battles.

Knockdown effects don’t work against players during PvP battles. They are replaced with a knockback and five second movement rate debuff.

Players under the effect of fear gain fear immunity for five times the duration of the fear effect once it wears off. This fear immunity is called “Bravery” and it will last through death.

Melee critical hit chance is reduced by 50% during PvP.

Ranged critical hit chance is reduced by 66% during PvP.

Magic damage resistance is reduced by 75% during PvP.

Stun resistance is reduced by 66% during PvP.

Damage reflection is reduced by 80% during PvP battles.

Each player in a PvP battle has their health increased by 100%.

You cannot use potions during PvP battles.

Holy Roller now has a 2 second immobilization period added to it. So, once you hit your target, they won’t be able to move for at least 2 seconds. They can still attack and use skills, however.

You cannot use “/stuck” during PvP battles.

No PvE Dungeons

PvP Worlds do not provide access to PvE (i.e. monster killing) dungeons. You can only enter into PvP matches or practice areas on a PvP World.

Townston is Pwnston

The bright and cheery Townston that you know and love has been replaced with a darker PvP form called Pwnston. Pwnston provides bank access, skill trainers and vendors as well as two PvP access points.

Practice Matches

You can find a new zone teleporter in Pwnston where group practice PvP matches can take place. These un-scored matches are not timed and allow you and your group to fight each other for fun. Simply run into the practice dungeon to begin fighting.

Respawning after death in the practice match will place you at a random spawn point in the practice dungeon. You also get full health and mana.

Group vs. Group Deathmatch

Clicking on the Pwnston L33tinent will present you with the ability to “Enter the Queue!” for group vs. group deathmatch sessions. Only the group leader can enter the queue. A single player is also a “group” for this match type.

Chat Restrictions

You cannot use world chat or zone chat during a deathmatch session.

Grouping Restrictions

You cannot invite other players to your group while in a deathmatch session. You also cannot use the “goto” feature during PvP. Finally, you cannot remove a player from your group during PvP.

Team Assignments

When a suitable match is found, your group will be automatically teleported to the arena to begin the battle. Each group is assigned to either the Red Team or the Blue Team. You will know which team you are on by the color of the swirling indicator beneath your character’s feet.

Setup

The battle begins with a 30 second setup period. During the setup period, all cool-downs are automatically reset and your health and mana refill continuously. Use this time to arrange your skills and buff up for the coming battle. You will also notice that you are blocked from entering the main arena by a magical gate.

Battle!

After the setup period, the battle begins and the magical gate that blocks your way is opened. Run out and start pwning! The battle lasts 7 minutes.

Scoring

For each kill that your team achieves you will get points. The number of points you get depends on the strength of the opponent killed. Click on the “Show PvP Score” button at the lower-right corner of the screen at any time to see the current score for each group. The score display will be automatically displayed at the end of the match.

Winning

The team with the highest score at the end of the match wins. Players that are not in the zone when the win is tallied will not be credited with a win. You can see how many PvP wins you have on your character sheet. You can also see how many PvP wins another player has by looking at their tooltip.

Don’t Be a Yellow Belly!

If you leave an active deathmatch session for any reason, you will be marked as a “Yellow Belly” for 7 minutes. “Yellow Belly” players have all of their attributes reduced by 90%, show as yellow to other players and are reduced in size by 30%. This applies to disconnects as well as deliberately leaving a match.

Once you leave a match, you may not re-enter it.

Leaving the Battle

You can leave the battle at any time by right-clicking on your name and choosing the appropriate option. While combat is active, you can only “Surrender”. Surrendering will teleport you back to Pwnston and give you the “Yellow Belly” modifier. Once the battle is over you can choose the “Exit PvP Match” to leave at any time. You can also choose “Leave Battle” on the PvP Score window after the match is completed.

Forfeit!

