Black flashing screen..
#32659 - 08/19/07 03:37 PM |
Hello, Installed the game today, worked like a charm, wanted to log in a bit later, the play NC launcher starts, I click play (no update necessary of course) I first get a black screen with the Dungeon Runners mouse pointer, then the screen just starts flashing black hysterically. I rebooted, quit the launcher, still the same problem? My boyfriend has this too on another machine, any suggestions? |

Thats weird. Do you guys have all the updated drivers (for your vid card) and DirectX versions? Also, what kind of card are you using? -------------------- BuffDaddy - 100 Ranger Your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as Gods, knowing good and evil |

I wonder if this is the graphics card auto-detect that runs when the game first starts... You could try starting the game in windowed mode and see if this resolves the problem: 1. Exit Dungeon Runners. 2. Use notepad to open "User.cfg" from the config folder where you installed the game. 2. Look for the line that says "Fullscreen = true" and change it to "Fullscreen = false". 3. Restart Dungeon Runners. Also, while you're in that "User.cfg" file, could you note the true/false value for "Benchmarked ="? That might tell me something useful. In any case, I'll get the engineer responsible for that feature to have a look. steve |

OS is Windows Vista, both PC's are using it (One home edition and the other is what's it called again, a heavier version, but I don't think the difference really matters), then again both PC's have a Gforce 8800 GT card in it. I have a Acer AL2216W LCD screen (21ยจ), my boyfriend uses a Dell LCD screen, can't exactly tell you the model of his monitor. I'm using DX 10, I don't think the graphics version driver matters as we've tried an older aswell as newest version (nvidia driver from the site) and they both gave the problem. The first time I installed the game and wanted to change the graphics option, I noticed it seemed to autodetect (since my card is fairly OK you could say so the settings was by default set quite high, which most games do not automatically do) and when it first crashed I thought it was because I changed the graphics options. If this might be usefull though, I didn't change them the second time (after reinstalling the game) and it still crashed after a second restart (it gives the same problem when I alt + tab for some reason) Reinstalling ALWAYS solves the problem, then it works perfectly. (not very practical though..) I had the impression it's related to this as after each reinstall in my opinion, it would detect settings again so then it would work, but then it seems a bit strange not more people are having that problem. Benchmarked = true Problem does not appear with "Fullscreen = false", not when alt + tabbing either if that might be of any help. I'm sorry, I don't know anything about coding to be honest so wouldn't be able to say if that's good or bad. The user file looks like this (I checked this right after reinstallation and again after it crashed, nothing changed since I did not modify a single option, it used the autodetect settings, modified the username below though) [Display] AntiAlias = 8 Benchmarked = true FoliageAmount = 10 Fullscreen = true FullscreenHeight = 1050 FullscreenWidth = 1680 WindowedHeight = 600 WindowedWidth = 800 WindowedX = 0 WindowedY = 0 [General] XRayVision = true [Login] Username = myusername Thanks for the help so far! Have you tried to run it in windowed mode? Reason I say this is it sounds like it is hitting a refresh rate that is too high for the LCD to display. GW ![]() |

It works in windowed mode. If it's related to the refresh rate, that does not explain why the game works perfectly for like 5 hours and stops working when I shut it down (whether I reboot or not, doesn't matter) or alt + tab and I need to reinstall it though, basically I can play it once without any problems for as long as I like.. According to the specs listed on the monitor it looks like the autodetect feature correctly set up your machine. Nice computer by the way : ), One thing you might try before the next build is deleting your user.cfg, ( or deleting the full screen res settings and the benchmar true flag ). This will simulate a clean install. Let me know if doing so starts the game correctly as it may shed some light on this. Could you allso try lowering the antialias setting to 0? |

I have the same issue in one of my computers friend. The game installs, and when you clic on the icon a black screen appears and just show the pointer. I tried everything on this post, nothing works, the computer is kinda new, good specs, higher than mine and I play without problem. Some new solution? |

Actually it doesn't load at all, I tried re-installing, installing patchs, everything, but nothing seems to work. I don't have an USER.CFG 'cause the game never runs in the computer, never. So I need an USER.CFG file? amd semprom (tm) processor 2800+ / 1.6g de ram <-- main computer specs, actually I run DR in computers with less specs, have an onboard videocard but doesn't matter, all my computers doesn't have quality-cards. So what do you recommend? |

Copy the default.cfg file and rename the copy user.cfg. Then, set Fullscreen = false. This will set windowed mode. Also, add the pipeline = vfpf under the [Display] section. |

Well your video card does matter. It has to support d3d 7.0 at the very least. Some integrated cards don't or are so slow the game would be completely unplayable. Could you please provide me with the type of video cards you are using? |
