First of all, don't make assumptions about a feature that's not even available for testing. It's pointless.

Secondly, Stephen has stated that the PvP system will calculate your max power level--regardless of gear or slotted skills--in order match you with other players.

Third, rangers rock! Even my level 31ish non-member ranger does a ton of damage. I have decent HP, great dps and excellent survivability when running dungeons (bosses are a different matter). Here's a pic of my current build:

DeadeyeDick's current build...

As you can see, I've slotted only AGI (except for a few INT points when I wasn't paying attention) and use gear for END. I've also slotted Gym Freak for extra HP. I make judicious use of resists and Monster Bait and never die unless I'm not paying attention. I also use Putrid Penetration against "stun" mobs like Hulks. This is obviously a PvE build, but it works very well for me.

One of the things I've done is to maximize the type of damage I do. For example, all of my gear bonuses are for piercing or ranged damage (my bow is the exception, actually). Since I don't really use poison attacks (PP is for the knockdown), I don't bother with +poison dps and I definitely don't bother with +slashing dps. By combining all of the bonuses, I do quite a bit of extra damage. If I were using a shotgun, I'd use all +slashing/ranged gear. If I were a heavy poison ranger with decent INT, I'd use all +poison gear.

Don't worry, rangers are good damage dealers for single monsters.

the only problem with a nonmember ranger though is I don't think they have the +crit modifier ... or the +speed modifier ... so I can understand where the OP is coming from.

Crit is nerfed in pvp anyway, so the only thing you'll miss is +% dmg, but that apply to all classes.

Rangers are very good in PVE having the highest single target DPS. Your can form your opinion as your play but not always the best to throw it out with no experience to back it up.

im sorry to dissapoint you, i cant say i have done a lot of testing on this, but my experiences the ranger by himself will get owned in pvp, playing a tank all it takes is holy roller and righteous stopm and some swings and unless the ranger has a lot of hp/armor they r down. however rangers own mages due to their range and mages low hp.

as for nonmember the best i can say is it depends althouhg i have to agree, member rangers will definently have a advantage although that cant be helped really. as a ranger ( lvl 100's idk if this applies to you) but the low and mid lvl rangers 1v1 might not be your best bet, id see if you can get a tank with you then you should be fine.

my experiences, opinions and suggestions hope they help

Wrong. Rangers also have a ranged fear which is = holy roller. It is a matter of who gets the first kill, and gets to keep his good buffs on.

Apparently, you missed this line:

but not necessarily due to the member status

The person I dueled just had a better PvP build.

LMAO....when the PTS first came out I, a lvl 41 ranger got owned the first time I tried it....in fact I probably went about 0-5 to start out....then I rechecked the skills and changed a bunch of stats and guess what...me and another lvl 41 repeatedly beat a lvl 100....then I did some practice with a warrior lvl 43....owned them too....warriors have some very nice pvp skillz....but rangers have....RANGE stomps and holy roller don't help if they can't get to you...it's all in how you play....once you learn how to KITE you'll hardly ever lose to a warrior...unless the warrior can slow you down and if you stay away from him he can't....another thing...as a ranger you don't have to use simply ranger skillz....I learned ice bolt lvl 1 just so I can slow people down....slow them down...then fear them...then own them...it's that simple....a strategic withdrawl is not a retreat and should not be looked upon as such....the only down side I see is that a warrior 10 lvls or so higher can take forever to kill as you have to run then shoot then run and shoot....but it's not that hard really