If all the players on a team leave the match, they will forfeit the match. Forfeiting a match will reduce that team’s score by 50% before deciding which team wins. If the forfeiting team wins the match, that’s a terrible ego blow to the losers… but the forfeiting team still does not receive credit for the win.

You can set the camera angle in such a way as to beable to see a large portion of the dungeon over the walls. Might want to restrict that opeion in PvP

It could use some more adjustments on the groups. (justifing) For example: Level 82 non-member vs Level 96 member is really unfair.

When someone dies, it would be great if the death of someone's name was printed somewhere in the screen.

Cheers!

Preferably with various hillarious and humiliating death messages.

i also found that the teams could definiently use evening up. although two level 20's equal a level 40 this is extremely tempermental. Depending on the lvl 40 char he will either own the 20s no chance or get owned.

Me and a friend entered a match and were put against a lvl 67, he coult 1 hit my character and 3 hit my partners, almost no competition, we wore him down and eventually killed him a couple times but the end game score was 20-6 ( 20 being him)

my request is just dont allow that please make it so it is always 2v2, 3v3,1v1 etc no 2v1 or 3v2

You left something out. Each kill you got on the level 67 was worth more points than your own individual deaths. I would estimate that the score was closer than "20-6", probably more like 4500 to 7500.

I like that idea of these matches. Without them wait times will be longer, and we will have less variety. A random guy and I grouped and easily defeated a decent level 66(we were both in our twenties). You just have to use some strategy.

Possible Practice Bug.

If someone is in a practice arena and I join it (we were within 3 levels of each other). Both of us cannot see each other. It's like a separate instance was created for each practice person.

Only way I was able to join them was to do the Find Group option and then Go To their location. When that happened I spawned right next to that person and then we could fight.

Secondly on PVP dungeons (at least with 1 on 1). It's easy for the winner to camp out near the gate/spawn area of the enemy and hit them as they come out. Not sure if that was intentional or not.

It's not a bug - you have to be grouped to be in a practice match with each other.

For gits and shiggles, I entered pvp with my level 31 non-member ranger. I was paired up against a level 28 member fighter who dual wielded rainbows. Result = pwned, but not necessarily due to the member status. Here are some key points I found during our battle:

* Holy Roller - I think the speed charge needs to be removed from it during pvp. Let it still knockback/stun, but remove the charge. It's almost impossible to get away from. Shadow Word Smackdown can be resisted, Putrid Penetration has to hit AND can be resisted (I think).

* The fighter had an all end build - when I did hit, I did a ton of damage in terms of numbers, but her health barely dipped. How frustrating...

* Monster Bait - why enable a skill on the slot if it doesn't do anything? Personally, I think the skill would rock in pvp! Have it draw aggro from the opposing team until it's dead...

* Rangers need to be able to move while firing. When dueling a fighter, it's basically stand and shoot until they get too close and hope that you did enough damage. Even after trying to run when she got close, I was screwed due to her using Holy Roller (see above). I had her down to nothing for what would have been to more kills (making a grand total of three) but just couldn't go toe-to-toe. 3 - 7 would have been a little more comforting than 1 - 9 :P

Thoughts?

fear shot is kind of much less powerful isnt it now with bravers and reduced timiny etc?

i like the pvp tho gj

and about my 2v1 post no the score really was 20-6, and if they did count for more thne 1 it wasnt noticable, although it may coutn 2 points cause i dont tihkn we kiled him 6 times... lol

but it really was that stacked.

Just to clarify, the kill count is not the score. Each player has an associated score awarded to the other team when they die (these are the numbers we use to determine balance). When you or your team mate killed the other guy, you got more points added to your score than the points he got for killing you or your team mate. Now, 20-6 is still bad enough that it won't matter, but it was probably a closer score than that indicates.

And like Stephen said, there was a bug or two with the matchmaking calculations, so that matches were being made where one side or the other had too much of an advantage. When the fix hits PTS, the matches should be a lot more challenging without being ridiculously overwhelming (or underwhelming, depending on which side you're on).
