An alternative to grinding?
#32184 - 08/14/07 09:54 AM

First off, let me preface this by saying I really enjoy DR, and the community with which I'm gaming.

BUT - this constant grind with little to no change is slowly whittling away my will to continue with this game.

At the moment, Im holding out for the PvP patch in hopes it will give me some enjoyment.

I've spent just under 4 days and am at lvl 38. I have no problem slaughtering everything I see on normal -> insane. I can solo Rotgut and manage my way through several levels of HDoL. But it always comes back to plain boredom.

And I think some of this could be helped with adjustments to quests. Give me a real reward for completing them. KC's are the best you get and theyre not really even that hard to find, or useful when you do.

Make the game more dynamic and challenging, I'd much rather fight 1-3 enemies at a time in a difficult fight for massive xp, then hundreds after hundreds for 5-20xp a pop.

What can I say, Im rambling...

I found that I am bored at Embercore. Even though the King Coins offer little true value, I find the quests enjoyable. It gives the grind some purpose.

I was just thinking this morning about how a purple or rainbow for KC trading system would be welcome. I would love to spend say 2 KC per 5 levels of item if I know what I am going to get (20 KC for a level 46-50 piece of armour or weapon). This could be through Sam or player to player.

I have become tired of the consistent boredome of running the crypts again and again simply to level myself. At level 70, I actually wonder if I'll make it to 100. I am keeping at it so I can see the level 75 dungeon, as well as what new names they'll come up with for stuff.

How about giving the kcs specifics? Have them be specifically for the warrior trader, or the mage trader, or jewellery, or whatever. And have some yellow kcs, that would give yellow items, purple kcs, that give purple items, and even rb kcs, to give rb items.

Just a thought.

Things like Scitar Hero help a bit. Side games, or missions not based on killing over and over and over and over and over and over and...you get the point...Even the "hunt down this guy" missions were pointless as Im going to kill that critter anyway.

I dunno, it's obviously the whole point of the game, so I don't see it changing anytime soon.

The grind is fine, but we ( I ) do need more 'side stuff' to do, in my opinion. Maybe even a level cap increase a few months down the road? 120, then 150 after a little while -- including new dungeons and whatnots. I'm sure thats where we're headed either way.

not trying to flame you or anything, but would increasing the level cap really be wise, i myself am not positive how i feel on that one.

What is the downside in this platform of game to upping the level cap? Since PVP is going to be match based depending on statistics and making new, level-based dungeons is clearly in the plans, I don't see the problem. It gives people something to strive for and it keeps the longetivity of the game alive. If those who are already 100 and maxed out EQ don't get something meaningful to do in the next few months, what will entice them to stay? I am for it, higher levels YAY, stagnation, BOO!

i really agree. i love DR, but i find the quest give direction and are funny, but other then that they are extremely pointless. they only give money and kc, things i dont really need and have WAY more then enough of. i wish quest actually gave u something important that u needed, or maybe xp so i dont have to grind so long to lvl up. Sometimes i wonder the point of keeping track of all the quest and actually doing them.

Quests would definitely be more attractive if they gave XP and or items on occasion.

I think it would be, its not like we are planning on staying at level 40 forever, right? Steve confirmed level cap increase down the road, so it will be interesting to see how that will turn out..seein' as how all our current skills/cooldowns are geared towards L 100. (95% TFF anyone??)
