Beware - spammers for plug-ins, possible scam
#32054 - 08/12/07 01:45 PM |
Earlier this morning a character began spamming /w with advertisements for a "DR auto gold picker" (obviously using a macro). In regards to this, you should be aware of at least two things: 1) Using a third party tool and/or modifying source code to change game functionality is against the EULA. Quote: If you install a plug-in/add-on to DR, you will be banned. 2) Add-ons and/or their websites are notorious for implanting virri, trojans, key loggers and other malware. Don't mess with illicit material and you have a much smaller chance of being a victim. Don't try to be a cheater - cheaters suck... -------------------- ~Ripper Complainers of the World Unite NOT Ripper in game... NOT McGee in game... NOT TheRipper in game... Yep I've saw it for 4 times now, seems to be once in 2 days. Mostly some lvl 1-5 account, I noticed it was 3 times a different account. As Ripper said, BEWARE! 100% Keyloggers, I'm sure of that. I suggest just ignoring him and informing people that do not know about this. -- Edit -- I heard that the devs were busy with coin pickup, some system that puts all stacks together or something, dont quote me, im not sure if Im really correct. -- Edit -- Edited by Legendrunner (08/12/07 02:10 PM) |

Some do yes, I had one, please dont ask me the damage it made. You dont notice it most of the time, If you think you got one I suggest an online virus scan and spybot search and destroy catches some from time to time also. But dont worry, if you got firewall + virus scan it wont come into your computer, once tis in, you wont notice, though ![]() |

a "good" firewall will tell you if something new is trying to initiate outbound traffic on a non-standard port. for example most of em are smart enuf to recognize if something other than a browser is using port 80 (standard web port) or whatever. IMO, antivirii are a waste of money, just like prophylactics imo... if you pay attention to what you do with your computer, you don't need anything more than a solid firewall. If you're unsure if a website or email is safe, then just don't open it. with a good firewall, helk with a barely passable firewall the vast majority of viral activity requires action by you to let it into your machine. the only virus's i have ever had on my machines have been because a family member wasn't as watchful as i. Always use both firewall and a trojan/viri program. You never know when a new security hole in Windows or associated programs appear which allow for hackers to easily breach your computer. When the breach is done, altering a firewall aint that big of a problem (if the security hole was a 'good' one) and then you sit with an infected computer behind your firewall thinking you're safe. Virus scans update frequently and check for these occasions (after the new torjan/hack/virus/whatever is discovered), while firewalls do not. (it is very rare that the above happens, but it DO happen) -------------------- Jinxed - Lvl 100 -------------------- |

yes i guess i forgot to say at the end of my message that the key is that YOU HAVE TO PAY ATTENTION. . . which for me after 25 yrs of computing is second nature. for most of us, paying attention is usually not an option whether it's because of lack of knowledge of what to look for or just not that good at paying attention. in those cases, it's best to pay mcafee or nortons to pay attention for you. -------------------- in every post lies an opportunity for the reader to understand the spirit of what is said. |

Quote: God I hate antivirus programs. Lately with all the enhancements they try to do to better protect your system it seems like they are worse to your computer than a real virus would be. In fact I consider nortons and Mcafees to be worse then most viruses. Half the time I get a computer to fix with one of those two on it, I can fix the problem just by uninstalling it. Right now I am running Kaspersky, and would recommend it to anyone out their without a virus scanner. I happened apon a trojan a few months back and went through about 4 antivirus programs that would either not detect it, or detect but were not able to remove it. Eventually ended up googling it and found that kaspersky was the only one out their at the moment cappable to remove it. I used the trial up and ended up buying a years subscription due to the fact that it didn't eat computer resources up as badly as any of the others I have tried in the last few years. PS I wish kaspersky would pay me for my glowing recommendations I give to its product ![]() |
